  • Just caught this band live recently and I agree - this vid does NOT do them justice. But these comments are a hoot! Yale's still the man and the singer is a beeeeeeeyyyyyyyb!

  • ... to write a book or make a film or do much other then hate and scratch their big old bellys... thank god it wuz only a dream!

  • zzzz... oh, honey, I had the oddest dream last night... two old sad fat dudes were sitting in their underwear at their keyboards... banging away... policing utoob... making sure nobody disagreed with them... wouldn't let the rest of us decide who to show props to... so there they were, shooting away at whoever scared them... cuz we only hate what we fear...then they started to go after the rest of us if we disagreed with them... course, they were too busy policing, they didn't have time...

  • OK, we'll make sure to tell Mark O'Connor, who obviously has no ears! You dudes are waaaay too funny!

  • I studied violin with Yale at Mark O'Connor's Fiddle Camp and he's the only klezmer I've seen there in 5 years...I have Yale's recordings, I have his books, and I've seen his films... and I'll be back this summer just for Yale. HE IS A GENIUS. Rubinchik, you don't know squat about his work - or klezmer - but you seem to be on the warpath. TAKE A PILL, get a life and educate yourself.

  • I don't have a personal relationship with Yale Strom, but given your fury, Rubinchik, maybe you do? Please enlighten all of us here who - except for you - actually appreciate Yale's work. Of course, it's a free country and to many, there are greater villains, but as you seem to think he's single-handedly destroying klezmer, Yiddish culture and the globe, please tell us: Where can we get your books, films and CD's? Quick, hurry before more people think highly of his work!

  • awesome my teacher and friend just discovered u tube and u here tov maod

  • The style and structure of klezmer as we know it today is thought to have come largely from 19th century Bessarabia (Romania), where the bulk of today's traditional repertoire was written. It is based on hora, sirba, doina, all of them of Romanian origin.

For more detail see Wikipedia Klezmer.

  • A Romanian Orgin! Then I guess thats why I like it so much!

  • Yale's devoted his life to visiting the last bastions of dying communities and documenting and preserving the musical embers. His broad definition of klezmer includes all the influences over the centuries. More power to him for bringing us this music.

  • Ah, You Tube audience...This is one (and only minute!!!) example of the rather large Strom range. Like all types of music, Klezmer has its variations. The countries it spans are many and Hot Pstromi covers quite a bit. They deserve all of the accolades they have been receiving. I love their work and own enough of their cds (and saw them live) to say so. They're awesome.

  • Heh.. I agree it's not klezmer..but have you seen his new massive songbook that he put out? I don't think it could have been put together by someone who knew nothing!

  • How is this Klezmer? It is Sephardi music...

  • nope, is ashkenazic music, originated in Moldavia, a romanian province splited by russians and austrians in Bukovina and Bessarabia. Jews from Galitsia and Moldavia had a mixture of the idish folklore with romanian (moldavian), and - in a lesser proportion - ukrainian folklore. Sirba, doina and others jewish themes are originated in romanian folklore. But the jewish awesome contribution is about the rithm (faster) and instrumentation (richer)

  • No, his name is spelled 'Yale.' Check out his website: http://www.yalestrom.com. zei gezunt.

  • Please note the correct spelling of Yael Strom's first name; it's not Yale, but Yael. It appeared in a search I did on Google for him: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Yael+Strom&btnG=Google+Search

But the seach came up blank once on YouTube...
