Mmm, I'm glad at least a couple of other people hear Kraftwerk in this; I don't really hear it in any of his later stuff, and I've mainly listened to Goodbye and Isolated Place, but I totally hear something like Europa Endless in this track. One of my favs from Trains.

No matter what your mood is, this song can calm you down. Show you the beauty at the core of life. I listened to this song to chill out before a first date. And I listened to it again months later after we broke up. Your troubles melt away, or you see them as something other than troubles. Like trains passing in the distance (such a beautiful image), each of life's experiences is unique, and will inevitably come to an end. Enjoy it all, and let it go. Be yourself, and be beautiful.
Every year, I plan my vacation to see my future wife in Oregon. During one of my many flights, this song came up. The anticipation of seeing her once again and the beauty of this track were both somehow embedded in my head. So every time I listen to this song, it reminds me of that particular trip, with me being up in the air; listening to Knuddelmaus and how I appreciated life even more. Thank you for posting this song and thank you Ulrich for creating such an out of this world track.
This tune, and most of the album, both breaks my heart and puts a huge smile on my face at the same time, which is its secret. How much music do you know that can do that? not much I would`ve thought. I will never grow tired of Passing Trains. It is perfection, the distant pads, the production, th elittle skippy breakbeats. Shear Genius.
found this song after i just graduated from my high school...makes me sad that it's all over. But at the same time this song makes me happy because its beautiful.
This song has too much to give to stand still on a video. Please, someone creative out there give this some justice ! I know some want to share but.....this is not growing anywhere. Sorry.
The past summer me and some friends had a great loosy weekend on a cottage in the german black forest. at night the sky was clear, so we watched the stars for hours, lying in the grass, while listening to "far away trains passing by" (playing at sufficient volume out of the cottage) again and again. this was wonderful.
@fridaymann Oh man, I had the same experience. Me and my girlfriend were out at 4AM trying to catch a meteor shower in the middle of someones field in Warwickshire. Couldn't really make a lot out, but we just sat there, looking up at the night sky, trying to find constellations... listening to this on my little phone. Theres definitely something astral in this song, something invitingly curious and open.
To Sincitytraveler: I listened to the entirety of Ulrich Schnauss' "A Strangely Isolated Place" throughout the Perseid Meteor Shower of the summer of '07. Holds precious memories to me of that summer as well. It is almost a religious experience
to cpcnw: I agree entirely. One of the tracks very influenced by Kraftwerk is "Blumenwiese Neben Autobahn" Very kraftwerk influenced, but arguably one of Schnauss' most inspired tracks.
I made a mix of mostly Ulrich Schnauss stuff and played it for my friends while we were watching meteor showers late one night in Zion National Park...was almost a religious experience!
If you listen to Ralph and Florian - an early Kraftwerk album, Ulrich kind of captures what those guys where doing years ago, but puts a modern mix on it. Makes you think how much of an influence bands like Kraftwerk and Tangerine Dream have been on many people. Ive played 'Far away Trains' to death and still it sounds bloody amazing every time. Love this. Its full of hope.
I can't say M83 and Ulrich Schnauss sound all that much alike, but some of Ulrich's tracks do have some M83-ish soundscape elements. I like the lush soundscapes of both of them. Schnaussy? Ha ha, I guess that beats Ulli.
You mean how is he underrated? Well, I certainly believe that most folks in the states dont know or just dont listen to him or music which is similar to this. Honestly, if I were to go ask a few random people they would be utterly clueless as to whom he is or what music is this.
