In Canada we have all the same video games, movies, and TV channels, yet the overall US murder rate is 0.043 per person, while in Canada it is 0.015. Murders with firearm are 0.028 per person in the US and 0.005 in Canada. What could the difference be?

Update of the day. French press came into the gun store. They too shot for 2 hours, and took pictures. They LOVED it, said they never knew how it was because in their culture its demonized. Now pro-gun. A Brit came in. Told me here was in US for 2 weeks on business. He said the only thing in America he couldnt wait to do was shoot. He shot over 1,000 rounds. x

Even with gun control you can not stop these killings because they will find some way to get a firearm anyway. I am therefore not for gun control and beleive it will not happen in my lifetime. What we should do is before selling someone a weapon we should give them a psychological test to show us if they are suited to own a firearm. I am not for gun control but i would like to make it harder to get firearms on the street.

I think banning guns is unconstitutional. The real problem is not with legally owned guns. It's with the illegal guns. However, there needs to be checks and balances on getting guns, just like you have tests to get a car license, there should be gun education and testing to make sure that the person knows the gun laws and regulations and is a responsible person. If you can't trust your car with a teenager, you won't give your gun to a teenager either. Responsibility is key.

New York gun killings 2006 were 583 in population of 8m. UK gun killings 2006 were 48 in population of 60m. US police forces state that on average 60-70% of gun killings occur in non premeditated crime situations when individual emotion and anger spill over (domestic argument, arguments in bars/clubs etc), common sense evaporates, and they grab the available weapon. Draw your own conclusions, I have already drawn mine.

Point of clarification, I am not saying video games or the teaching staff caused the killings. I say in the video the only person to blame is the killer. I include the video games and failures of the school to illustrate my point. We can blame whoever we want, but if somebody wants to kill, they will. Also, the implication was, our culture is soaked in violence, then our nation is "shocked" when something like this happens. We glorify violence on one hand, then condemn it on the other.

You are right. I have since learned it was not Hitler who said that but rather a member of the Nazi Party sometime between 1928-1931. Gun laws in Germany during those three years were aimed at disarming the people and the communists in Germany to prevent opposition. Therefore the source is unimportant, but rather the fact that a government sought to disarm its people in power grap, that led to disaster.
