wrong camo? you guys slay me.......... EVERYONE in the video is wearing tigers, 2 ARVN sets, JWS, and a set of Golden Tadpole...... to be exact, For the record ERDL was extensively worn as well and is well documented in 100's of images..........
@FloridaLRRPs Never? Rarely Seen? The Army started issuing this camo to its troops in Vietnam in 1968, and soon after in 1969 the Marine Corps did the same. Granted it wasnt as wide spread as the poplin green jungle fatigues, but I would say by late 1968 you were more likely to see ERDL than tiger stripe.
wow 3 years after making this snippet to test a video editing/ special effects software program with some interesting content we shot and people still don't get that this ISN'T a historical documentary on NAM LRRP's..........it was a test sample! RELAX and enjoy it for what it is
i dont get why would the chopper come rolling in when it was all quiet and it just suddenly have a firefight. it seems like chopper have some teleportion ability when theres ambush going on =)..
I was a LRRP AFO in the 173D Airborne. We avoided grass and open areas. Grass is not cover, it is half assed conealment, and being out in the open was to us like saying, "Hey! I'm over here! Shoot me first!" I did two tours. I did too much, I Saw too much.
I began with C 2/503D, then was transferred to the "No Deros Alpha, A 2/503D" for seven months of terror before being sent to Battalion Recon for LRRP duty. There's no excitement like that.
@vector19X hello sir. iam dutch but recently heard of lrrp s and am very impressed just wanna say tho were not from the same country''s thanks and alot of respect to you sir!
@vector19X man i know what your saying i was in the marines (scout sniper so i didnt see that much action) but in afghanistan did you know a cpl. dunn thats my dad and when he described the war to me when i first joined it didnt sound pretty. when i got back i found out my best friend had died in an explosion i was depressed for a long time but when i see vets like you it makes me feel happy that im not the only one who lost friends. thank you very much for serving
u all like that stuff? go to the local bookstore and look up gary linderers books...he a former lrrp and has all kinds of books filled with story about patrols
I wouldn't so that. It's never a good idea to press a Vet about something he doesn't want to talk about. No, he's no gonna go Rambo on your ass, but it's incredibly emptional for them. How do I know, after interviewing several WW2 vets (including both my grandfathers) about subjects they DID want to talk about, I realized they were leaving some parts out, for a reason most of us won't ever understand.
airsofttanker - I realize that u were told or u tead, that lrrps r trained to charge the enemy. What u hear and read r not always true. Example - Marines are superior, marines are voluteers. Not always. In 1967 while lined up in the hallway in underwear in the Atlanta Ponce de Leon induction center for the ARMY, a Marine came in, walked down the line, picked every 3rd boy to be 'voluteered' into the Marines. Learn to believe the been there, done that, over the books and bullshitters.
Good, really good. Others have probably mentioned this, but - a lrrp really tries hard to avoid walking into a clearing like that -and - even a lrrp hits the ground fast in a close in firefight. But really you have a great video, I love it.
The RPK is a light machine gun - does not use belt ammo as does the US M60. Uses a 40 round magazine or a 75 round drum. I have had these shoot at me in the past. Ok your wording is misleading - I know of no one trained to 'charge'. You r trained to exit the 'kill zone'. I recall only 1 instance (ohter than a John Wayne movie) that I ever saw anyone 'charge' into the direction of an ambush. They did, by the way, die.
wow that just made recon look like shit. walk right out in the freaking opening and stand stright up. good job! i know the vid was just for effect but it could have been done and a different angle. one where recon doesnt look like a bunch of AMATURES!
lrrps stepped toe first to lessen the sound of their walking in enemy territory. could feel where your feet were going. was not uncommon for them to only move 1,000-2,000 meters or less in 1 day
This footage the result of our TESTING of a new effects program: after-effects. We have many LRRP friends including author Sgt Kenn Miller and our respect for ALL LRRP's is at the utmost. While this encounter is a rare turn of events, it was possible. However, it seems missed that immediately the remaining 4 members of the team responded by assaulting into the ambush[textbook] the TL tries to pull his wounded man out of harms way at great cost, showing the dedication the men had for each other.
First of all Thanks for the input, it helps a little. With a LRRP team of 4 to 6 men and with no support on station we did not Assault an ambush with the textbook response. We withdrew laying down fire and tossing grenades, picking up our wounded and dead if any and getting out of the kill zone.
this is a really pathetic video and i kinda find it offensive. my dad was a LRRP in vietnam and he kicked ass. next time try to find something that is equal for both sides instead of basically saying that LRRPs in vietnam sucked.
Boy, if that was real the LRRP concept would not have lasted very long. The Detachment I served with lost two men in the nine months I was with them. We also had two WIAs during that time.
