Dude, it's quite hard 2 block a spinning back or hook kick.. watever it was. However a gud tech. 2 avoid being hook or back kicked(spinning) is 2 simply give a slight pushing kick near the bottocks @ d coxys.. Tkd Warriors jus try it n work it out:)
AND in TKD too, we aim through the target, but differently than in Muay Thai. Because we contract the knee more, we aim through the target with the thigh, not the whole leg. While in Muay Thai, you don't contract your knee while kicking as much, which causes you to spin around if you miss. If you contract the knee more, you may lose some power, but you can keep your balance better.
I apologize for my bad English and hope that this would make at least some sense. :P
you don't lose power, if done properly you gain power.
our power comes from the rotation of the body, with the twist of hips, and the snap of the leg all working in unison.
People get confused and think tkd kicks are weaker. Thats because our opponents are moving very rapidly while being kicked, rolling with the hit. Also, the visual of the strike is hindered by the hogu and uniform.
anyone who has fought in olympic circut tkd knows a body shot is no joke.
I've been doing TKD only a year, but I can try commenting something too... The snap (I guess you mean the extending of the knee) is used basically in every kick in TKD, except in hook kicks and the axe kick (and half moon kicks). If you use basic logic, you get it that kicking with a straight leg isn't as efficient as when using the knee too.
If you thought that the knee would be extended after the thigh stops moving, then you're wrong. To be continued...
From my knowledge, the snap that tkd uses in wtf is to help make a loud sound on impact to improve the chances of the judge registering a score. I believe a swinging kick like in muay thai where the shin hits your body would do more damage than an extremely fast snap from the instep of the foot. Aiming to kick through your opponent instead of just aiming to snap at the point of contact would be more effective in a fight. But in the end, wtf tkd is just a sport, not fighting.
Personally, i think muay thai is harder, more dangerous than tkd. you can use elbows and knees, and hits to the shin can be brushed off, but the bottom line is that all of the time, it is the practitioner who wins the fight, not the art itself.
now that is good fucking sportsmanship right there. i was in a tkdtourny and after one match, a little kid went up to the other coach to shake his hand and the coach walked off cuz he lost.
in responce to the below commenter. There guard isn't needed in this style of Tae Kwon-Do. This is WTF where leg techniques only. Many people base their opinion of TKD on WTF which leads them to believe that TKD is in.effective. Complete opposite story.
You absolutely need to know how to move your hands. People should watch some K-! to see why. Kicks are a great complement to punches, but kicks are risky for you can lose balance in the process. You need to know how to defend once the opponent moves in. If you dont want to learn how to punch, then learn how to hit with your knee but it is essential that you atleast know how to keep a good guard, not a guard like the one used by these guys, their hands are way low.
"TKD may not start out harder than Muay Thai but with training you develop a power Thai boxers will never have." All depends on the practioner and how hard he or she works you fucking idiot.
This video is too glitchy to make out anything. One second the guy is standing the next he's falling over. The heel kick might have landed square on a presssure point on the jaw, but from the look of it, it was not executed fully.
I don't like Muay Thai because I have seen too many kicks resulting in a miss and a delay due to an unstable recovery from missed kick. In TKD if you loss balance after a kick you are just asking to be KO'd. An I know TKD may not start out harder than Muay Thai but with training you develop a power Thai boxers will never have. Sounds corner but true.
dudes...snapping makes a harder contact than swinging!!! just think..if u swung ur leg at an opponent in the stomach, would it hurt more than snapping ur leg and catching them?! swinging is sluggish and so it doesnt hit as hard...tae kwon do is fast so it hits harder!! when i first did tae kwon do, i swung...it didnt hit as hard as snapping...idiots
hahaha, your telling me i dont fight!!! if you really fought you would know that you never want to keep your hands down like in WTF TKD, how are you going to say he would still be knocked out if he blocked it??? with snappy TKD kicks like that, you cant break through a persons gaurd, with a hard chambered kick you can break through the gaurd, but with a weak kick like that thats impossible.
Oh boy you really dont understand do you? First off TKD has the hardest and fastest kicking style of all MA's. Second, you can't block everything. Everyone gets hit. You act like you can block everything coming at you. No way. Even a beginner can hit a seasoned veteran. in all striking MA's you are taught to keep you hands up (well at least in my studio you are). You can not base your opinion on what you see in a Point Sparring Sport that only incorportates about 10% of TKD.
just saying that you should always have your hands up to protect your self, if your not doing any thing with our hands why have them down by your waist??? and TKD kicks (i do tkd) are not the hardest, they are the fastest, but MT kicks are much harder. and im just saying keeping your hands down is stupid, and you said your taught to keep your hands up, so am i, so what are we arguing about???
We agree. Just hate when I see all the people that bash TKD and they dont even know TKD. I know the sport is all flash but that is not all TKD is. We also spar with hands as well in our studio.
i know, and it is people like in this vid that give us a bad name, hopping around with there hands at there waist. I hate it, but there are alot of TKD bashers, but there are also some good TKD schools that teach TKD right. good to see another real TKDer
ur wrong. muay thai kick boxing kicks are the hardest. tkd snaps there kicks while MT swings. its like using a baseball bat and swing the fuck out of it.
