Thinking of buying to cut pinewood derby cars for cub scouts. Block is 1.75" wide and it appears max cut is listed as 1.5". It's very soft pine - would it be worth trying the Bladerunner, or would a band saw or scroll saw be a better purchase?
@pptgtool Thank your for the reply - your experience with the machine is of greater value than the Rockwell customer service who could only say "Capacity is 1.5 inches" ... meanwhile the pinewood derby block is 1.75"... thanks again.
@TheBigD That is usually true that gloves are a bad idea however I believe the gloves he is wearing are specifically designed for working with saws. The fibers tear loose and bind up the saw. They were first made for chainsaws. They actually protect your hands.
thanks for an informative review, I really enjoyed seeing this thing in action. knowing that you can cut heavy material as well as the light stuff is good to know. that circle cutter looks looks like a pretty handy thing to have too. this is now on my want list.

@Gibblestein The Blade Runner will work perfect for Pinewood Derby cars, it even says so on the Rockwell website.

how is it with hardwoods? i cut some maple on my makita miter saw and i could tell the saw was trying a bit even with a 100 tooth blade

@sirgreggins8824 Works good. Just need a sharp blade and move slower than soft woods.

According to rockwell, you aren't setting the presure foot properly.

With the arm it looks like you could only work with very small pieces of material.

@PandawdyBob That is the one downside to this.

Never wear gloves with power tools, you may learn the hard way. A lot higher risk of catching your glove on the blade and pulling your hand in.

@pptgtool How thin was the sheet metal? Rather, how thick do you think it could cut?
