Because if they find out that we like shows like this, then they will make more and more just like it; therefore, they will remove the stupid shows and put shows like this one in their place. Executives do this all the time and yet instead of giving us well written shows with likeable characters, they give us the bare minimum of what makes a good show and miss the point entirely. Aang is dead, Korra can't become the avatar unless the previous Avatar is dead, and it seems he died at the age of 66, much younger if you look at the other past Avartar. None of the previous Avartar characters are alive apparently in this series, we meet thier decendents such as Tenzin, Aang younger son, Also Toph grandaughter I believe. I really do hope we see flashbacks of the characters though, really want to know the fates of Usla, Auzula, ect. I hope this starts soon.

THEORY

Ursa challenges Azulon to Agni Kai. If she wins, Ozai takes the throne & Zukos saved. If she lost, she'd be banished instead of Zuko and Iroh would take the throne. She won because the strain of the battle is too much for Azulon's aging heart. BUT according to the rules, if an opponent is killed during an Agni Kai, the "winner" is banished.

Aang was 13 when the series ended, and this is 70 years later, so you might think 83, but no. Cause Korra is already 17, and she wasn't born til he died, so he died 17 years before that, which means Aang actually died at age 66.

@woodencan actually, as this is set 70 years in the future, and considering korras age (15-17) aang died around the age 65 which is relatively young even by todays standards, let alone he's the freakin avatar, who has lived past 200 years in some lives. Due to that depressing note I have decided that the legend of korra will be set 100 years after the original events. ^w^

He didn't breathe. That is the point of suspended animation. Some species on earth undergo it. They are in essence dead, but come back to life after they thaw. Their bodies are kept in perfect condition while frozen and function again once given the opportunity. Do a little research; it's quite fascinating.
