So does anyone remember a shooting game that was like contra but top down. I think it also had overkill in the title. It also had a modern alien syndrome feel to it, though it was like Zelda in that you would go from room to room.
Dos is a far better gaming platform than windows. If modern video card manus could settle on a standard, we could see bootable games that perform much better on the same hardware. Something like a basic unix for basic OS functionality where game programmers could talk directly to the hardware.
seeing that game at 0:30 makes me want to cry. it was a child hood game i would play for hours on end. What was the name of it? I just had it on a cd filled with about 50 games an knew it was letter J to start the game, whats the name of it?
does anyone remmember the name of a DOS game where you were some kind of ninja or somehitng, with a bandana on the head, and you had to throw knives to skeletons?????
Does anyone know a name for a game where you werea miner and you had to buy mine gold and then buy weapons (it was a funny dos game) you could play it on 2 player mode too. its miners or mine or diggers not sure i really want to find it
didnt show enough gameplay footage of space hulk! just all the technical crap. And should put names to the games on the screens so I could match them up easier, but otherwise good vid
Yeah jedixo! That's the one where you're a flying saucer with really hard controls; the one that is fun once you develop your skills but absolutely frustrating until you do.
Right? I liked that game despite its frustrations.
I hate to see games these days that are all spit and polish and DX10++
but have such a lack of real grist.
[I can't think of any outstanding examples but there are a few titles that I have found lacking in immersion]
I see muereteflanders has asked for DOOM. He/she has a point, but I think this vid is a homage to the PC games that were purely for fun, before anyone even thought of divisions like genre and age-restriction on PC gaming.
Ever try DOS-box. it's the best emulator i've ever tried. It works really well. And it has compatability for every joystick, video card, and sound card. It works awesome.
Nice effort. I noticed you included the Epic Pinball theme at the end. IMHO, the music of DOS games was essential to their genius. I would sooner replace the images than the music. It would be cool if you could use them all throughout.
Yes. Not necessarily Jazz Jackrabbit level 2 music over a video of level 2, but perhaps music from the same game. Some versions of dosbox reproduce the FM music quite well. I would be glad to help you with this for the games I have: Doom II, the Apogee, Epic and ID shareware games, and many others (I can send you the list).
I also had a crazy idea: pick one good song, and show a short video clip from a different DOS game on *each beat* of the song. I didn't get very far but it looked promising.
It's an interesting idea and probably would be better than always using other music. I'll probably do that for my second or third vid of the series. I have to decide if I want to do it with help or by myself. Feel free to send me the list though.
Heh, each beat wouldn't be too hard; just tedious. YouTube tends to delay the audio or at least the music slightly, so it probably wouldn't work well on here. You could continue working on it though as that would be an original idea. :)
And cyclones? :(
