I have buddies who "know his type" enough not to. "Hiphop culture" is not as easily defined either. And I never dismissed his music, and wouldn't. As far as hiphop production goes, he's the best..ever. Speaking on a technical level that is. 9th Wonder and J.Dilla are others,who SURPASS "just technical" aspect.

On his last album with jay (n even dark twisted) he had beats from swizz, rza, pete rock but all the beats were better than what the are putting out now days.
