it's not like a "uniform", his "Fashion", is like post-Cindy Lauper ...think about (think Woodstock 1994) Punk Rock is about doing things u wanna do, because u want to... IT'S ABOUT EXPRESSING, "I COULDN'T GIVE LESS OF A FUCK WHAT ANYONE/EVERYONE THINKS ABOUT YOU IN ANY WAY YOU CAN SAY IT... most Punks end up in this Elitist Punk sorta "You're not REAL punk" attitude & that's stupid
Now people just throw some patches on their clothes, dyes their hair some random colour and wears a couple safety pins and all of a sudden someone calls them a punk. Thats such crap. to all those true punks out there, stay true to your beliefs, and dont let a bunch of posers tell you whats normal or “politically correct”.
@Ohjorjor lol who are you to say someone is not punk? Are you going to judge them by what they wear, what they listen to or what movies they watch. You being a true punk and all I would guess you know the rules.
You get all these trendy-ass posers nowadays, who think wearing tartan jeans and a leather jacket will make them oh-so-punk. It's stupid. I wear what I like and have my hair how I like, not what 'punk' tells me I have to be.
I'm still a DIY freak, even if it's considered fashion. I like altering my clothes and wearing my hair in a mohawk, it has nothing to do with being more or less punk rock, or looking a certain "uniform" way, it has to do with personal taste. I think what you believe in is what makes you punk rock. It could be anything from veganism to anarchism to nihilism to communism, it doesn't really matter, the music and the mindset are what connects a punk to another punk, not what they're wearing.
Not necessarily. I can't stand bands like Anti-Flag or The Vandals, that doesn't make me any more or less punk than I was before. Having your own opinions is more important than fitting some bill created by people who do everything they do for those imaginary punk rock points.
I don't hate ALL punk musicians, there are just some that I don't like, and those include the Sex Pistols and the Ramones. You don't have to like all punk music to be a punk.
of course not the music. being a punk has nothing to do with the music you like.
But i just mean that a punk would like the musicians. of course sex pistols cheated and that sucks but i dont mean the music. i mean the persons n the band.
@jasall18 respect for talentless people who write bad lyrics and all dress the same? i cannot respect mindless conformity, even if it's in the name of "difference"
rebellion is a state of mind, true dat. But I mean, you can still define punk or rebellion. If you like certain clothes then get them. "Punk" clothes don't make the punk, but everyone is and should be able to get what they like if they have the chance, weather it be hot topic or gap. How people dress is how they like it. That shouldn't matter too much. That made no sense
u miss the point. all "punks" dress like "punks", i.e. its fashion, not rebellion. (if you are following a fashion, you are supporting the capitalism you claim to rebel against, and thereby you are not a rebel at all, just a self-contradictory self-righteous scenster)
Punk is a state of mind...unfortunately in order to be responsible or earn some type of living we have to subjugate ourselves to a point because the cold, slimy clasp of the system has too strong a hold on us...however some do hold on to the dream of one day working themselves back out of the systems grasp to reclaim an identity that they ever so reluctantly forced under ground...at least that's what I do so I guess that makes me a quasi-poser...fuck conformity!
but then again, what's your style? Dress like what you want to look like. That concept I think has been around since ancient times. Suit and tie, or toga?
i can c what shes saying and she has a good point its much like a uniform, but i dnt believe in clothes or acting a certain way is what defines a person as a punk rocker i think punk is abt the music. not the way a person dresses or the fact that they want to walk around not giving a fuck abt anything because thats what some people think punk is, they think it means not giving a fuck and trying to be an anarchist, but i dnt believe n that i think its abt the music
I sort of agree with this. Image is a very integral part of who we are but not on the grand scheme of things. DIY is a punk ethic meaning create your own fashion... the reason "punk" looks like a uniform now is that punk music went into the mainstream. This wasn't so in the 80's, and her dialogue and understanding is years ahead of what people understood as "punks." All fashion niches could be seen as uniforms... its more about being part of AND BEYOND your image, thats rebellion.
@Vertigopills DIY isnt creating your own fashion it's a fashion in and of itself, a form of conformity not for rejecting main stream fashion trends but for creating a sort of hegemonic "uniform of rebellion" (spikes/patches). "Punk" culture is largely the same from America to New Zealand. Actual individualism and freedom from capitalism isnt going to be found in the punk scene as well meaning as it is. It's a good spring board for more concrete/world altering positions though.
jeans and a t-shirt. get's the job done. why do people care so much about their looks? i hate people that have an attitude because they think they deserve special attention because they dress like an attention craving dumbass.
well i get what shes saying. but one fashion is what the majority of people like. punk is not liked by the majority of people. two well the thing about a uniform isnt that far from the truth. however people that are realy punk and not just dressing like tend to be rebelious. its just the way things are. the kinda of people shes critizing are called posers. lisen to Davey Destroyed the Punk Scene - anti - flag they hate people that dress punk but arent to
You can buy "punk" "goth" and "emo" clothes at any mall, right next to A&F and Old Navy, and they cost just as much, if not more than "preppy" clothes, unlike the rags old skool punks wore. So it is in fact "fashion" now. The point of this movie (or one of them) is that they were all really just posers, to some degree, as most people are. If you care more about how the world sees you than how you see the world and what you believe, then you're a poser, no matter what trend you're following.

You guys are all fuckin losers!! People have to be able to tell who believes what. You wouldn't want to go up 2 someone to be friends and have them turn out to be a fuckin asshole. I kinda get the whole uniform thing, but i think that it's a fucking bizarre uniform and no two are exactly alike so it can still represent one's individuality. The reason the punk style of dress is so weird is because they want to stand out from the rest of society. In conclusion, rebellion=act punk=/fashion!!!
Wow
