Just watched "Lion of Punjab Presents" on Hulu! Very funny movie about Indian culture in the US, as well as a social commentary about the Indian community. This song is sweet too!
wtf, how is a Sikh with a shaved beard so offensive? Therez millions of sikhs who dont wear turbans and cut their hair and many of em r jus as religious as the ones with the turbans. Jus cz a person wears a turban, that doesnt make him a "good sikh". Even Guru Nanak said that more emphasis should be given to whatz on a person's INSIDE, not on their exterior appearence. Ppl who wear turbans r respected and im not putting dem down, but a sikh w/o a turban shoudn't be considered any less of a sikh
@TheWheelerOne1 I disagree. I would ask you to read the Guru's Hukams. Also, I agree that both the inside and outside need to be in tune with Sikhi. But to distort the sikh image as it has been done in this movie is very disgraceful. For those that do not have their kes (Sehjdhari - as refereed to in history) we hope they strive to reach the echelons of Sikhi as well as those that are not internally following it, but to say that it is ok is a gross misunderstanding of the basic tenants.
And the turbaned Sikh with a shaved beard is offensive too...making fun of a religious symbol. I understand it's a comedy, but could have been done in a better taste, especially since the major track is a bhangra track. And authentic bhangra is a very rigorous, difficult dance...
Btw, the 'loins' title turned me off, precisely because I'm a proud Punjabi and don't like a sexual joke being played on the whole community. I am doubtful this movie had any craze among Punjabis.
sunnybluesky - LOINS OF PUNJAB PRESENTS is releasing in the US (in NY) on Sep 12 and then in other US cities this fall. The DVD will be released once the theatrical run is completed. Thanks for your interest.
How cool is this! Makes me want to watch the movie again... after having seen it, erm, more times than I have watched any other movie. Is this available on iTunes yet? I want.

Umm, its not a joke about the community in a sexual sense. Its how Punjabis (Delhi Punjabis) atleast pronounce Lion.
