I live in las vegas and it seems almost every time i go out in public i run into people like this. the difference is these idiots are real, we're not on a tv show, and they are fucking everywhere.
That's why we are so terrribly British because were so terrible at complaining and so we become controlled and people make changes that we didn't advocate. It's not a good quality to have
December 31`99. I was out at a restaurant with my girlfriend and it was pretty busy. A couple at the table next to us were shouting and screaming at each other for c. half - hour. I`d had enough. So I asked them either to shut up, or leave. I got a round of applause from ever other dining couple. Then they - particularly the young vocifferous lady - vented their anger on me with a continuing roll of expletives. Haven`t seen them since !
Holy hell, I should move there...if you did half this stuff here in America you would have been shot, stabbed, beaten and/or trampled several times...
I guess it has something to do with the restaurant they went into. It was a good restaurant, so basically the customers there were upper-class people with good manners and a high level of tolerance.
If the "couple" did the same thing in some shabby restaurants with impolite or intolerant people, they'd probably got into trouble. Not everyone is so cultivated, after all.
i know a very cultivated old woman who lives in a very posh house in hampstead and has a hyphenated name and...treats people like dirt. don't confuse posh with nice, they don't always go hand-in-hand.
@white000bear I fondly remember the finest example of British tolerance. It was in World War II when the British Empire let Adolf Hitler attack Poland without a so much as an "excuse me". Intolerance can be a very good thing. Especially when it concerns unacceptable behavior...such as invading somebody's country.

Exactly.
Being brought up in a rich environment doesn't make you polite.
I know some very posh people who swear they have proper etiquette but lack the most basic skills in being nice.
