1958. Rock and Roll was more or less in it's infancy. And this was filmed at the Newport Jazz Festival, so the crowd who attended these shows were mostly upper middle class whites from Connecticut, New York and Boston who were probably more into jazz and mainstream music than this new art form. Still, the people were hip enough to know who Chuck Berry was and I see many of them dancing around looking like they were getting into it.
I just don't care what anyone else says, in my opinion there's never been anyone who is more the quintessential rock and roller than the incomparable Chuck Berry and there never will be. I wish I'd seen him when this was recorded but it was the year I was born.
Great colour version, it has a lovely " red look ". It's interesting to compare this to the B&W version in how it communicates the images / lighting. Regards.
