An irreplacable musician and professor who taught me so much. i love you Bill! Thanks for all of your work that you left for us. You were one of a kind.
A long interview with Bill Dixon (55 pages!) can be found in the book "Jazz Talk - The Cadence Interviews' by Robert D. Rusch. Published by Lyle Stuart Inc., 1984. ISBN 0-8184-0357-8
November 1981, which Alan Silva played on along with Mario Pavone and Laurence Cook, is one of the great albums of modern jazz. Mr. Dixon, thank you. Rest in peace.
i saw him perform a duo with Joelle Leandre at the Guelph jazz Fest...also at Victoriaville with Tony Oxley and Cecil Taylor, i also had the honor to be present for his final performance this past May with his "Tapestries For jazz Orchestra" also in Victoriaville...it was such a magical night....
Thank you for posting this. Bill had such a distinctive voice on trumpet and his music was so inspiring. The "November 1981" disc is one of my favorites. RIP Mr. Dixon.
