well done dale that's quick!! just shows hand drill should not be overlooked as a fire by friction method in this country, bow drill is very popular but you show how hand drill can be used with less materials than the bow drill!.
Some one else just posted a video about that type of wood. Makes friction fires effortless. Problem is, you never can find that type of wood when you need it ! LOL
Oh I looked it up and it was you who posted the fire plow using Sotol wood !
@LearnBushcraft I wonder how many of the Survival school instructors are cheating ? Using this wood and giving their student look alike wood to learn on like Maple. LOL
lol yea, jumping in there with dry stuff can make a difference. No offence, I can do the same thing right now with zero problems. Pick up some wet wood, or do it with the material around you and I will have respect.
@PartisonConfederate Yes of course it does. I can do it after dunking my kit in water but then, using a special drilling technique, it takes about 5 mins.. no where near 5 seconds. Are you going to upload a vid of a fast ember? I always like a challenge!
@PartisonConfederate You're a cock, no offence. I have seen Mr Collett pick up wet - as in soaking wet - materials on several occasions and crank out an ember, often with tiny little drills in the most appalling weather conditions. He makes clear in this video description what materials he's using. I too look forward to watching your own video upload showing us all how it's done, if you've got the balls to put your money where your mouth is.

@hobo59 Ha ha, Yes thanks... it is amazing. It has one of the lowest ignition points of any fire by friction wood.

@hobbexp Thanks... maybe i should give it a go. I have amazing tinder here to try!! The materials are the key to it all!
LearnBushcraft 1 year ago
@LearnBushcraft I would love to see you beat that with a hand drill! I think my best time is oh ... 10 minutes with the bow.
EconoChallenge 1 year ago
@hobbexp fastest with a hand drill is 2 seconds, with a hot board...im down to 8 seconds to a coal with the bowdrill, after the hole is married.
