yes kurt did idolise this band and was even too scared to meet francis in his early music days but not too long after that, nirvana were huge and upon meeting him again he is no longer the naive underdog but a legend in his own right. they are both wicked bands love the pixies love nirvana. miss you kurdt..

@jabuhrer1 I love all those bands and I listened to them before listening to Pixies. But as of right now, these guys are my favorite, you can just tell the huge influence they've had on the indie rock genre. Even Issac Brock said that Pixies are one of his greatest influences. So I wouldn't say ripping off, I'd say paying homage to. Haha

I used to love Nirvana, especially their old stuff untill I discovered the Pixies and completely saw where Kurt got his sound. I still love Nirvana but i LOVE THE PIXIES!!!!

@tnable182 first of all, Pixies aren't a one-hit wonder. They never got too popular, but that's another thing. Second, they influenced way more bands than Nirvana - Nirvana included. Third, Nirvana were undoubtedly important but technically inferior to many other bands of their time; I surely wouldn't call them the best thing ever since The Beatles (I don't even consider The Beatles the best thing ever, but that's an opinion). I don't mean to be underground, I just think Pixies were far better.
@tnable182 with that said, I like Nirvana, I'm not a hater, but I think you should first document yourself before saying Pixies are just a one-hit wonder.

In the history of rock music, both were important in their own ways, and since the Pixies came first and Nirvana were admittedly influenced by them, I'd rather say they were a little more relevant. And cult following doesn't really mean a band is worse than other most-famous bands. The Velvet Underground were mostly a cult following when they came out; that means nothing

@tnable182 yeah what I like about Nirvana is that they were humble and never cared about success (and I think success itself is what ruined them). And you're right about the son-father thing, but see it this way: if there's no father you can't have a son. And the Pixies fathered way more bands than you can think of; The loud-quiet-loud dynamics were invented by them. Again, I'm not bashing Nirvana, I just suggest that you listen to more than just one Pixies song, you might find out they're great

The Pixies Rock! They sound the same live as they do on CD....unfortunately, I puked my brains out for part of it.....but I went back to enjoy the rest of the show. It was in a large stadium and we all went ape shit when they played this song!
Where is My Mind is my favourite song of all time, which is why im watching this video. I just thought others might be interested to see the Pixies make a mistake, because they rarely do. Kim Deal can't hit some hight notes anymore, but The Pixies do something to me that I can't or wouldn't want to describe on here. They take me to another level. Don't be so rude, meatwad07.
Also, the main riff is as simple as it is genious :) It's all based around a D chord chape moved up to the 4'th fret. And you only play the two lowest strings :) Play around and you'll find out.
i like the way bands like the Pixies didnt really look that different from the normal. Sometimes it gets annoying when bands try so hard to look different, they lose something with the music.
OK, best American band of the 80's then. Still my favorite though. The Smiths, Sonic Youth, Stone Roses are awesome bands too, there is no way of arguing this.

I used to love Nirvana, especially their old stuff untill I discovered the Pixies and completely saw where Kurt got his sound. I still love Nirvana but i LOVE THE PIXIES!!!!

@tnable182 first of all, Pixies aren't a one-hit wonder. They never got too popular, but that's another thing. Second, they influenced way more bands than Nirvana - Nirvana included. Third, Nirvana were undoubtedly important but technically inferior to many other bands of their time; I surely wouldn't call them the best thing ever since The Beatles (I don't even consider The Beatles the best thing ever, but that's an opinion). I don't mean to be underground, I just think Pixies were far better.

In the history of rock music, both were important in their own ways, and since the Pixies came first and Nirvana were admittedly influenced by them, I'd rather say they were a little more relevant. And cult following doesn't really mean a band is worse than other most-famous bands. The Velvet Underground were mostly a cult following when they came out; that means nothing

@tnable182 yeah what I like about Nirvana is that they were humble and never cared about success (and I think success itself is what ruined them). And you're right about the son-father thing, but see it this way: if there's no father you can't have a son. And the Pixies fathered way more bands than you can think of; The loud-quiet-loud dynamics were invented by them. Again, I'm not bashing Nirvana, I just suggest that you listen to more than just one Pixies song, you might find out they're great

The Pixies Rock! They sound the same live as they do on CD....unfortunately, I puked my brains out for part of it.....but I went back to enjoy the rest of the show. It was in a large stadium and we all went ape shit when they played this song!

Where is My Mind is my favourite song of all time, which is why im watching this video. I just thought others might be interested to see the Pixies make a mistake, because they rarely do. Kim Deal can't hit some hight notes anymore, but The Pixies do something to me that I can't or wouldn't want to describe on here. They take me to another level. Don't be so rude, meatwad07.

Also, the main riff is as simple as it is genious :) It's all based around a D chord chape moved up to the 4'th fret. And you only play the two lowest strings :) Play around and you'll find out.
