  • I haven't watched TV in years! I watch TYT instead! If only Cablevision got Current...I'd watch TV again... :(

  • Ana get rid of that necklace, girl

  • the amazing race made me want to learn about other cultures, travel and venture around the world and showed me how amazing and interesting the world is

  • I stopped in 7th grade and I have so much time...

  • Ana your 11 hours are worth it. People can get a lot from The Young Turks

  • The only thing I watch on my TV is the "mindless" NFL games and other sports leagues (MLB, NHL, NBA, etc.) ESPN is on my TV right now as I type this. I don't know anybody in my life who doesn't watch TV. It's a difficult thing to stop once you have the routine down.

  • u dont learn anything??? come on guys obviously not true..even the lowliest reality show has some value in that they give you a sense of other peoples lives & can help to foster empathy, increase tolerance for differences, etc....& the history channel, discovery, animal planet, nat geo, & even bbc are great....there's even this show called TYT on Current TV.........

  • I haven't watched tv in a few years. . its called a PC and i can see everything i want and more :)

  • I haven't watched tv since 2002, and yes it IS because of the cable bill haha

  • Comment removed

  • I watch TYT while studying!

  • tv is okay the garbage that is implanted into it such as reality tv, gossip, propaganda, materialism, false information, or nazi-like rhetoric isn't okay.

  • Reading stuff is just sitting there wasting time too. So is going to a museum. It's called art. Not all of it is good art, but not all paintings in the museum are good art. I wish people would stop treating the medium of television like it's just some idiot box.

  • 1:25-1:55 Jayar that is exactly how I allow myself to watch TV on YouTube and Hulu. Im depressed now ;)

  • Youtube is the new TV

  • Whenever the camera cuts to the crew someone is eating.

  • wow. I need to take Ana's job because I spend 15 hours out of my day reading about politics, and current events. Using all media sources. My break from it is watching informative shows like TYT XD

  • I don't have a tv, if I want to watch a show I watch it online bypass the bullshit.

  • If you think not watching tv is awesome, try not jacking off. I get so much more time in my day if I am not looking at porn. lol

  • I haven't had TV in years, it's youtube like TYT that is my distraction problem

  • I watch Netflix, that's TV.

  • I love watching TV. I'm way too lazy to find something to watch. I love just flipping through channels and getting lucky.

  • @OwlheartXx

I hate flipping through channels. I can't tell it what to do, or what to see. I prefer my shit online. so if it is a new episode and my friends want me to hang out with them. I can hang out with my friends and watch it later. I had a friend who was the opposite who would say "my show is on so I can't hang out" and we are like "WTF, its 2012 bitch get with it."

  • Guess I'm probably the only one who does watch TV. I still browse online, but just watch TV when I have nothing to do after homework and exams. (So many shows I still watch) Does it interfere with my studying? Nope. I'm comfortable studying, whether TV is on/off or people talk at the library.

  • All I watch is sports on TV and 70s television shows, ergo I am never in a rush to see a new episode.

  • I'm a senior in high school. I have not had TV for several years. I haven't missed it one bit. There's nothing but a bunch of bullshit on TV today anyway.

  • hate to say it but all of our lives are pointless spend your time with whatever

  • I don't watch TV. Not because I made a decision I just don't. I don't have cable. And I didn't want to pay 50 bucks for that dumb box so I could watch TV for an hour(maybe) a week. I do own a TV and play video games, If there are any TV shows I do like I buy just the seasons. That way I can watch them on my time without commercials.

  • The problem is is that TV can often become a routine (ie at 6pm, you must was X), and quickly you have 10-12 hours of TV you have to watch to keep up with the series. That is a major problem.

If you watch them online or using something like TiVo you can watch them whenever you have free time or want to take a break from study.

  • Sorry, but completely disagree with TYT here. TV is nothing but mindless shit nowadays, and I don't need it to keep my sanity. In fact, I start to lose my sanity if I try to watch an insipid reality show for more than 2 minutes. Most of the shows I watch online can't even be found on television, so sorry Jayar, but it aint the same thing. In general, TV is just obsolete. Video games, YouTube, Netflix--all of it is far more worth your time.

  • Who watches TV anymore... video games, youtube videos, books, music... TV is obsolete unless you're watching sports, you can just torrent your favorite series.

  • I should stop watching TYT right now. Takes way too much time.

  • I never had TV during my entire degree.

  • The only time I watch TV is when I occasionally turn my head towards it when I'm waiting for a video to load on my computer or a page to load. lol.

  • mindless garbage is awesome? ...... americans

Ana it doesnt keep you sane, it keeps you empty. Do something, be with a loved one.. do ..freakin something, mindless garbage is not happyness.... huh.. americans

  • TV is a dying medium. Nobody's addicted to it anymore. Internet addiction is a much, MUCH bigger problem for most people.

  • I have not watched television for years. I only watch youtube when I need news / cartoons etc

  • Are they talking about watching tv or doing drugs?

  • It all goes back to self control. I don't really watch TV as much as I used to when I was younger but I watch it here and there (i.e. VH1, MTV, WWE RAW on occasions). But the internet is no different. You have FB, twitter, "mindless articles", forums, YouTube, HULU, Dailymotion, etc. So let's not sit here and act like you're being that much more productive by not watching TV.

  • Honestly I like TV better than my computer. I would go back to renting movies at the video store every Friday night, and watching TV and checking the TV guide channel in a heartbeat. People get way into their own worlds with computers, there's so much weird shit out there. I think it's better when we all connect through one thing like the TV and don't have like 8 billion weird ass things to watch on the internet.

  • TV is great. I love TV shows, there's a lot of quality stuff out there. I would be pretty sad if TV went away. I was watching PBS the other day and randomly saw this awesome thing about Billy "The Kid." I mean I never would've stumbled upon that otherwise.

  • @crayyawn

Never say never. I've come across a lot of random stuff online.

  • Wow, people are really not into watching tv or watch so little of it. Perhaps because i'm a bit a recluse, i'm a tv connoisseur, not trying to sound poncy but i love tv, so many great memories of sitting watching my favourite shows from primary and high school, and into my uni years. Unlike the average coach potato, i'm a active engaged viewer, i always come away with something i watch, or just chilling out. Don't just sit being a passive viewer, enrich your tv viewing.

  • People don't watch TV anymore.

  • T.V sucks dick I swear to budda I can go 2 weeks without watching that shit.

    The computer on another hand.............

  • Fuck TV, computer Porn distracts me from homework though...

  • That happened to me. I did not need if after that year. I from now do not. I just watch youtube. I mostly watch it for the news. I just go online and read articles.

  • People who still have televisions and cable/satellite are like people who still have land line phones. Invest in a nice monitor instead.

No matter how many channels you can get via television, the internet just destroys them in terms of unpirated, quality content on demand at a more reasonable price.

  • I haven't watched _TV_ for 6 or 7 years now i think (other than when visiting people who do).

I consume all content on my computer, which frankly has a better screen that almost all televisions (27", 2560x1440, H-IPS (UltraSharp )). I do watch series and films, but i do so on my schedule, and often multi-task it with eating, or while some rendering or compiling is going on ine the background.

I've also become almost intolerant of ads and commercials since i use ad-block, flash-block, no-script.

  • Funny Lucas called History Channel as decent stuff.

  • true that!

  • fuck this crap ana get a grip.

  • Anahiet, great usage of your masters of waste of time.

  • Theres...the history channel...and jesus thinks: dont be stupid at 2:18

  • YEAH RIGHT! Try Minecraft...

  • really.... TV? nobody under 30 watches TV anymore, everyone watches TV on the internet... you know what go without internet instead...

  • I don't watch too much tv certanly not 4 hours I mostly watch CNN and I delve into a few reality shows

  • 2:24 Jesus is cracking me up...

  • I watch all my tv programs online now. less advertising, my own schedule, and just way more convenient.

  • who needs tv's when you have pc's

  • listen up. i was home-schooled until 7th grade and i had some of the best grade's in school AND i never sat down and learned or did anything like that for those home-schooled year's and i watched T.V. for all that learning. so the point is that is matter's what you watch like discovery, history, military, and channel's like that. so do not hate on television so much

  • The only channels I watch on TV are The Food Network, ABC (mainly I watch Shark Tank and Modern Family), and Nicktoons. However these are all on rare occasions.

  • TYT is my TV.

  • lol.. people still watch TV?

  • @midgetman433 What's wrong with that? People like watching TV, or watching stuff online. Either way, if you prefer one or the other, that's fine.

  • As a college student, I only watch 2 TV series (online) & the rest of the stuff I watch is TYT/YouTube related...which is also online. I can definitely live without a physical television.

  • TV isn't relevant to me anymore I just spent 2 hours watching YouTube and listening to podcasts, granted they were educational things (NASA, Science Journals...ect) but I really should have just studied. I did get rid of my TV like 6 months ago too but really I found I just adopted new forms of media, but at least it isn't garbage trash (Jersey Shore or whatever is popular in main stream now) Its now mostly YouTube shows, Netflix Documentaries, and iTunes U content...guess I'm boring?

  • College Students should watch TYT instead of TV!

  • I use TV as background noise when I'm working in the other room. I simply cannot stand pure silence when I studying. Putting on the news at low volume is enough :P

  • @Rametesaima For the sake of saving energy and likely increasing the quality of the data that's reaching your ears, perhaps you should invest in internet radio/music/radio whatever.

  • If you watch discovery channel or History channel you actually get something from it !!

  • @patyos2

yeah, you get information about UFOs and pumpkin chunkin

  • @patyos2 Not really. Those stations are complete and total shit these days. Most of the programs are... Fuck you don't even need to hear this.

  • @patyos2 You haven't watched either of those channels in a while, have you?

  • no one should watch TV

  • When there are shows like Dexter, why would you watch mindless garbage anyway?

  • who else clicked this cause the chick in the thumbnail was hot?

  • the InternetKilledTelevision is in Brazil...haha see what I did there?

  • todays equivalent would be to limit or remove one's own access to the internet.

  • TV is for old people.

We have something better, called the internet.

  • @asphyxiafeeling Yeah until the government takes it down. They have already took down MegaUpload.

  • Still have mine for school but I mostly use it for videogames & netflix. Most of the shows I watch are on when I have class so I end up watching them on hulu later.

  • @SumFreshDkaf Also sports lets go orange bball number 1 in the nation!

  • I watch TV maybe an hour or two per day now, just to catch the news. I mean, the only show that I watch aside from the news is House and I come online to watch TYT everyday, but I definitely don't watch as much as I used to. And that'll probably be cut down in the Fall, when I write my senior thesis. I agree with Ana on this. You should try to balance it. But if you have a lot of work (for classes or otherwise), I think watching an hour of mindless TV makes sense. You'd go a bit crazy otherwise.

  • lol Jesus's face in the last third of the video.

  • I do everything on the computer so I guess I do it all in one.

  • LOL who the fuck actually watches TV anymore... so many garbage programs on now. Plus, what's the point when you can just filter through the garbage time filler programs by watching online?

  • Comment removed

  • @69NAWAR69 For sure! no ads and you can pause when ever you want and do more than one thing online.

  • @69NAWAR69 Clearly, you didn't even watch the clip - Jayar's point was that watching shows online is the same.. it's a senseless distinction to say you're not watching TV when you are watching the same programming on the internet.

  • @aamesxdavid When I watch online, I'm watching my favorite series. When I watch TV, I'm watching some time filler bullshit while waiting for my favorite series... No point in buying a TV anymore unless you wanna play 360 or PS3.

  • @69NAWAR69 I do cause its a pain to watch tv on a 24 in monitor and even worse tryign to get your huge heavy gaming rig moved close enough to the 50 inch tv to get the hdmi cable to reach. Then there is the constant threat of going over your bandwidth by wtchin all your shows on line. So I still watch tv and most people with a shred of common sense still do.

  • I just watch sports, news and movies.

  • The only actual TV shows I watch are from Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert. ;)

  • doesn't seem like ana does any real critical thinking to often lol

  • Also I watch TV 24/7 I currently have the TV on with Dog the Bounty Hunter while on the Internet, but it is on ESPN most of the time. TV is everywhere including school, work, anywhere besides the kitchen where you eat, clubs that play music videos, my car, and gym. The only places I go that do not have TVs on is my kitchen, parties, classes, library (where I rarely go), some gas stations, and when I run outside.

  • I watch TYT. That's my winding down show.

  • i havent had TV for the past 4 years. instead i watch torrented shows. no commercials.

  • I tried watching TV while stoned with a friend for the first time in a LONG while a few weeks ago...I swear it was almost ALL advertisements...It was fucking bull shit. Now that the internet is widely accessible, TV is for country bumpkins and lazy fucks

  • @SeriouslyPissedOff

4 minutes of commercials for every 8 minutes of TV shows.

I timed it over the winter break

  • @tarnishedmercury Who actually sits down and watches TV without a TIVO/Recorder besides sports? If I need to watch a show that goes on that day I can sit down anytime after 8 PM if on cable because HD stations work runs on Eastern Time Zone while I am in a Pacific Time Zone so I "get the show" 3 hours early. If on network I will wait till 11 PM to watch it back.

  • @tarnishedmercury Holy shit! That's ridiculous. No need for that shit at all. Especially when it's the same damn commercials over and over again. No thanks, I'm adept enough to use a computer.

  • Jesus is calling bullshit! Lol

  • Same here. I stopped watching TV since the first year of college. Haven't missed it a bit. Totally substituted it by youtube.

  • No real point in watching TV since i can get all the stuff that i want from TV like news and shows online or on bluray without watching hours of fucking commercials.

Seriously, having to sit through like a 10 minute commercial break which they always put in at vital plot points ruins the show for me.

I think the current model of TV will die out within a few decades.

  • I stopped watching TV in the middle of high school when I started to have a lot of homework. It isn't the best thing that's ever happened to me, but I'm glad I don't watch so much TV. But I do spend a shitload of time on the internet.

  • I don't watch tv. But that's mostly because I was bored of the content. Some television shows are good but I prefer to watch it online since I have the ability to watch whenever it is convenient.

  • I stopped watching TV years ago. Its great. I can download a show and watch it whenever I want. Theres only three showsinthepast 5 years that I've actually followed. Its awesome :)

  • Considering TYT has a show on current, this piece seems counter-productive.

  • Comment removed

  • stopped TV.... started the internet

  • I watch 2 or 3 TV shows a week, I spend most of my time on the PC.

  • Everyone procrastinates to a certain extend whether it's through television or computer related activities. It doesn't matter about the medium, it's whether you can restrain yourself from over indulging mindless entertainment. If you can balance your schedule with your favorite show then go again.

However, I am personally against video games as they are far worst than shows. Videos games are designed to be a 2nd girlfriend as they are so time consuming in comparison to shows.

  • Just like youtube, and facebook, and tumblr... and Internet.

  • 2:22 Jesus LOL

  • I don't think its as much the programs on the tv (although i'm sure we could argue against that too) but i think the worst part is all the commercials/propaganda!

  • I gave up watching TV, only shows I watch are purely online or have online sides (Colbert Report, Daily Show)

I'm a gamer, programmer, I run blogs, work on small animation projects. Who has time to just sit and watch TV anymore?

(These are just in my free time, rereading it over makes me sound like I do nothing all day)

  • Jayar is a dumbass, as usual. You forget the elements that make a computer much better than Television..hmmm perhaps Interactivity? The fact that you can produce things? The lack of advertisements ? TV is a disaster for most viewers. I never meet any TV watchers who can watch one or two programs then turn it off. It's always channel surfing and gawking for HOURS. ALWAYS.

  • @SeriouslyPissedOff as opposed to those who site on facebook or youtube for hours... I mean come on its facebook, your friends aren't that interesting.

I get what your saying but its all about self control and most people don't have it.

  • @JamesAColemanFan You're right, most don't. Hardly any have any self-control worth mentioning. Me included. But I'd say Facebook is a hell of a lot more productive to someone's well being than television in almost every case. Your TV can't build relationships and get you sexed. Facebook at the very least has the possibility of doing that. And I'd argue that any situation where you're using an interface for extremely long amounts of time owns the experience of watching a TV lazily.

  • @SeriouslyPissedOff I'm not all the really into social networking, seems so much effort to just see what people in all different places are doing and talking about what they're doing and posting up pictures of what they're doing. I have a facebook page, but hardly anyone comments on it or checks up on me, not much incentive to build relationships and get sexed. Maybe because i'm kind of a recluse but i enjoy watching quality tv online rather than posting updates on my day.

  • First world problems.

  • everything on TV is on internet now. even live stuff.

  • I have no idea when I last watched TV. Must have been a decade ago. That does mean I'm focused all the time.

  • Does Lucas work on TYT? Ya know, the t.v. show?

  • I have a tv in my dorm right now. Its connected to my laptop.

  • what's tv?

  • @FoxMedina lol

  • @MrHav1k Screw cable I have the internet

  • I've turned my TV on three times for Red Wings games since I started my MBA. Haven't missed a TYT, OOOOOPS.

  • I agree with Ana on that last point.

  • I don't watch TV, cuz all the shows are shit..

    24 FTW!!

  • "Then I feel anti-social and have to join them" Really are you that weak willed? A puppet much?

  • "well all you need is some self control"

K so I guess I am not watching tv then.

  • A TV? What the heck is that. LOL

  • Fuck TV. Most of it is lowest common denominator garbage. We have video games and internet now.

  • I used to watch A LOT of TV when i was in high school. Now i dont watch any tv, but the internet is just as bad of a distractor.

  • Stop watching TV? No TYT on Current?

  • I think youtube is the best option because I can watch it for hours but it includes educational channels like vsauce or smarter every day.

  • why youtube became so interesting in finals weeks ! ×_×

  • The difference between TV and hulu/streaming is that on hulu, you go watch what you really want to watch. When you sit down in front of the TV, you're very likely to end up watching something you don't even find interesting.

  • i dont really watch tv, internet is waaaay more interesting

  • LOL 2:33 the dude at the bottom is shaking his head like.. naahhh this is just bullshit ahahahah

  • Why does everything have to be "productive"? Sometimes its nice to just enjoy yourself.

  • I barely even watched TV. I was usually online, esp. on YT and Facebook. Still don't watch much TV now, esp. with the bullshit digital transition that requires you to get a stupid-ass converter box.

  • tv is dumb, stop watching it. interwebz r better

  • I actually don't watch TV at all, internet has everything

  • The only reason I still watch a tiny bit of TV is because of a few comedy shows, other than that: It's youtube all the way!

  • i wonder what's jesus job description...he's watching tv in two screens and eating chips WIN

  • i think people should be banned to watch tv... and i think people should get the death penalti if they dont think the way i think... and i would abolish freedom of speech and expresion... and i would have a dictator fascist who would control everyone... oh wait most of the things i said exists at this moment in america.. my bad!!

  • hulu=Fucking awesome. hulu plus=Fucking gay

  • The internet is like TV,Phone,Best Friend wrapped up in one ball on steroids.

  • Comment removed

  • it depends on the integrity and substance of what you are watching

  • TV dies when Youtube entered my life. TV is only good for sports and pro wrestling, because it's a bigger screen. And of course Adult Swim at night, besides that I haven't watched TV in years.

  • The History Channel sucks. How many times can you recycle the same World War II footage?

  • all i watch on tv is cartoons, thats it

  • You can control the amount of advertising you see when you're online

  • It should be obvious that the problem is not the TV, nor the Internet, but what you do with that time, and how much time you spend. People waste time watching all sorts of garbage, for hours. Sure, it's nice to have a little lightweight entertainment from time to time, but for millions of people, that's ALL they watch. Just look how dumb they come off in their online posts. They couldn't think deeply or rationalize their thoughts to save their lives. There's more to TV than "reality TV."

  • Studies show that using the computer stimulates your brain because it forces you to be interactive, while all you have to do with TV is sit and watch

  • TV is for dinosaurs.

  • for me its the internet not the tv. ever since the internet i don't watch tv anymore. i get shows and movies from torrent. watch youtube, play games, play ipod, use facebook.

  • Exactly! Self-control!
