12/21/2010 eclipse was the first total lunar eclipse to occur on the day of the Northern Winter Solstice (Southern Summer Solstice) since 1638,& only the second in the Common Era

A lunar eclipse occurred from 5:27 to 11:06 UTC on Dec. 21, coinciding with the date of the Dec. solstice.Visible in its entirety as a total lunar eclipse in North &South America, Iceland, Ireland, Britain & northern Scandinavia. It was the first total lunar eclipse in almost 3 yrs, since the Feb. 2008 lunar eclipse.It is the 2nd of 2 lunar eclipses in 2010. The1st -a partial lunar eclipse on 6/26/10 .
