yep i agree with ACIDDAYZ i use BLIMP, and a furry over that. those black foam things are crap. i wouldnt have even recomended them. tell everyone to use a blimp. you can get mini blimps as well
What windshield system are you using in the final test? I have a rycote blimp, but I'm looking for a wind sock with longer hair, and the one you are using is perfect.
You should never use a naked mic outdoors - always blimp. For best results in especially difficult situations like recording at the beach I have two suggestions... "double bag" the mic by putting a heavy foam windscreen on it before inserting it into the blimp and don't ignore placement. Wind speed increases the higher off the ground you are. If you "scoop" the mic by putting low to the ground and pointing it up at the talent, you further reduce noise because wind speed is lower "on the deck".
@nigel101 yeah but you want some background noise else it would seem like the voices are addded in when this is added with added background noises / music you sont hear the wind
If you don't have a mic input, use a separate recording device that does have a mic input like a cell phone, or a mp3 recorder. Then when you edit the video use the audio file from the separate recorder. You can actually get excellent results this way.
Connect the mic to a H4N Zoom via a XLR connection.
If you do this method your sound and video will be treated as 2 separate entities in post. So you will need to sync your audio and video together - typically done using a clapper board.

I made a little dead cat for my mic myself... used a bird feeder to give distance between the mic and the fabric. Cost £2 and works beautifully.
It's funny how this video is about recording good audio, yet there's lots of clipping. :\

@theguymjp It's just a result of bad rendering .This video was probably ripped from another website or something.

Which camera are you using? Make and Model. Also are you editing using a NLE system the footage before you show it?

The cheapest one was better than the second!
How can you record boom mic sound when your camera doesn't have a Mic In socket? Any ideas?
