People were on the right track when it came to thinking Dziekanski was Russian. All someone had to do was to call someone from Aeroflot and would probably be able to either understand Polish to some extent or recognize that the language was Polish. Dziekanski could have stayed where he was momentarily while authorities tried to whisk someone or even called someone via cell-phone or regular phone to hear what Dziekanski was trying to say. Taser's seem to me to be too convenient in their usage.

Also, they didn't try to find someone who could talk to him. In an international airport, you've got people that are hired to translate the language of foreign peoples. Why not try to calm him down? it didn't seem like the guy was doing anything but standing there when he got shot with the taser.
It also doesn't seem like they assessed the situation or tried to calm him down in anyway they just walked in and shot him with the taser.
The guy didn't seem as aggressive as he was before in the video he seemed to walk to the counter or whatever that was pretty calmly to me then bam they shot him.

What happened to the copper who was willing to take a few bruises in order to keep the peace? They could have restrained him easily, and with very little risk to themselves. Even more dispicable than the excessive force is the handling of the event by RCMP after the truth was brought to light.

People were on the right track when it came to thinking Dziekanski was Russian. All someone had to do was to call someone from Aeroflot and would probably be able to either understand Polish to some extent or recognize that the language was Polish. Dziekanski could have stayed where he was momentarily while authorities tried to whisk someone or even called someone via cell-phone or regular phone to hear what Dziekanski was trying to say. Taser's seem to me to be too convenient in their usage.

No matter what language you speak or don't speak, you know what the appropriate way to act is when Police approach or try to talk to you. That is the same in all countries. If he hadn't been subdued, and wildly attacked or killed a child, the same people who are complaining about the police now would be saying how negligent the police were for not capturing him. In some cases you just can't win. Ultimately, the Polish guy really called all the shots. Everything depended on his actions.

When a cop says get down it means get down. Don`t argue with him or stand and act like a spoiled 3 year old. Why should the cops have tackled this ass and risk him getting a hold of their gun. He saw that they were prepared to tase him and I am sure they gave him fair warning. The end result is his own fault IMO. The RCMP in Vancouver are some of the most patient officers you will ever deal with.

Did any of you watch the video? You can clearly see the RCMP officer smash the taser at the end. It was a freak accident. Secondly, if you were sitting in that airport, how safe would you feel with looney tunes huffing around and throwing chairs. They followed protocol.

The problem is not that the man died, regardless of how it happened. The problem is that several police officers, who could have easily cuffed him without a taser, used such methods against a man armed with only his fists. (Character limit cutoff)

Also, they didn't try to find someone who could talk to him. In an international airport, you've got people that are hired to translate the language of foreign peoples. Why not try to calm him down? Admittedly, they didn't know what language he spoke, but I'm sure that it wouldn't take very long to find out. He was even calming down before the police tasered him.

The problem here is not the police but rather the tactics the police used. That level of force is clearly excessive, and other methods could have been tried first. Sadly, Canadian boarders are becoming more militarized and heavily patrolled in the post 9/11 world, like borders in almost all the developed countries.
