  • This is one of the worst songs ever recorded. Makes all those worst pop song lists. MacArthur Park was Horrible as well.

  • To Jessi from Justin

  • This song gives me shivers, but not in a good way. "What a lovely way of saying how much you love me." Apparently pregnancy is supposed to be some kind of elaborate love letter to the man. That's a bit...extreme. And the most enthusiastic word he could come up with was 'lovely'?

Oh well, at least he's not calling his partner a 'ho', which gives this song bonus points.

  • HVJ

  • .....correctness. Debate it! Argue it! But get over it. It's just a frigging song!

  • He wimped out and said having our baby. Music is art and need not be changed for some political

  • Good

    Rosenthal itamar

    Rishom le zion

  • the cheesiest song ever... too bad, the nice tune deserved better lyrics.

  • There should be a law against this song...worst song of the 70s IMO

  • This song brings back so many memories for me. When I found out I was expecting our first child my husband put a request on the radio for this song. I did not know this. We were on our way to my parents house. He was in such a hurry. First thing he did when we got there was turn the radio on. When this played and my name was mentioned also my husbands love. I cried. We had 4 children together. We had 33 wonderful years together. . Hearing this song brings back all his love for me.

  • God will make a way where there is no other way

  • massive song love it, into his daughter anthea's new blog too, stumbled on it today, worth a look at

    antheaanka. com

  • torn between two lovers

  • Since the House of Joseph and the House of Judah are the One Stick of Ezekiel 37:19- it does not matter whether Jaeson or Kenny get Meesh pregnant but when she has a baby boy that fulfills one of the last events other than the Great Commission but Kenny must marry Meesh so the two can become one flesh so in 1000 years I can keep her out of hell for eternity.

  • I was pregnant with my first child when this was on the charts. 1974/75. I would cry when I heard it. All those hormones lol

  • What was he thinking? What a shit and creepy song

  • Where is Westbury? Paul is from Ottawa Ontario

  • @Railrodder Westbury, NY is on Long Island, in Nassau County.

  • Today is Father's Day, and I want to wish a Happy Father's Day to all the "Would Be" Dads that wish they were fathers as I wish I was. That would be the grandest thing in the world for a little girl or a little boy to call me "Daddy". There's nothing else that I want more in life than a family.

  • Not one of my favorite of Paul's, but it is a song he wrote when his wife was expecting one of his daughters. So some of you detractors, show some respect! You don't have to be so foul! He performed it on a live album in the mid 1980's and sang it very softly, like a lullaby. I think more people would appreciate it if they heard that version instead. Oddly enough, there is also a techno version of it that is damned catchy. It is also available to see/hear on YouTube.

  • Yuck!..This should never be heard nor seen. He and it should be banned from everything for life. The seed inside you woman do you feel it growing? No but I feel my lunch coming back up. What a disgusting little troll. Yuck, WTF? Check out his Smells like teen spirit video..It's even more disturbing. Paul you are one sad little monkey

  • @medellinproperties

Haha! I do not know, therefore I cannot dislike, Paul Anka...but this song is GROSS :-\

  • Does anyone have the female version of this song? I heard it a long, long time ago and would like to listen to it again.

  • @DonnaWerhan Donna, it was recorded by Sunday Sharpe the same year as Paul released it. Very hard to find, though. It was also released on United Artists Records.

  • I loved the original version but this one doesn't even come close to it. Some things are just meant to be changed.

  • He destroys the song, on glee they sings it 100000000000000 times better

  • I think this is one of the most beautiful songs ever! I thought it when I first heard if many years ago and still do to this day. There is nothing more special in this world then a new born baby, the only thing is I believe he and his wife of many years divorced, after 5 daughters.

  • Love this guy. Don't much care for the song. Prefer his parody of it on the tv show Las Vegas -- "Having my Burger."

  • Hmmm, that makes my list for top 3 worst songs of all time....simply unbearable, no pun intended

  • it was a class song in its day and still is,so what songs do you like then.Max bygraves?

  • heheheheh, I guess that's class with a "K", huh?

  • with a K ?

  • duy, There's nothing cheesy about this song. I think it's wonderful that a man is singing about the woman that he loves having his child. What could be more loving than that? I loved being pregnant and my hubby thought I looked more beautiful than ever. He loved seeing his son being born. It was the best day of both of our lives. Bringing a new unique human being into the world is a gift from God.

  • LMAO at this song!!!!!!!!

  • I remeber this song when i was in 6th grade recess we would play this on a 45

  • CARMEN...!!!! por los buenos tiempos mas alla de la MUERTE....!!!! te recuerdo con MUCHO AMOR.....

  • This is and always be...my favorite song!!!! Silly, maybe...but it's so beautiful! My son is 17 now, and used to listen to it when I was pregnant! Paul Anka is amazing!!! God Bless Him.....and God Bless You! MUAH! XX ~Amy :)

  • Your son listened to it when you were pregnant?

Wouldn't that mean he's the father? (by this song)

  • liberals bashed him for this song.AWESOME SONG.

  • Yes... it truly is a wonderful song...thanks for the comment

  • This is such a wonderful song

  • HAYyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. I just saw ur video!!! msg me on MSN

  • FHSDSFRCY

  • Great song by the the great performer and composer!!!5*****Thanks for sharing!!!

  • He's not singing the lyrics. He's reciting them.

  • Get some class!

  • :(:( wat?! rn't i allowed to voice my opinions?? :(:( hahahaha

  • he is 80 years old now give him a break.

  • I "See" Your "comments"..but this is one of the greatest "joys in life"..is "having a baby" by someone You love....take the

" personal emotion "out of it...and "rejoice" in the "Gift of Life!"viewpoints3

  • OUCH!

  • This is the WORST song ever written, MacArthur Park is next and all the Teen Car Crash songs next!!!!!

  • Can't please all people all the time!

  • I agree with the first part of your comment, but MacArthur Park is pretty cool!

  • @annmled I'll agree with you on this one. This is the cheesiest song ever. She loves what having his baby is doing to her. Give us a big break. I remember when this came out the feminists had a field day with it. Macarthur Park isn't great but it's not terrible. I still have no idea what it's about. A park, some cake he lost the recipe. Makes no sense. As for the teen car crash songs they were great in that terrible B movie kind of way. So bad you like it because it is so bad.

  • ayrin esta cancion te didico con mucho cari´ño hace muchos años cuando estabas en mi vientre como fuistes la primera .loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeemom

  • met the man out in real life he is a complete jerk and talks to people like trash.

  • That doesn't suprise me.

  • Havin' my baby What a lovely way of sayin' How much you love me Havin' my baby What a lovely way of sayin'What you're thinkin' of me I can see it, face is glowin' I can see in your eyes I'm happy you know it That you're havin' my baby You're the woman I love And I love what it's doin' to ya You're a woman in love And I love what's goin' through ya The need inside you I see it showin' the seed inside
  • i saw paul anka at foxwoods, he sang to me!!!!! i melted, hes so great, hes a wonderful man, whats he got like 7 kids??? he kissed me and hugged me. omg i adore him

  • i like this song too....i have heard it on radio

  • I've never understood the uproar over the lyrics,if you step back for a sec,and listen to it it's a just man professing his love to the woman having his child. This song holds a special place for me because my father bought two 45 copies of this when my mother was pregnant with me some 33yrs ago.

  • It's a very beautiful song, sung in tribute to his (then) wife who, if I recall correctly, was expecting a baby at the time. The controversy that erupted over this song back then is really laughable when you csnsider some of the tripe that's on the airwaves nowadays.

  • I agree with you queen.. but It was the womman libbers who took offense to this song... and over one stupid word "my"

  • Yeah, and they were really about the only ones that any offence to the song. Which was really hypocritical of them because when Paul sang "Having MY Baby" they intimidated him into changing it to "Having OUR Baby" but if they wanted to get rid of the kid it suddenly becomes "MY" body and nothing and no one else matters. It's all about ME.

  • i'm in complete agreence with you ,queen

  • whoa! Calm down! I think you'll find it's the narcissistic overtones and the fact that he sings at her like she's doing him some kind of favour like an incubater that bothers most people. Yes, PEOPLE.

  • The only narcissists here were the radical feminists who apparently believe that the baby is merely a piece of chattel subject only to the shifting whims of the owner (meaning the mother). There's nothing narcissistic about the song. It's a sweet, celebratory song over the miracle of new life.

  • I thought it was this part which contributed to the controversy:

    "Didn't have to keep it

    Wouldn't put ya through it

You could have swept it from you life

    But you wouldn't do it

    No, you wouldn't do it"

They got upset the woman in the song made the wrong "choice."

  • That was partly it, I think. Feminists just LOVE abortion, you know. But I think much of the dust-up was that he sang "Having MY Baby". Some of them thought that it should have been "Having OUR Baby" as parenthood is to be shared between mom and dad. But it's strange, when they want to get rid of the kid then it suddenly becomes MY Body, MY LIfe, My this and that. Dad is suddenly a non-entity. The hypocrisy of these women has been breath-taking sometimes.

  • La actual sociedad esta mal han perdido el romanticismo lo han cambiado por el metal.

    Preciosa cancion.

  • missc10 : I remember that the controversy with this song was contained with in the lyrics.... the woman 's libbers were offended by the word "my"..it was the women back then.... not the ones now

  • Bravo

  • Didn't Paul Anka get some flack from the womans lib people because of this song?

  • Did he? Can you explain why? What is wrong with women today?

  • Actually, it was because the song was just so sappy and hokey.

  • Maybe to you it was, but millions more liked it enough to make it a number one hit in 1974.

  • Remamber sitting in the Wimpy Burger Bar and playing this song on the juke box again and again.Ah memories!!

  • still good as he was from35years

  • Lovely song but sad that he eventually left her after writing such a beautiful tribute.

  • From interview: "After 37 years of marriage, he recently divorced his wife, former fashion model Anne de Zogheb, mother of their 5 grown daughters. "It's the hardest thing you do. It was my choice, not hers". "We talk evr.day. I love this woman. Still do. It's just something I have to do for myself. Your kids are gone. The house changes. And I can't honestly be in something, whether it's a marriage or whatever, and be dishonest to a threshold that I don't like."

  • Oh i so love this song and Paul hasnt lost his wonderful voice , still as good as ever

LOL i bet that baby has made him a grandparent now LOL

  • One of the lamest, most sexist songs ever written.--arnie113

  • Arnie: Oh, shut up !!!

  • LOL its not sexist one little bit , its about a man who is thanking his woman for going through all the wrecking your body and discomfort of pregnancy. i mean you men have it easy !!! , your part is over in a few seconds LOL

oh but seriously i wouldnt mind Paul thanking me, for the pleasure of him getting me up the duff LOL LOL

  • Cry; my comment was on the womans lib people back from the early 70s... when anything a guy could say( siger ,or not) was offensenive

  • Oh OK fair enough but your comment reads as your opinion right now , so hence the flack you have recieved i think

  • crys: It's not my opinon... it actually happened back then...I don't have anything against the song

  • I know i understand that i was just saying its how it reads/looks to others you know like its....well really fiercly your opinion , sometimes i guess its not always easy to see/understand what or how someone is saying something you know with just words on screen

  • that's true,crys...I just happened to have remembered it that way... i understand what you said

  • I can read what you've said.. and not get hurt ,or offended...( because you state it in a very nice way) but what I don't like is when someone else resorts to name calling & harrassment

  • Your sweet Freyia, no i didnt get offended but thanks anyway , and i agree name calling and harrasment is childish in my opinion.

OK yeah my message does look a bit muddled LOL sorry.

i was saying the comment you wrote read as if it was fiercely YOUR opinion , but i can now see your a nice person

  • why thank you for the compliment, crys i agree with you..but I lived through that erratic period in time

  • thank you crys

  • That's what I thought too. I don't know if this was a song written to his wife or if it was written for some girl he got knocked up. I don't know his history so I can't judge, but I think it is a lame song as well.

  • noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! he is far away from Elvis , dean , frank , humperdink and jones !!!!!! hard luck

  • I would like to listen Paul Ankas's earliest, original of those days, with thos wonderful chorus!

  • Pauls recording of Diana (when I was 16) was my absolute favorite at the time. I named one of my twins Diana just because of that song.!

  • Peg : the paul anka song which is myf avorite is lonely boy

  • Sounds great, and I'm always a fan of this classic pop music, but Paul needs a backing orchestra. No cheesy synths! The real deal! You need that real sound to back you up on stage.

  • There was a full orchestra! They were in the pit surrounding the revolving stage. No "cheesy synths" were used for this concert!

  • Ah! My bad! I saw him alone on stage and I just assumed there was no orchestra. What are they doing hiding away? Put them up on the same stage. It's better for the acoustics. It's also better to look at.

  • This is th worst popular song ever written and I love it

  • He's incredible...like wine...he gets better with age...I see him twice yearly at Mohegan Sun in CT...been following him since I was 11 years old..I'm 56 now...I finally got my kiss...had to wait 45 years..it was well worth the wait!!

    rosepauld

  • Cool...I remember this song! He still sounds pretty good to be, what, a 100 or so?

  • It was his birthday that weekend and he just turned 65....

  • I remember that song! Cool ... thanks for sharing!
