@daljin1991: Well sometimes Jimi played bad and other times amazing. He was an uneven player to be fair... Still it is cool to see old footage of Jimi early in his short career.

Some people talk about how great Jimi was on guitar, in all honesty I think he was a terrible guitarist, he was incredibly sloppy and inconsistent, but what he did with a guitar was beyond anything any technically proficient guitarist could do. Its like he wrote masterpieces without ever hearing another song before in his life. He did things that just didnt exist before he came along. People have been trying to emulate him for years and no one even comes close, no one sounds like Jimi.

Being technically good doesn't mean too much though, does it? To me it shows more mathmatical and technical skills - scientific rather than artistic.

It's like Steve Vai compared with Van Halen. Vai is the technical genius...but the solo to Beat It or Jump? Legendary.
