BTW the only reason I think Bauhaus are called goth all the time is b/c "Bela Lugosi's Dead" is a complete gothic anthem along with Christian's Deaths "Romeo's Distress"
and last but not least Sisters of Mercys "Temple of Love". I spent many years of long smoke machine nights in NYC clubs. these 3 songs were always played on the main dancefloor at some time of the night. lol
Goth was not a musical genre when Bauhaus first came out, just like Joy Division has NOTHING to do with Emo, although emos like to claim these kind of bands.. Bauhaus did kickstart the genre along with Siouxsie , Virgin Prunes, Sex Gang Children, Sisters Of Mercy, Christian Death, etc. Joy Division, helped to devolop the sound some call "goth" today, even though I put Joy Division in a genre of their own. I just call all the rest"Classic Goth" for arguements sake.
I assume/may have read I can't remember that this song was purely from a newspaper headline, but can anyone tell me why I associate this song with the Alan Class reprint comics? 'Cos it does...
Went to Northampton School of Art with Dave, Danny & Kevin in the 1970`s and used to get the 402 bus from Wellingborough to Northampton County Cricket Club with Pete to go to the Heavy Metal Discos!
A colonel by rank but a medic by profession. Interesting concept of accidental death messageofthemaker has there! Like,' we were bombing Laos but the civilian deaths were accidental' etc.
What, -You lived next door to The US Embassy? Lol.
But seriously, every single time Bauhaus are mentioned, someone has to go & say the 'G' word.... Those palid G%ths were drawn to Bauhaus' flickering strobes like sincerely necromantic moths to the flame / bats to the belfry... I never found out what the band made of their audiences. I wonder?
Actually, there is an interesting story behind this song. it is about an American Colonel that was stationed in Germany, and a German extremist gang - post WWII. Google this song, and see what you come with.
Funny I wanted to hear the song and also find out what it was about. Just in hearing about it I would always imagine a post WWII German terrorist group killing an American Col. in the height of the cold war. I think in the back of my mind I remember one of our Cols actually were murdered with a Explosively Formed Penetrator (very old method for defeating armour). But maybe this is just dilusions from a mind with an Anxiety disorder
Actually, you are not to far from the truth on that. It was a type of German terrorist group that killed a United States colonel. It was more accidental. He got caught in the blast of a bomb.
@Marcuskristicus thats the common error to put labels on bauhaus because on that time it was not a style it was en is just a way they feelt en experience things i believe that peter murphy would not stample his compositions in any of the way so many gotics or werever they are in front a mirror until they reach 30 hahahahah BAUHAUS RULES PSICOLOGY FOR THE MIND!!!!
@Marcuskristicus That name came much latter, and "us" (people who grew up in the time of Bauhaus) didn't call them goth! NO one sounds like Bauhaus, and no one ever will, so how can people labble them!
One of my favorite songs by them, love it. I saw them a few years ago, amazing live. It blew my mind when I looked right into Peter's eyes and Daniel's eyes.
so exxelent!

Look how cool. And while image was most certainly a consideration, the music was never a slave to fashion...or anti-fashion.

The variety of Bauhaus was extraordinary, considering they were stereotyped as a "goth" band.
Explosive post/punk, dark compositions, almost poppy/dance tracks...it sure wasn't all morbid dirges with these guys!

Exactly Marcuskristicus, which is why I hate those damn stereotypes!
