I wish you could know how much I love you, Doug. Our time has all gone. I miss you sooo much everyday. This song reminds me of your precious tenderness to me. One very special day, i will see you again. You would be sooo proud of your son. He has your tenderness, compassion, and dedication to the people he loves. I see your passion in him. He is growing up and i see you more and more in him. Rest in peace my dear love of my life.
I don't think I have ever been moved to tears so easily in my life, than when I first heard this song from the live '74 release An Evening with John Denver. 37 years later and I am still overwhelmed with emotion. That's the deep emotional level that John connected with his audience. He has written many such songs!!!! Thank you.
I don't care how much a pessimist you might be about love... this song has to give everyone hope. Who wouldn't want to be be with someone who could feel this way about you? Really?
There are no words that can fully capture nor describe the timeless beauty and authenticity of John Denver. His songs had such purity. You rarely hear that nowadays, if ever. Thank you for posting!!
If you can't feel this music then I fear you cannot feel life at all. John was a poet, musician and realist that transcended generations. Thank you for all you gave us and, even more, for what you meant to so many of us!
@anton6861 I have been, stuck on this song all week long , I had to make up my mind, my Girl made it up for me, Now i know how to cry and know ,i know that her tears, did belong to me , i hope that i can grow up now, maybe i still got a chance to love, again, I'm 53, and she's still with me, only not the way, IT was before. time will tell. time will go. time will pass, then, i'll know !

@Charli & Misterbear and any others that hurt, I am so sorry for you heart ache. I have that same heart ache for my Sweetest most beautiful Mother. She had a massive heart attack and went home. The one that gets me the most is "Sad Song" Oh, my. I have a hard time typing the name of that song but it sooo hits home and she and I used to sing it together and play our guitars when she was here so you can imagine what it does to me now. Chin up! We will be together again one day! <3
Beautiful song, love to hear John sing it. He was a friend of my family for many many years.
The love of my life was a musician, he wasn't really into John or John's music but on my 20th birthday in front of friends and family Jerry, sat down in front of me with his guitar and sang this song to me then he asked me to marry him. To think he had taken the time to learn this song on the guitar and sing it to me in front of everybody, I lost Jerry almost 4 years ago, but like John he is with me.
@dorothysmom I don't know why but for some reason when I read this I cried, that was beautiful. I am 62 yrs. old and have reformed my band and I sang "Wonderful Tonight" dedicated to my wife and I almost made it through the whole song....almost! Love is love and that is all there is to it....sweet memories.
@dorothysmom I remember not being able to sleep in the wee hours of the morning and I got up and listened to one of John's records until I got tired and went back to sleep. I heard later that morning that he had died in a plane crash. He was the best.
Im so sorry about your love you truly had so much love between yourselves This is such a beautiful song to be rememebered by I just hope before I leave this planet that I can feel the feelings you both had............
Back in the late 70's, early 80's, I met John Denver in a Hollywood Health Food Store. He was hosting for Johnny Carson. I told him that when I perform 'My Sweet Lady', I do it much slower. He put his arm on my shoulder, and sincerely said,"you should sing it at the speed that is most comfortable for you". I will never forget meeting him and talking to him as a friend and musician.
i didn't know that there are so many of you who loved your lady as much as he did, Thank you John ! Where ever God has layed, you," to wait, to see us again, in the next hozizon of the next page, of life, that:" Jehovah,my God! Has given to us to find ourselves , happy, joyous and free! and in love, in never out.
For years I played this song on my guitar for MY Sweet Lady. Every time I played it for her she wept with a strengthened LOve for me. Then one day, while we were doing other things, LIFE happened and she succumbed to a terminal disease. It took me years to play it without total meltdown. But alas, there came that day when I succeeded and I saw her smiling affirming her everlasting LOve once again. Until we meet again, My Sweet Lady, MyLOve...MyChris...
@misterbear8 John Denver had this wonderful ability to capture the emotions felt by so many, and could express them like no other artist of his generation. I grew up with his music and still feel the loss of his incredible talent. Prayers to you and thanks for sharing your beautiful experience with your Sweet Lady.
@misterbear8 Your words touched every nerve, I too have been where you are, God bless you and make you strong, the words of Lady-are so beautiful, as I'm sure your Chris was, when I lost my Jim I had our wedding film put onto Video, and John Denver supplied the Song, Sometimes it helps to shed tears, God Bless you, sue
"At times ruff n tuff got you by, But deep w/in Dolphins make you cry. That which you have kept & stored, Can now be given to Your Lord. For in death You were not defeated, At the Rght Hand of God, John...go & be seated". This is an excerpt from my poem Tribute To Ol Sweetness(Walter Payton) by Talara D. Masters. Felt the influence to post this to him. Loved growing up w/him. Thank you for your gifts to us & the world, John. I hope my work blesses You 'n JD I'll see You when I get HOME!!
This was it.... our song or at least her song to me ,28 years later when we broke up and even though its been 4 yrs. it still brings tears to my eyes I guess you never really get over you"re first love at least not totally.
This was my wedding song back in '76. We're no together, it only lasted a year, but, his son, my first born, Jeff Butler, RIP, there's no words, I love you, son, I wish you would have listened! My heart is broken, I'd like to say that nothing could ever be this bad, and if I survived this, i can survive anything, I can't, because I still have 3 more boys to go (grow up) obviously, I'm not that great a mom. I'm sorry, Jeff.
I feel the same way about this song as I did when I was a little kid more than 20 years ago after listening to it on my dad's Poems, prayers and promises album....delighted.
When I first started listening to John's music , this was one of my most special songs ... and it still brings tears to my eyes for times past and dreams never filled.
It is 40 years since I first heard it ... says it all I think.
What's to be said that's not already been said....John was simply the most gifted musician of his time... wonderful voice, lyrics... absolutely superb......a pleasure and privilege to have his music to listen to...!!!!
What's to be said that's not already been said....John was imply the most gifted of all modern musicians...great voice..wonderful lyrics..absolutely superb... RIP
I think My Donna Marrie everytime I here this song and wish she was still with me to sing it too her. This would have been the song I would sing to her on the day we would be joined together forever.
I LOVE THIS GUY! i just discovered his music when one of my teachers told me to look up "flying for me" about the challenger and i love his voice! i cant get enough!
@desslou Thank God you found him...it's never too late to find and enjoy genius! He marked most of the moments in my life...I'm so glad we had him...even for a short time...too short a time.
@desslou I agree with Catbrush123 ! Welcome! This music shaped my life. I wouldn't be the person I am today without it. I truly hope that you enjoy all his music... if your in a mood for a laugh... try Home Grown Tomatoes...
If someone were to ask me what was my favorite John Denver song this would have to be it. No easy call to make because of more than a few others are just as good.
I loved John's music. This song was especially touching for me. My then lover was deaf-he used to say we had forever...I signed (sign language) the words to this song for him once....One night went out to a very nice club....Guitar player, piano etc.. folks-ie group.... He wrote on a napkin- for them to play this dedicated to me from him...(Have you ever had a DEAF man request a song for you-because he knew how it made you feel?) The band pointed us out- Not a dry eye in the house---
I still remember how much this song touched me so deep inside in my hardest of times, " MY Sweet Lady" For all of the loves, that had come my way, she was the one, that swooned me away. She was the one, who held my hand, as I read three words, written in the sand. The walks on the beach, with her were devine, the three words we said, still haunting my mind. Now she is gone, I'm alone here again, never to forget, how it was way back when. For she was, MY SWEET LADY
@tonyt581 thank you Tony, that was a nice comment... And for us the living,, we will always be searching for the things that are so deeply embedded into our hearts from the time we were born,,,
Love. This song by John,,, was as breath taking as it comes.
So this girl I know started talking about this guy and how much she loved his music and all the work he did. I did a wiki on him and said "I hate folk." She forced me to listen to this song and how much she wanted this to be her wedding song and now I understand why. Really moving song, and I NEVER listen to this kind of music. Much credit to John Denver. RIP
oh my. I last heard this when I was a teen, and knew all the words. Now, 32 years later I heard it again on the radio, and was blown away all over again. The tears fell. John I miss your music.
This is one of the first songs I've learned on the guitar,,,,we often sang it acapella at home. Hearing it again brings back a lot of warm memories that will never come back, because so many have passed away. Even John...nice that people still honour him. He's part of my childhood...
RIP John, this song is simply beautiful and an angelic voice. You are now singing in God's choir. I know we will see each other in heaven. Perfect song for a wedding. Love you John.
I was only 12 years old when I fall in love with the movie "Sunshine". From that moment on I kept humming this Tune. I never expected that this very song will become a part of me. Thanks for the music JD! Catbrush123 thank you too for posting this song!
My husband sang this to me when we first got together, he's been gone for 20 years.and everttime I here it, my heart brakes and I feel him with me.I love him still.
@embstitcher Thats so sad ......I bet he sits smileing down at you and it feels like only a second ago you were together x he will be waiting on the other side of the moon for you x
If you change the word "Lady" to "Baby" you'll understand how much this song meant to me when my son was born in critical condition and we didn't think he would live. I sat in the newborn intensive care center, holding my precious baby boy and sang..."Baby, are you crying? Do the tears belong to me? Do you think our time together is all gone? Baby, my sweet baby, I'm as close as I can be and I promise you our time has just begun....."
@littlesheepandchicks What a wonderful story. My daughter was born very sick also and the doctors didn't know if she was going to live through the night and wanted to know if I had a name picked out for her to put on her death certificate. What an awful feeling. She is okay now and has blessed me with a beautiful grandaughter. I hope your son is fine now. Life is too precious and I love this song. Good luck and God bless.
One of the purist voices i have ever heard. Love his lyrics in Ballads and love songs.Never tire of listening to him. A spiritual man, and it comes through in his beautiful voice, Magdalene Kennedy 3/1/11

@MARY9661 I KNOW! to me, music is like food for my soul. Just like I don't eat garbage, I am very careful about the source of the music I listen to. It is the heart, of course...and to me, that is the important thing. That I can trust the heart of the singer--because they are taking me on a journey to my own heart. So if music, like food, becomes a part of your being, you don't want to listen to just *anything*. It's also about connecting. Since we are all one, you will connect on a deeper level
What a blessing John Denver is and always will be. He makes you feel every word every note he brought the song to to life. He brought me to tears he made me feel if you can't feel after listening to this song then check you pulse.
Johns voice was so unique, no one can posess it. I love this song, he sings with so much passion and his words reach deep into my soul. I miss you John but you live forever in my heart. R.I.P.
Johns voice was so unique no one else can posses it. His songs bring tears to my eyes. I absolutely love this song. It's as though he's talking right to me. We miss you John and you will always live on my heart. Why is the good ones always leave this world so soon. R.I.P.
Two days after hearing it after many years, the only more touching experience is to have heard Monkeylessjohn and our lost John harmonize around the truth and beauty of some of the most beautiful sounds ever created.
I wish..... :'(

RIP
Tsukasa981 11 months ago
