It still confuses me every time I see the American covers of the books. I mean, they're cool and all, don't get me wrong. But for me Harry Potter will always mean those brightly coloured, faintly ridiculous, mismatched pictures of obscure points in the storyline that have hardly any bearing on the plot. (That's if they're part of the story at all.)
Apologies for my nostalgia, but I just found out they've discontinued the original British covers and replaced them with weird white ones. =(

This made me cry so hard. The other day I was in the car thinking about how I never got my Hogwarts letter, and how lucky all those European kids that go to Hogwarts are. No math, potions, charms, having such an amazing school... then it hit me, Hogwarts isn't real, it is a fictional place created in our minds. Hehe.. It's not a hickey. When Eric was 2 his neck had swollen up to the size of a baseball. We thought it was lymphoma but after testing we found that it was only cat scratch fever. They did go ahead and remove it surgically and it left quite a scar. TMI I'm sure but there ya go!

The best thing about Harry Potter and Hogwarts is that it isn't just some magic castle or fiction books. Just as the song represented it is about us all losing ourselves in the books and bonding together with all of those fellow outcasters and finding a place where we belong. The magic is that it brings us together and the difference it inspires us to make in the world. And though people around me may not understand it, it makes me feel better knowing how many people out there really do.

Wow, Lauren! This is an amazing, amazing video! It's so professional looking. Your voice is also getting so much stronger from your old stuff. It's brilliant! And, of course, your lyrics are amazing and relate-able and perfect and wonderful, as alwasys.
First of all, so professional! I loved all the shots and the sets and everything. Second, I love how much I can relate to it. Just the three different scenarios - the kid using HP as an escape from her parents fighting, the boy not fitting in at all, the girl not having a boyfriend but having her good friends and being proud - they were such realistic and great mini plot lines for the video.
As much as fantasy literature got me through an often-tough childhood, as an adult I also have to admit that in some ways, absorption of the tropes common to fantasy in my formative years also instilled some dysfunctional ideas about life that still to this day adversely affect my ability to get through an often-tough adulthood. Fantasy is great, but reality is reality, and can't be hidden from forever.

The best thing about Harry Potter and Hogwarts is that it isn't just some magic castle or fiction books. Just as the song represented it is about us all losing ourselves in the books and bonding together with all of those fellow outcasters and finding a place where we belong. The magic is that it brings us together and the difference it inspires us to make in the world. And though people around me may not understand it, it makes me feel better knowing how many people out there really do.

This video! I cried.
First of all, so professional! I loved all the shots and the sets and everything. Second, I love how much I can relate to it. Just the three different scenarios - the kid using HP as an escape from her parents fighting, the boy not fitting in at all, the girl not having a boyfriend but having her good friends and being proud - they were such realistic and great mini plot lines for the video.

As much as fantasy literature got me through an often-tough childhood, as an adult I also have to admit that in some ways, absorption of the tropes common to fantasy in my formative years also instilled some dysfunctional ideas about life that still to this day adversely affect my ability to get through an often-tough adulthood. Fantasy is great, but reality is reality, and can't be hidden from forever.
