1 of my all time favorite 'comfort food'.Gime this,'BringUp Baby','The Awful Truth'and 'The Woman" and they don't get much better.Ofcourse, all Hep/Tracy films were gems,as were all Cary Grants films...
Thank you for posting this marvelous film. It is one of my favorites and a favorite scene in the film. This is a real kiss. I love Cary Grant. Cary is my favorite actor, but I love Jimmy Stewart as well and Jimmy Stewart was a great kisser. Look at "It's A Wonderful Life."I love real old fashioned romance. I am so sick of seeing films in modern day where they slobber all over each other. The key to a wonderful kiss is the look of longing in their eyes and voice, and very passionate embrace.
Jimmy Stewart serenading a girl with poetry is way better than any make-out fests they have in today's movies. I'll take Jimmy Stewart in a suit and tie over any of the "sex symbols" there are today ;)
besides when he shows up at Dexter's house drunk, i think the entire scene where they're in the garden is the best in the whole movie. when he says "what goes on? you've got tears in your eyes", i positively melt. you don't see this kind of magic in movies anymore.
Man Stewart lines are nothing short of poetry and he always plays a man who puts the most beautiful and talented women into a spell. I have to write these lines down.
Also while I like Cary Grant I really think she should have picked James Stewart's character. Grant had a real cool cut charm to him, but Stewart always made at least one scene something you couldn't turn your eyes from the screen from. Most actors today (especially teen stars) aren't fit to kiss the ground he walks on.
Mike, can you possibly isolate and post the scene where Kate & Jimmy are dancing briefly on the fountain's edge? I that had THE most magnificent and dreamy music... Many thanks.
That scene is just the best. I could watch the movie over and over again, but that is the best part. They're both soooooo beautiful and they have great chemistry. I love Kate and Jimmy!
What great chemistry Hepburn and Stewart had. No wonder he won an Oscar for this role. It isn't easy to play the guy next door AND be immeasurably sexy at the same time. He brought out the humanity in Tracy.
Who doesnt want to be talked to like this?! Its absolutely perfect. Nothing is better than this movie and especially this scene. So many great lines:-)
They just don't kiss like that anymore. See how she drops her head like that? And see how he turns her? They just don't do that anymore its all about who is the biggest Hoover vacuum. Some things were just better like this. Jimmy was a marvel as was Cary. Here is a bit of info. n the 4 movies Cary did with Kate, there was always a love story but never a real kiss!
if you want( (rather irrelevantly to what @OnyxtheDrummer said) to imply that there is more 'social justice' (or whatever ) now, you are wrong. only liberal westerners living in their propaganda bubble can believe that.
there was/is injustice, discrimination, exploitation and plain barbaric murder by west then and now. no change
however as said by others, quality of hollywood movies have deteriorated becoming more vulgar, stupid, and superficial
The incomparable collaboration of Stewart and Hepburn. Did you know that Katherine Hepburn was only actress with the most Academy Awards? And Jimmy Stewart, I adore! ;]
"You're lit from within...you've got hearth fires and ...holocausts."
Good night! Who writes like that anymore? How wonderful! Only the great Jimmy Stewart could pull those line off. The score was great as well. Great film.
This is the 2 minutes that made me fall into a deep and irrational love with the old cinema...<3

I loved their chemistry and I think that Tracy needed Macaulay but only for those few days. She belonged with Dexter. Still, I LOVE their love story.

There was never a real kiss between Kate and Cary? ...I know they kissed at the end of "Holiday" and I think they kissed in "Sylvia Scarlett"
