Are you kidding! Do see the the way the average person from Quebec drives. They're terrible. The are always in the ditch on the 401. They rarely signal their intention, they drive too fast on ice and snow(which is why they're in the ditch), the can't maintain a speed very well, and ones that do drive too slow, they can't keep it between the lines, they run red lights, they don't turn right on a red when it's clear to do so(ontario law), they drive in the left lane which is used for passing, etc.

At least it should be 6-8 inches, but you can park it closer than that if you want to and if you can, just make sure your tires aren't touching the curb. Bad drivers will rip your mirror off even if your car is touching the curb, or even on the curb. But, ideally I park my car as close as possible to the curb (depends) maybe about 2 inches from the curb. Sometimes I park on the curb. Sometimes it makes my car even.

well i think the space is for practicing purposes. As you get more confident you can decrease the space. whats important is, are her instructions correct? I'm saying that as a real question i've never parralel parked so i wondering if she is correct with her instructions(and i've been in New York city and the chances of having that much space are the same as balancing an egg on a needle tip)

dont know hows in the us, but in munich germany, or prague cz you wont find a lot whichs two metres longer than your car,when you drive a middle or upper class car.

with her her bad technique she would be lost while parking in a lot which is only about 50 centimetres longer than her car.

it is actually easier to practice w/ a car infront of ur car cuz u can get some references. my drivers ed teacher told me to line it up 1m away from the car. line up the mirrors... make 1 turn of the wheel to the left i think. then when u see the tail light 1 turn right (to make the car back straight up) then when ur 1m away from the curb full left
