  • Daniel Ellsberg and Julian Assange are total hero's . . . thank God we have them to help light the path and provide a way to encourage transparency in government and other organisations

  • I love this man for reasons I do not need to explain. Finally in my lifetime a hero I can believe in.

  • Love it. I'm very much in favor of leaks.

  • @Ebuverthebicepcurler Great name btw. : )

  • Are you saying that if it is apparent that a source hasn't taken adequate steps to conceal their anonymity you wouldn't publish their material?

Usually potential whistle-blowers of any repute have had tabs kept on them well before they've hit on the idea of writing their memoirs. It is only when sabotage occurs a victim realises the full extent of the prior surveillance/ involvement of the authorities.seems strange to reassure people the persecutor wouldn't know who revealed the material.lol.

  • The reason the victim has come to have tabs on them in the first place is because that in order to have gained such valuable info on a bent political party/criminal organisation, or whatever, you would have had to have had close acquaintance with those involved. Leaders of such groups keep hidden abuses secret by making sure witnesses keep secrets

You seem to suggest you culd enter such an inner sanctum, like a fly on a wall or an observing scientist & then just leave cleanly without a trace

  • But theyre gonna know who came & went. they are gonna have observed there of politics and temperaments. They are going to be able to recall quite accurately who was pretending to be stupid when they clearly werent; who was squeamish but hiding it, who was faking it. Groups that need to hide are certainly going to be on the lookout for those with gifts of observation, a tendency to the arts-indicating writers, activists & so on.

Whats this idea that criminal masterminds/superpowers are idiots?

  • @MoonAharshMistress "Usually potential whistle-blowers of any repute have had tabs kept on them well before they've hit on the idea of writing their memoirs" True, but suspicion isn't enough on it's own, and might not be unusual in any sort of paranoid business/operation where many people could be suspected at once. Friendship also helps, people tend to trust their friends even if they are the most likely suspects. I do agree few could be entirely unsuspected.

  • @Ebuverthebicepcurler

Suspicion is "enough" on its own. They arent setting up a defence for the accused.lol. theyre businessmen or people engaged in crime or war etc. And they intend to win.

Paranoia is needed and rewarded, not trust.lol

  • @MoonAharshMistress You know, I disagree, friendship sometimes is at the heart of crime. How often has a businessman given his friends a job they didn't qualify for. Also- once again- numbers matter. If you suspect one guy, it's easy to guess who did it, but if you suspect every other guy, that's a problem. Admittingly there are cases where it's easy to see who did it. For those who are most suspected I recommend friendship, especially in racial/ethnic groups who preach sticking together.

  • @Ebuverthebicepcurler yep, we know, assange has wooed birgitta. what of it.

  • @MoonAharshMistress I have no idea what you're talking about honestly.

  • @Ebuverthebicepcurler lol. i must be speaking icelandic.
