It's admirable that Mr. Lewis direct everyone's focus to someone who surely would have but sadly, cannot experience this moment. I don't find it odd at all that he is so touched by Heath's death. In an acceptance speech at the SB Film Festival, Heath expressed such respect for his art and the people who allowed him to be able to create. It brings a smile to my face that Mr. Lewis, possibly without knowing it, brought about that same exact sentiment while speaking so fondly of Heath.

Heath Ledger would be incredibly touched by DDL humble gesture. And that probably the greatest actor of all time paid tribute to him.

while i fully agree heath needs to be remembered those who say it is "disgraceful" how he only was shown for a moment in the in memoriam piece need to take into consideration other actors have died this past year and that segment was for all those actors, i felt that by putting him last, SAG was showing great respect, regardless Day Lewis earns my respect and thanks for giving Heath a tribute of his own

Daniel Day Lewis has always been the most selfless actor, to the point where he goes back into retirement over and over again, retreating to his humbler life as a cobbler of all things. Once again he deflects attention from his own amazing performance and, with utter class, places it in Heath's memory.

thank god he did that. heath's short moment in the memoriam video earlier was so short it was disgraceful and i didn't think he was going to get the proper tribute he deserved, but daniel day-lewis gave him that with this speech. one more reason why danile is so incredible.

This was beautiful. It's even more affecting to know that he didn't even know Heath in person, but took the time during his speech to dedicate his award to him. He deserved a standing ovation after that.

Being one of the top actors in the entertainment business and dedicating the award to Heath Ledger was absolutely touching, i was crying, he is so humble and yet on top of his craft. I wish him the best in the world, crossing my fingers for him come Oscar time. I LOVED Heath Ledger, he was such a quiet and fantastic actor, he left us too soon, the opening of The Dark KNight will be bittersweet.

What a beautiful and heartfelt tribute from probably the most talented actor alive to one of his respected peers. Daniel Day-Lewis is in a class all by himself. It is so apparent that he does not belong to the Hollywood scene...his raw intelligence and heartfelt emotion were palpable as he dedicated his award to Heath Ledger, whom although he had never met, he had tremendous respect for. I hope Daniel Day_Lewis stays with us for many, many more years to come.

I have such respect for Daniel and his honoring of Heath. It shows he has true character and don't let the fame of Hollywood and winning get to him. I admit I was a bit disappointed when they did the Memory tribute to all the actors who had died in the past year. It seemed like when they got to Heath, it was only a fraction of a second and that what it. It was like they hurried it up because they had to finish. Thank you Daniel you truly are a wonderful person.

I had never heard of Daniel Day-Lewis until I went to go see There Will Be Blood, which was an amazing movie. Dedicating his win to Heath only makes me respect him more. You go DD-L!

I never appreciated Daniel Day-Lewis until this moment. He is one of Hollywood's classiest actors. I also loved the way he talked about Heath instead of HIMSELF on Oprah, while many actors would have said "oh, how sad, heath, but now on to my movie..." I have a new level of respect for you, Mr. Day-Lewis. Thank you for such a moving tribute.

It's admirable that Mr. Lewis direct everyone's focus to someone who surely would have but sadly, cannot experience this moment. I don't find it odd at all that he is so touched by Heath's death. In an acceptance speech at the SB Film Festival, Heath expressed such respect for his art and the people who allowed him to be able to create. It brings a smile to my face that Mr. Lewis, possibly without knowing it, brought about that same exact sentiment while speaking so fondly of Heath.

I feel the same way, delmarre, although it sounds like Heath's passing must have hit you even harder. I feel like DDL has given everyone a gift, allowing us to come to terms with what seems like an inordinate amount of grief due to the death of a guy who most of us did not know personally.

As many other have said - DDL is class. It was an honest and beautiful speech and I admire him how he went straight out and acknowledged Heath when it seemed almost taboo to do so.
I have garnered a great respect for him these past few days and shall be consequently checking out his movies.

I hope DDL was inspired so much by Heath Ledger work that he channels that energy into making more movies and perhaps giving us greater performances in the future. That would be even more fitting tribute to Heath. And im sure Heath would also echo the same feeling.

My respect for Daniel Day-Lewis went way, way up. A decent thing to do. The man has a heart. And like he said.. the final scene in Brokeback Mountain is one of the most moving things I've seen on screen.
