I stutter and when people don't know that you stutter they tend to think it's funny but when they realise you really do stutter you can tell that they are alittle ashamed of thinking it was funny... but I guess you can't blame them for not knowing but it shouldn't make you afraid of doing certain things or first and foremost talking to people cause if you don't talk they'll never know right?
@Aaronjiski I totally agree with you. I have a stammer too and i hate ordering things and being at school when answering questions because everyone laughs whn i stammer. It really has knocked my confidence and i want to change but i know ican't and it's quite sa really.
@Trikkibel If people laugh at you stammering then they are just ignorant, they really are to not know that someone might have something to say and the best way they can react is to cut someone off or make fun of it.When I got older my stammering got better and people didn't care that much, and girls think it's cute when a guy stammers.I wouldn't beat myself up about it,I know it sucks and there have been many times I wished I didn't have it,but then again they only care if you care.Just go with it
i went to see Gareth the other night his new musical starring as joseph - he sings so beautifuly and i really admire him for his progress on his speech, he is truly amazing
Gareth is talking a little bit bullshit about the question, why stammerers don't stammer when singing.
1. Speech is produced in the left part of the brain, singing in the right part and that's the most important thing - two different neurological things !
2. Stammerers don't doubt that they can sing without problems, so there isn't a fear of singing similar to the fear of speaking, so confidence is a point indeed.
@mrhairsaviour: that's not the point. The point is, that Gareth says things about stammering, which aren't true. The answer, why stammerers don't stammer when singing is clear: to different neurological pathways, that's a neurological fact.
@mrhairsaviour: thank's for your comment. It is true, that some people stammer even when they are singing, but that is very seldom.
In fact, I've never met a stammerer, who couldn't sing fluently and I know a lot of stammerers. Also, stammering tends to completely go away, when the singing goes on, although the first sound(s) may be hard.
@mrhairsaviour: I've never heard of it, but just googled it. It seems to be a disability similar to stammering, but stammering is a different topic, in my eyes.
@mrhairsaviour: I'm not sure with this. As I said, I don't know much about spasmodic dysphonia, but I am very sceptical about a connection with stammering. Granted, there are some similarities, but spasmodic dysphonia isn't mentioned in relation to stammering very often, is it ?
Stammering & stuttering affect 1% of our population and many other of us suffer when we are STRESSED. I help my patients with the HeartMath technique and find it highly efficacious.

@BSX87 thats not true cos some people stutter when they sing too...its too complex an issue to generalise...

@BSX87 what my point is is that many stutterers actually have undiagnosed spasmodic dysphonia for which an injection will cure it..

@BSX87 thats because alot of stammering spasmodic dysphonia sufferers are undiagnosed..there will be alot out there that think they simply stammer
