Guys calm down. This is maybe a Su33 with the external look of a F-14 (MOD) but landing in Lock On isn't that easwy anyway on a carrier. Despite of that he is not using realistic settings. That "F-14" crashlanded :) Want a realistic F-14 and a carrier - look at "Dino Cattaneo's" site for FSX!

@beserker5 Then you do it, and tell me how easy it is. it's actually extremely difficult to do this, and dont call flight simulators games. because they are not that different from what real combat pilots use to train themselves, maybe not lockon. But deffinetly a advanced version of Falcon 4.0. which is a combat flight simulation.

At the speed that simulation was runnig a 5yo could have landed it. Try it in rain and fog and a pitching deck at speed. Beats the hell out of any sim out there

I am, SEL fixed-wing and SEL rotor. I've never been in an F-14. My comment was simply speaking to the huge difference between a simulator and the real thing. As accurate as the physics may be, it will never match what you feel and how you react to situations when you're the pilot of real aircraft.

Well here - Lock on doesn't have flyable F-14, but you can make ai to land F-14 to a carrier and watch it from outside.

Looking from inside (thru HUD), it's acctualy Su-33 landing on a Russian carrier. Now, either this player had some patch to combine the F-14 (outside look) with the acctualy flyable Su-33 OR it's simply edited F-14 landing by cpu and Su-33 landing by player and put together to apear as one thing. Nice vid in any case!

Lockon is a very deep shit !... You have to mod it to have a real in game exp... And LO don't use you graphics card and just use your processor,... IN fact, as soon as a new real combat flight sim is availab le, I move to it. Eagles Dynamics are just russians vampires

Alphayear stands corrected, I agree it's an F-14. What threw me is the opening introductory screen that showed a cameo image of what looked like an F-18 because the vertical stabilizers had that V-shape. and the F-14's are straight up. Sorry. I didn't mean to look stupid. My bad.

You have to choose a carrierable aircraft, the Su-33 is the one and only by default in LO. If you want to perform carrier landing with another plane, you have to use a mod whichi will replace the Su-33 by another 3D model.

Notice that you have to press ctrl+G to get the arrest hook.

Ehh..next time focus on that "meatball". Keep it green and your altitude correct and you should be good to go. Since you are using the Su33, the ILS will only get you so far. About 1/2 of a mile throw that shit out the window and use your eyes.

In this case you came in too "flat" and too fast. Your HUD read 280 I believe, which could've been reduced greatly. Once you get your speed lowered, nose up and keep fluttering the power. Go full burners when you hit the deck, try for 3 wire.

No..it's not okay. First off, you aim for the third wire, not the second. Catch the first and you'll be speaking to the LSO afterward, probably the admiral if it's happened before. Catch the first wire and you're close to crashing a 40 million dollar plane into the back of a boat.

I know it's a game, I lead an F-14 squadron in it and we practice these landings all the time. Half the stuff that happens we would be dead. Likewise, half the stuff that we crash during shouldn't be so deadly. It's a fun game, keep at it.

As the saying goes, any landing you walk away from is a good landing, but if you're baggin 1-wire traps consistantly you're askin for trouble. The higher-ups will take notice and make sure you get your stuff together because its very risky bussiness .

The end of the carrier is not far from that first wire and if you're putting your hook, at best, right on the 1 wire, your rear gear is planting down not far from there. Theres very little room for error on a 1-wire trap.

#3 wire is a perfect grade and if you got the skills to hit the first wire you need to use those skills and hit the third.

Word of advice, Mr. "virtual tomcatter": refer to aircraft speed in knots, not mph. That way you won't sound like a know-nothing, painfully-obvious-that-you're-­not-a-pilot dumbass, which you are by the way. That actually almost happened once during WWII, when carriers were really new. A Japanese flight tried to land on an American carrier and no one noticed except the skipper on one battleship who opened fire on them. An Admiral radioed him to stop firing on friendly aircraft, but when the fleet turned their lights on the aircraft, they realized that they were, in fact, Zeros and all the guns opened up, but the flight scattered.

Of course, this could never happen now, since we have radar.
