Hip-hop is a different class of music than rap...first and foremost the message. Hip-hop is not dead, nor is anything happening to it. Underground is where it's been all along......underground. And if you think a message can die, you're only kidding yourself. You can never kill an idea, especially the idea that's the voice of the voiceless. The fact that I can hear this song over and over says it's not dead. New artists still put these hits out....they're UNDERGROUND.
@FreedomIsInTheMind Well said bro.. i agree completely.. it always pisses me off when i hear idiots say hiphop is dead. See what I did there? I pulled a Jay, made a collage of other artists lyrics and then claimed them as my own while simultaneously proclaiming I'm the best rapper alive. Typical Hov style right there. But hey, like you said, it doesn't matter where the lyrics came from. If they're good it makes me good too. Shit, I must be the best rapper ever 'cause I can equally match any rap verse ever written by anyone.
@PotentThorn Don't justify stealing. Fuck all you niggas with lies Don't you see I'm the best rapper alive? Jay-Z is gettin gunned up and clapped quick how much of biggies rhymes are gonna come out his fat lips? im so wavy, too hardcore to be a jay-z all up in your ears like them fuckin dre beats no one on the corners got swagger like you cause no one on the corners fuckin 42 when jay talks, hes just blowin shit, innapropriate jay-z went from sellin crack to smokin it
Expressing your feelings for killing infants isn't cool just because it's different (Tech N9ne). Promoting rape and suicide to the youth isn't cool just because it's different (Tyler, the Creator).
Acting like a serial killer out of an asylum isn't cool just because it's different, especially when you were a Disney Channel star as a kid (Hopsin).
And rapping like Mickey Mouse isn't cool because it's different either (SwizZz).
@riariasesG hopsin aint bad he has some deep raps and he was on the disney channel because he got the chance to make money.. and he doesn't portray himself as a serial killer
@riariasesG Fuck that man, if the songs good then it's good. Who cares about the background story. I hate it when people can't just like music for what it is, music.
@PotentThorn Music is a fucking art form it is missing something when the lyrics aren't original, to be honest i have heard some sick jay songs but i also had not heard he steals other people lyrics, have to see if that shits true if so might build up a bias but to each there own if you can get over that fact then more power to you no need to give a fuck on anyones behalf when it comes to the internet if you wanna argue a point do it somehwere it matters.
They're just plain no good. They can't hold a subject, their vocabulary is limited, they don't even have a flow other than speaking really fast and connecting mostly one syllable words like they're straight out of preschool, and subject matter is everything.
I hate to pull this out but Justin Bieber is a crap artist, even though his lyrics aren't bad (for the pop genre) and he has a versatile voice. It's his subject matter that people hate him for.
Those are some of my favorite rappers right now. They're all lyrically above just about everybody signed to a label. There are few commercial rap artists I like. J. Cole, Drake, some Li'l Wayne songs for the beats (not the lyrics) and some others.

@riariases real hip hop is people expressing themselves to the beat. so dont go hating on people who put themselves out there and do something different. fuck lil wayne
Stealing from people ain't respecting. And Mos Def is DEF not on a higher platform than everyone. Nas (see anything from Illmatic), Elzhi (see anything from the Illmatic remake Elmatic, AZ, Moka Only (real underground artist from Vancouver, BC. check It Don't Matter), Dead Prez (check Hip Hop) Otis "Black Shark" Eskabel (very underground from Toronto. check his Li'l Wayne Cannon remake), Cashew (from Edmonton. check Voice of the Northside) and Kendrick Lamar (check Hiii Power).
And look at their relationship now. Jay is shitting on Biggie in his grave and stealing the deceased mans artwork. If we both drive through the same car wash, does that entitle me to be able to steal your car and get away with it? So what makes you think that just because Jay and Biggie went through the same experiences, Jay-Z is allowed to steal Biggies work?
@riariases ehh its an industry. not saying its cool but alot of people in his shoes prolly would too. i kinda think hes just respecting him in his own way i dunno. mos is on a whole different plateau then anyone anyways.
Plagiarists always call their stolen work "inspired". I just didn't know inspired lyrics means copying lines word for word, just substituting verbs.
If I said this was "food for thought, bitch" and then you said this was "food for the mind, bitch", does that mean you didn't copy me? Now eat up because your mind is starved after feasting on all of Jay-Z's crumbs leftover from Biggie.
@riariases jay z and biggie were tight though and had a very similar story to project aswell, so along with being inspired by biggie he was inspired by similar events and a similar struggle
...guys cars, but you would just say they're you're moms friends. That's what Jay-Z fans do. Jay-Z is their mom, their role-model and they don't want their role-models image tarnished, so they lie to themselves in order to maintain an innocense of their hero. Jay-Z fans are just children with a whore mother.
Imagine if we knew eachother for all of our lives. Now imagine if I was always calling your mother a prostitute and a whore because she would hang out on the street corner with other scantilly dressed women, but you would just say it's just your mom hanging with her friends and smoking. Now imagine if I caught her in the act and one day brought over some pictures of her getting into various...
Mos Def, Lupe Fiasco, Nas, Talib Kweli, Common, Hi-Tek, Jurassic 5,The Roots, Dilated Peoples, Fat Jon The Ample Soul Physician, Five Deez, Joell Ortiz, Jay Electronica, Del Tha Funkee Homosapien, Kero One, Loot Pack, MF DOOM,Diverse,GANGSTARR, DJ Shadow, DJ Krush, Rakim, J-LIve, CYNE, People Under The Stairs, Surreal & The Sound Providers, Nujabes, Deltron 3030, Camp Lo, Big L, Big Pun, Classified, Aesop Rock, Atmosphere, Mobb Deep, Blue Scholars, Jedi Mind Tricks,TOKIMONSTA, Dilated Peoples
What he's done for hip hop culture? Jay-Z is a thief. Listen to "I'm So Wavy" by The Game, Swagger Jacker by Cam'Ron or Ether by Nas. They all expose Jay-Z for what he is. A snake that should just be a blood stain on the bottom of Notorious B.I.G.'s boots. Ever wonder why Jay-Z's album sales and popularity drastically dropped so suddenly? Because there aren't any more Biggie rhymes for him left to steal.
@riariases lol calm down man, Jay Z is not my favorite emcee but you must admit that he made very good tape, Heart of city, Encore,Dead President II,Hard Knock Life.. and sometimes when you call a singer a thief, in most of cases he is inspired and influenced by another emcee's style.. ( sorry for my english if i made mistakes)
@riariases I didn't believe it at first but there are videos on youtube that show that he did steal Biggie's lyrics. How could no one notice? I didn't really know anything about Biggie back then so I wouldn't know.
You're all ignorant if you think Jay-Z doesn't belong in that class. Just because he is very mainstream, don't forget where he came from and what he has done for the hip hop culture. Reasonable Doubt, Blueprint and the Black Album will go down as classics. He is a hip hop legend to those veterans who understand is.
I know everyone write stuff like this, but Im just gonna write it any way because I feel at least one person will read it.
Im a young rapper whos just trying to take Hip Hop outta the club to take it back to the streets.
Im different to other rappers, Im not about bling, money and other fancy shit, Im all about flow, lyrics and delivery. Check me out I can prove Im not like 95% of todays wack rappers.
If anyone who reads this could press the THUMBS UP so more people can see this. Thanks
Now This Is Hip Hop.. I come from Madagascar, and I've recently discovered a video that you'll probably love /watch?v=DPm_S14hMMs LMFAO, it is in Frensh
oh love love this and thanks for posting entire lyrics the first time i could rhyme thru knowing the full lyrics, that was so exciting even though its a decade old
Well I'm tired of people commenting and saying Lil Wayne is an accomplished lyricist when he's just use broken metaphors and punchlines when he rap. It's fucking annoying, that's why HE"S A RAPPER and NOT AN EMCEE REPRESENTING HIP HOP. I mean there is a difference between rap and hip hop...perhaps some people need to follow the art from it's origin and see how the styles of hip/hop and rap are totally different and quit comparing Wayne to true lyricists when he's just another club rapper
It’s so annoying when I mention old school and all people think about is Big and Pac I mean there alright and all put itz not all about them Mos Def and Nas Common all these great rappers being over shadowed by two people
@dabronxkid360 They're dope. We need to appreciate EVERYONE to understand hip hop as a movement. From Biggie, to Tribe Called Quest, to Nas, to Outkast. ALL of it, underground and mainstream.
well I do agree that wayne or any type of "rap-pop" should be bashed cause he is part of this whole new generation that is "killing" rap
because of ppl like wayne there are lots of noobs who dont know what is rap cause they are influenced by everyone and there's no way for them to know real rap artists so the more we bash them, the more the chances are of someone learning about real rap
I agree wayne shouldn't get bashed, but we do need to establish that music like Mos Def, Fuze the Mc , Talib , and Jay-Z are in a whole nother league of creativity and talent .
@jjluffsme Another narrow minded prick. Reasonable Doubt, Black Album >>> the capacity your mind can cater. He is one of the most lyrical MCs to touch a mic ever.
@jjluffsme haha calm down, i am not a Jay-Z fan but you must admit that he has made few dope songs (Heart Of City,Encore,Dead President II,Hard Knock Life..) The 90's Joy-Z was hip hop
I'm not a big fan of rap music but I have huge respect for Mos Def and everything he represents. To me it feels like he's an intelligent person and unlike many other rappers he really has a message in his lyrics. Great song this one and good album!
Do people really not like this? I feel bad for ya son (insert "...ain't one" reference.) But I expect nothing more than arguments on Youtube. Oh well. Mos is amazing and I'd like to chill with him one day.
Hip-hop is a different class of music than rap...first and foremost the message. Hip-hop is not dead, nor is anything happening to it. Underground is where it's been all along......underground. ...guys cars, but you would just say they're you're moms friends.

@Mylifedecoded
Because there aren't any more Biggie rhymes for him left to steal.
riariases 2 months ago
@riariases lol calm down man, Jay Z is not my favorite emcee but you must admit that he made very good tape, Heart of city, Encore,Dead President II,Hard Knock Life.. and sometimes when you call a singer a thief, in most of cases he is inspired and influenced by another emcee's style.. ( sorry for my english if i made mistakes)
maximerjb 2 months ago
@maximerjb right on man, not a jay z fan myself but dead president II to this day is one of my fav hip hop tracks
pepeycholo 2 months ago
@riariases I didn't believe it at first but there are videos on youtube that show that he did steal Biggie's lyrics. How could no one notice? I didn't really know anything about Biggie back then so I wouldn't know.
GreasemonkeyCGI 2 months ago
You're all ignorant if you think Jay-Z doesn't belong in that class. Just because he is very mainstream, don't forget where he came from and what he has done for the hip hop culture. Reasonable Doubt, Blueprint and the Black Album will go down as classics. He is a hip hop legend to those veterans who understand is.
As will Mos Def. One of my favourite rappers.

@dabronxkid360 They're dope. We need to appreciate EVERYONE to understand hip hop as a movement. From Biggie, to Tribe Called Quest, to Nas, to Outkast. ALL of it, underground and mainstream.

@dabronxkid360 i agree. only cuz they had their feud and died early, people started worshiping them like total rap gods

well I do agree that wayne or any type of "rap-pop" should be bashed cause he is part of this whole new generation that is "killing" rap
because of ppl like wayne there are lots of noobs who dont know what is rap cause they are influenced by everyone and there's no way for them to know real rap artists so the more we bash them, the more the chances are of someone learning about real rap
