  • well i just hate to see all the idiots out there doing stupid illegal shit with this abnormally safe product. By putting stuff on, under, in or around this stuff is highly stupid and constitutes making a bomb. If you can see it,it can see you. just be safe man,

  • @534gah - Thanks for the advice. As an ignorant-but-normally-law-abiding citizen, I'll be sure to turn myself in to the ATF as soon as I can figure out how to operate my telephone. I would really hate to ruin anything for all of the REAL target shooters out there. I sincerely apologize. By the way, I had to listen really carefully to your post - as it was hard to hear you all the way up there on your horse... you should yell louder next time.

  • the moth prolly wont up like wtf!!

  • Where does everyone get powdered aluminum? And can't powdered aluminum be set off from static discharge? Or is that just when mixed with an oxidizer? It's been awhile :/

  • The firecrackers would work just fine. Just substitute diesel fuel for the aluminum powder. Before you do that be sure to increase your life insurance substantially.

  • I wonder if NASA is still wondering how a bowling pin is orbiting the earth?

  • Poor moth :(

  • A white moth? Oh My God... You have released 'THE WHITE MOTH' !!!

  • who would be safe with tannerite???? 100 pounds and a car should be safe enough haha your over protected with it

  • In the end i believe it all comes down to friction and heat. If you shoot the ammonium nitrate without the aluminum powder nothing happens. With the aluminum powder, the bullet rubs the powder causing excessive heat that takes a portion of the ammonium nitrate to its combustion point in an instant starting a chain reaction making a big boom. Try mixing in a litte magnesium powder. the powder can ignite as low as 800 degrees f and burns around 2800 degrees C maybe enough to ignite tannerite

  • More like "Black better the tannerite pipe bomb"

  • Eventually you will kill or hurt someone doing what you are doing. I like shooting tannerite and don’t want someone screwing it up for me. Tannerite detonates and you can’t harness the power of a detonation for projectiles. It will fragment the metal tube you placed it in. The shrapnel could have easily hit someone and seriously wounded or killed them. Also don't rely on cannon fuse, I know the firecrackers didn't work but I have seen defective fuse burn instantaneously.

  • Attention PETA: No moths were hurt during the production of this video!

  • great video you've got some fine building skills there mate

  • Ok,ok you hade a lot of fun that day. Proved what?

  • best part of the video was @ 4:29 otherwise completely pointless

  • That was an allsome video thank's for shareing!

  • it may be a weak one, but it fits the standard definition. It has proved to work for me in a few applications.

  • Im not overly impressed, but this has given me a couple ideas. One thing you may want to try if you get the chance before me is using the end of a model rocket engine. its the cheapest legitimate blasting cap I can think of . You would just need to use the very end of it otherwise youd have a rocket on your hands. (done that too, just without tannerite.)

Take a look at my videos for a little fun with tannerite. Nothing really special tho.

  • @woodsbuggy67 A model rocket? you kidding? do you even know what a blasting cap is?

  • @woodsbuggy67 A model rocket igniter only provides heat, not inertial energy. Heat will not ignite tannerite. Firecrackers a legit idea however. I thought only a blasting cap or rifle round would set it off. Nice energy transfer experiment.

  • @woodsbuggy67 Read it again and saw you said engine not igniter. But again it is a shaped charge with not much velocity. perhaps the ejection charge in the engine could do it? It is a flash powder type. Only one way to tell for sure...bury a rocket engine in tannerite!

  • next time use a booster.

  • Congrats on your pipebomb...

  • Respond to this video... it was the tape that blocked the passfire, masking tape in the sun make the sticky stuff gooey paper tape should do. get yourself a pack of e-matches and fire it remotely . HELUVA bang though ! aloha

  • @oahuguy Thanks for the tip! I considered using rocket ignitors (left over from my model rocket days)... but didn't think it would set off the Tannerite. I'll try that with some black powder next time. Great idea!!!

  • Wow, I'm amazed by how much negative energy is floating around on the internet. This isn't supposed to be a serious mortar... nor is it supposed to be a serious scientific experiment of any kind. I'm just having fun with Tannerite (at a safe distance). Relax people... it's just YouTube.

  • Some people are really stupid. Good way to kill yourself. Why didn't you just use some 2FA BP? That way your mortar would have fired and NOT exploded.

  • lame pipe bomb,not a mortar

  • you do realise how stupid that was... pity a piece of shrapnel didnt cut your face up...

  • LMAO @ the firecrackers!!

So did you not read the instructions?????

They clearly state that Tannerite CANNOT be set off with anything but a high caliber rifle.

  • @murdkipz , yeah, I saw the video and read the instructions. Only a fool would think that there's something magical about a really fast piece of lead that would make it the only way to ignite a binary. This is a matter of energy transfer; I wanted to know how much (or little) energy is required to start the reaction. Obviously, the Tannerite explosion is enough to ignite more Tannerite, otherwise there wouldn't be an explosion. By the way, it's "high velocity" not "high caliber".

  • @Sphynckter only a fool would think firecrackers are blasting caps

  • @MlkePortnoy - I admit that I am a fool. But seeing as how I'm now I've got the attention of an obviously intellectual being... could you please tell me how much energy (and at what time/transfer rate) is required to ignite this stuff? I'm such an idiot... I started by slamming rocks together, but didn't record that because the camera was too difficult to operate. Thanks for your help, Mike.

  • @Sphynckter a basting cap made of hmtd will work make enough to fill a AAA battery and a long thick fuse seal with wax but hmtd must not contact the metal

this is a good fuse and dont use Tannerite to fire a mortar use blackpowder or pyrodex 1 dram is good find info on ragnar beson's mortars

and making blasting caps are illegal

  • @m6dm90 wrong not even a blasting cap will detonate tannerite, you need a secondary aswell as a cap to have the cap set off the secondary to set off the tannerite, explosives are intresting

  • @williepie yes it will the AL sensitizes the mix if it was just AN it would need a tnt booster

ANNM and 6oz of AL gives you a det vel of 26,000fps

  • @m6dm90 you cant detonate pure ammonium nitrate with a cap and a booster you need a catalyst like al or fuel oil, and trust me tannerite wont detonate with a blasting cap even when mixed, you need a booster to set off an/al

  • @williepie than show it show the differences between ANFO with a cap with and without tnt booster confined and unconfined and do the same with AN/Al and of AN/NM with AL with a video with valid scientific data

if you can shoot it and it blows up a blasting cap should be sufficient

    the al is the catalyst

  • @m6dm90 i know what im talking about buddy, i dont feel like risking going to prison just to proove some guy on the internet wrong

  • @williepie iam sorry i thought i lived in America

and you most likely do not have a license but my grandfather does

  • @m6dm90 its not illegal to have knowledge about explosives, i probably know more then most demolition people i know the chemistry behind them aswell

  • @williepie then show it

  • @m6dm90 i dont feel like risking going to jail for 10 years or synthesizing a primary explosive, theres a reason why its illegal its dangerous as hell

  • @williepie you'll talk the talk but you wont walk the walk

go play your computer games and shut your mouth.

and btw it not illegal to show data on how explosive work or

talk about how to set charges

  • @m6dm90 ive been young and stupid before, i know what im talking about but i havent messsed with that stuff in years though, oh yeah i dont play video games anymore

  • @Sphynckter 2000' per second. I'm not sure how much energy that really is but I'm sure someone knows.

  • @murdkipz Yeah thats a lie it can be set off by blasting caps

  • @murdkipz Can it be set off with a hammer? (small amount)? Just wondering, honest question.

  • all you did was blow a black pipe up.

  • @JenkyBoom - thank you for clarifying what was already clearly stated in the video. And thanks for watching it!

  • @Sphynckter it was a black pipe. big deal. 7:20 of my life i wull never get back.

  • Ok... that was pretty entertaining. My favorite is tossing those targets in the pond and blasting away... sploosh :)
