It's not a literal translation, or we would have kept shit like "Die, monster!" instead. "It's over" serves the same purpose as "Horobi yo", even if it's not a 1:1 translation.
Wow, I recognize the way the voices sound from the original rondo, even when I don't speak Japanese. The Japanese VA's really did a great job of recreating that final dialogue in Rondo...
In all fairness to the Saturn version, some of the "added" material (and I stress SOME) was actually based on deleted material from the PSX version. Three examples:
1) The Underground Garden was a "finished" version of the secret save point near the castle entrance,
2) the Half-Fairy's song (with the aid of the Lyrics Card),
3) Copper Armor (in the inverted Garden) - a monster shown in very early screenshots in EGM who never appeared in the final game, but reappeared in the Saturn game.
Lelouch Lamperouge is the main character of Code Geass - but I'm sure he meant to say Dracula's voice resembles that of Charles zi Britannia, who is indeed voiced by Norio Wakamoto :)
Nope, no lists of differences (never thought about making one of the English retranslation). The translation is indeed different, and it also offers all the stuff that was removed from the US release, like the last 2 familiars (Nose Demon and Half-Fairy).
Exactly. Id kill for a version of nocturne that left everything alone and was ONLY translated and subtitles. that would leave me my Decent Maria Renard and good voices XP lol some one has to do this.. oh and while your at it.. put rondo of blood on american Virtual console.
I'm not sure I'm following you (especially the part about Rondo). This version leaves everything exactly as it was in the original, and it's all translated and with "subtitles".
o.o Oh my god are you serious? Im sorry.,. I was being earlier.. I was referring to things that seem impossible at the moment.. Does this need an emulater? Or can it be downloaded for computer use? Oh my god I need to play this.. OH stupid question.. is Saturn Maria in this too? please tell me she is!
The Psx version doesn't miss anything, actually. All the Saturn extras are pretty weak and don't go along very well with the rest of the game. Plus, it has to many flaws I wouldn't even consider it a masterpiece, unlike the Psx version. Not even Koji Igarashi liked what KCEN did with that shabby porting.
Lol what flaws? I have watched and seen alot of videos of symphony and see more problems with that game than the Nocturn one. The saturn port is a more complete game, with two extra areas, two boss fights, All characters unlocked from the beginning, heck it even sounds better. Its possible that older systems for some run slower, but my Saturn runs the game faster than a few of my ps2 games. What flaws are you talking about anyway? I have been playing it for years, and haven't seen any.
The Saturn port is not more *complete*. The original was complete already, otherwise IGA would have added stuff with new revisions (like he did with Maria on the PSP). All the new extras don't make it more complete in any way, but quite the opposite. They are so cheap they make the game look worse instead of better.
The flaws are: noticeable slowdowns, gfx downgrades, horribly stretched sprites, some sound samples played at a wrong frequency, additional and pointless loading times.
Do you have any idea how much worse this makes the US intro to this game look? Some of the worst voice acting/diologue ended up in one of the best games in history. This, this is just fucking rad right here.
Now I am playing your P2:IS translation - it's was a great, when I've found it! Thanks A LOT!! ! I am kinda fan of Castlevania series, but not finished this one due to it looks horrible on emulator and I was waiting till I was be able to play it on PS2.. So I want to ask - what is difference between this one and real eng release? Are there really BIG diffrences? Cos I am from Ukraine and it is kinda hard to understand retran., original was simpler in language.. Should I improve it?))
A few lines might be a little more difficult to understand because we didn't use common English, but some sort of dialect from 1800. Still, it's pretty close to modern English and it shouldn't make you suffer too much with a vocabulary. Menus, on the other hand, have regular English in them so they should be just fine for you.
I found this video because I wanted to show my friend what the voices are meant to be like. But I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for the excellent retranslation - I had a lot of fun playing the game, and the end was actually pretty touching :) Keep up the good work!
Excellent! Are you planning to re-translate the REAL Monster Dictionary, too? I did most of that for a site ages ago and was highly disappointed by the piss-poor name swaps used in the US version for almost all of the monsters & weapons.
We aren't really planning anything now that the translation has been released for over a month. :p And yes, we did replace the half-assed names used by Konami US with the real ones. This is probably the only translation that has actually got right the trasliteration for ヴァルマンウェ (Val Manwë).
It was funny how the 3 Tolkien references got changed:
1. the wolf アンフアゥグリア (Anfauglir from The Silmarillion) to Warg
2. the sword オルクリスト (Orcrist from The Hobbit) to Luminus
3. the sword グラムドリング (Glamdring also from The Hobbit) to Dark Blade
For a lack of an ability to translate many of the other names, Konami USA plugged in lots of other Tolkien names, many that don't fit the descriptions. I'd love to see more videos of your patch.
Yeah, it's always been the Val Manwë ("Power of Manwë") to me. Not this "Crissaegrim" crap. Crissaegrim isn't even a sword - it's a mountain range where the giant eagles live in Lord of the Rings. See what I mean by misplaced Tolkien references...
Nice... but I think Dracula's "full" name should be arranged differently. How about "Vlad Tepes Dracula"? Since "Tepes" is, for the purposes of the game, Alucard's surname and not Romanian for "Impaler" it could still work, with Dracula being a moniker or title ("Son of the Dragon/Devil").
whoa. oops, i didn't realise the palette looked so different on a hd monitor. didn't play sotn on it yet.
still, i was talking of the one that uses 0,48,248 0,0,176 and 0,0,80 as blue colors as opposed to 0,96,248 0,0,248 and 0,0,96 that's hidden in f_game2.bin.
as far as i can tell it starts on 406a0 offset in that file.
I didn't much care for the PSP voice acting at all. Granted, it's pretty certain that much of the voice acting in the Playstation version of this game is wooden at best, ridiculous at worst, but I heard some of the dialogue in the PSP redub, and thought it was awful.
But the original script for this is excellent, thanks for posting it.
Nope. All spoken lines coming out of nowhere will not have subtitles. I think I know how to trigger them, but it'd be a hell of a work. Think of committing suicide: that's how much hell it is.
Waaay better than the atrocious official "translation". Of course, that was more of a localization than anything, to appease local tastes. But still, I can't believe people would prefer that. It's a fucking Japanese game, if people can't get their heads out of their asses and need everything to be americanized then sucks to be them. That Chaap poster on the gamespot forums for one. Idiot. Nobody's FORCING them to like this.
Keep up the good work, dude. This is excellent stuff.
Well, each translation has its good and bad things.
The first US dub is, well, cheesy to boot, and you get some laughs at how pathetical their conversations are. The second one has a bit more feeling in the characters voices... But THIS translation has both sentiment in the character's voices (Since they are the original Japanese ones) and loyalty to the script to boot. Thus, this one wins by miles.
Now, if only fandubbers were able to put quality voicing in this translation... But alas.
Good stuff. VERY different from both US dubbings. I definitely approve of this translation to Dracula and Richter shown here. Have you translated other bits of dialogue from this game?
The whole game is already translated, tho many things are not reinserted yet. There are also timing issues to fix, as speed and pauses in the text have to be corrected manually to match spoken dialogue.
