for me, lenny fucked up and drove into some ditch under a bridge after he got into his car (cause i suck), so i just shot him in the faceeeee :)

This is alot easier if you go up on the other platform (opposing your victim). Then as soon as cutscene is over, just turn around and run - ignore the bodyguard the train will cover you.

Once on the ground you can run up to him faster than he can get into the car parked in the alley. Simply aim at the neck rest of the driverseat and once he gets in... *click*

It doesn't get easier - one shot, one kill, no risk, no police, nobody shooting at you. :)

It depends on what you mean, but I assume you mean "do you have to do the missions to play online"? In that case, the answer is no. You can play online from the first moment you get full player control .

The missions and storyline is a very large part of any GTA game though, and it unlocks vehicles and such, so I would definately recommend doing them.

But it's not a must, no. :)

They would've had kids in GTA 3, but they took them out because of the whole 9/11 thing. There was going to be a mission where you rigged a bomb to a school bus, I think. At least, that's what I was told.
