  • The band sounds awesome. I really like the television shows but didn't know about Ozzies musical talent till I saw him singing and playing guitar on a Christmas show.

  • Vincent: First solo was Boe Ashford on coronet, my dad. Next to him was Holly Humphries. Don't know the others.

  • This was originally released in 1943, at the time Ozzie was leading Red Skelton's radio show orchestra (and Harriet was his "star vocalist").

  • cool old vid! look how young ozzie is!

  • sugartotea, I was a longtime admirer of Ozzie in particular. Enterprising (his idea to do a program about the family after Red Skelton went into the service) and talented (no slouch as a singer either), the brains behind the TV show and did I hear right that he was the architect behind Rick's early success as a singer? And all looking SO laid back that he made Bing Crosby look nervous. I'm a trumpeter who leads some groups...really admire what he did.

  • would love to know the soloists in this.

  • @om4444- that's how he met my grandma, decided he needed a female vocalist and found her singing in nyc. he started a band while a law student at rutgers, which explained why his contracts were always formidable.

  • the actress /singer in "cmon get up" was not harriet. ( o and h were my grandparents). ozzie's and later rick's (my dad's) success musically was always due to how smart they were about surrounding themselves with great musicians. (ex: re: for pop- james burton)

  • @Sugartotea Sounds dumb for a 52 year old to say but I never knew your grandfather was a bandleader. Explains your dad's great voice.

  • GREAT video. Thanks, Thanks, Thanks for posting.

  • Nelson always had a fine professional outfit with good arranging.

BTW, "C'mon Get Up!" was a number he and Harriet first recorded way back in 1932.

  • David was born in 1936 and Ricky was born in 1940. Maybe Harriet left the band to stay at home and take care of her kids? They sure made a great team over the years of their marriage.

  • I guess this is what MTV would have looked like if it had been around in the '40s.

  • Thank you for posting this! Great toe tapping music.

  • Whoa!! who's the chick waking Ozzie up?? It sure as hell isn't Harriet. What was trhe old Ozzieburger up to in those early years? I think it was Thorny's old lady

  • She is Rose Ann Stevens, who was his regular singer in the late 1930'-40's after Harriet retired

  • Gee, I guess it wasn't all taking naps and Tutti Frutti Ice Cream with Ozzie after all.

  • And don't forget 'Hasty Tasty Pancakes'!

    (Ep. from 10 April 1953)

  • LOL! I remeber those pancakes. That was a great episode. It breaks my heart that only David is left.

  • Adoro ozzie, mas que banda legal. Abraços do CMB_piraju_sp_Brasil.

  • Great , Swingin'
