  • His house is awesome, just cuz he lives there

  • The jazz tone sounds good... I guess all metal tones sound muddy direct.

  • Why can't these pro players demonstrate a straight sound on multi fx/modelers?

  • terrible sound. Alex you deserve better...

  • in the first 33 seconds of the video I swear his hands have ADD they are like jumping all over the place

  • Damn that intro is amazing Which song please??????

  • No matter whether he left Testament or not for a while, metal is sure in his vains!!!

  • What the fuck is up with that WIERD ASS BASS TONE?

  • Versatile and skillful.....could you ask for more?

  • WTF !? not only he can play metal, he can play jazz ! and JAZZ IS A FUCKING DIFFICULT GENRE, its so difficult ot feel it and befriends with the beat and fingering ! salute to alex !

  • Alex Skolnick is the best Thrash Metal Guitarist. PERIOD.

  • damn those strings on the guitar are thick :-)

  • @furlong08857 ya dude he plays either 12 gauge or 13! and he SHREDS with those huge strings.

  • @skolnick14 yeah, not many metal guitarist have a wound G string.... Like maybe.... Alex is the only one :D

  • @believer06 Paul Waggoner from Between the Buried and me does same with Dustie Waring (also from BTBAM) I use a set of twelves but I bend a lot so I can't get 13 with the wound G :P

  • @furlong08857 You'll never get any tone out of fishing line....

  • Alex Skolnick kicks ass, but that gear sounds like ass.

  • Alex o Kirk? who's the better?

  • @rallyivan1234 duh alex. listen to the new order, over the wall, and souls of black. alex's solos sound better, fit the songs better, and are WAY more technical and advanced. alex can sweep like crazy and shred like a madman. not to mention he can play almost any style. Jazz is HARD to play and alex can do it.

  • @skolnick14 That's true, thanks man!

  • He's one of the best guitarists nowadays but his sound on this video is shit...

  • he tought god how to play guitar

  • Love Skolnick but seriously what the fuck is that annoying fart sound. I HATE IT

  • Haha, in the beginning you can hear his metal roots. \m/

  • has anyone noticed the TWO ibanez tube screamers siiting on his shelf this whole time?

  • @RATHAB0B46 He uses them for his solos.

  • Alex Skolnick, the Metal God of Thrash, who plays jazz.

  • man, alex is sooooooo underrated

  • One of the most versatile Metal guitarist out there. I would rate Alex slightly higher than Chris Broderick due to his emotional phrasing

  • HE'S MY COUSIN!!

  • @1thanman123

    yeaah. and my mom.

  • what a great guitarist, Can you guys check out my guitar videos, they're not as good as this guys though.

  • I've always been an Alex Skolnick fan but this machine doesn't sound all that good. I have to also add, he is most definetely under the influence of a controlled substance. I've seen it many times, been there many times, and dude is tuned in.

  • You might wanna check band Attention Deficit if you like Alex's fusion jazz type of playing.

  • Look everyone its Yoda!

  • Alex skolnick is a master, incredible guitarist; but in my opinion that pandora thing sounds awful.

  • @nothinghappens1 I bought one and returned it the next day. It sounds like crap. Agreed about Skolnick.

  • 5.20 -5.35 zakk wyldes playing style.zakk is based on rock n roll thats why his solos are so unique..and so nice.

  • u can see the drungs on his face and movements...but hes very very good..nice imagination.:)thats what counts:)

  • his playing is porn.

  • @Metallikakka when your life is porn ...everything seems to be like it... xD

  • The PX5D sucked, bought one and returned it a week later, my cheaper POD sounded better.

Alex Skolnick is pretty awesome though.

  • i just met him

  • Thumb up if u actually dont give a damn about the PX5D....

but just wanted to watch Alex jammin!!!

  • @meridiano976 ditto

  • he's a bouncy guitar player

  • That has to be the first time I've seen him with a bass. Interesting.

  • his face creeps me out when he plays

its like he's taking a huge dump and its hurting because of the size

  • @SuperDean224 LOL!!!

  • @SuperDean224 that's metal face dude

  • it might be helpful when you're trying to sell a product, that you show it.

  • I like how he thinks he's discovered some new tecnology. I was doing that at the looping station at guitar center in 1987 when I was eleven.

  • i hate his jazz stuff so much! all his work in testament is my favourite music of all time. but the jazz... no alex... no.

  • alex skolnick and marty friedman= greatest guitarist in thrash metal history

  • @henrydarr8 I second that....James Murphy too.

  • @fleafarteasy I wouldnt call Death thrash metal, but James is a good guitar player and Death is one of my favorite bands, RIP Chuck

  • @henrydarr8 No I wouldnt call them that either but James kicked ass on Testaments "Low" album. Disincarnate too although, again Death Metal.

  • best metalplayer i ever heared. bay era rules!

  • Skolnick fuckin' rules !!!

  • @wisesatyr72

    Fuck you

  • @wisesatyr72 He also plays jazz...

  • @hehhee1000 Yes I was joking..

  • what a badass !!

  • those strings are thick as hell!! :0

I use 9's on my ibby but find that theyre heavy enough to get good body resonance and tone + theres no struggling with bends and high action.

  • @jacksonabuser u should be using 11's because 9's are to light and once u get use to 11's it'll be easyer 11's have great sound may be awkward at first =D

  • ALEX IS SO AWESOME!!

  • never heard of this guy before but holy shit the way his brain works on jazz and metal. fucking awesome

  • @ducky1245159

    never heard of Testament?

  • @Failhaid if you like Tharsh metal go listen to there albums the olds ones r good but the new ones r awesome

  • @headbagger63

dude, i know who these guys are...they're actually one of my favourite bands

i just wanted to ask someone here, if he never heard of Testament : ) ...i know what Testament is all about^^

  • thx

  • It's so awesome seeing all these different musician showing off this awesome equipment. These guys are so inspiring.

  • i LOVE alex skolnick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • does anyone know how to play the rythm guitar of the metal part ?

  • @Skaterpro47 pm parts are on the low E and the chords are F5 and A5 i think

  • WOW came here to see the PX5D but forgot about that after I saw Alex play.

  • SKOLNIK IS THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS:

true thrash metal& warm splendid free jazz

  • alex skolnick you are more good than hammett.Testament with you are true trash metal. You also love jazz, you are a very very good guitarist.

  • it's not trash, it's thrash metal

  • he uses 13 gauge strings!!

  • Yes, but on a short-scale guitar (LP-style) and half step down. More or less, it's like a .11 set of strings on a Strat with standard tuning.

  • @virgult There may be some truth in that statement, but to be honest 13 gauge strings are still beastly, even if its a Eb les paul!

  • @guithero11 I can't imagine playing 13 gauge.... my fingers will puke

  • @ferociouspokemachine yea bro its crazy

  • @ferociouspokemachine imagine bending

  • that is the worse guitar tone in this video. the weird one. how can you fuck a girl with that in the background?

  • LOLLLL!

  • Man that thing sounds like SHIT.

  • what's the song at the beginning??

  • megadeth tune? :/

  • Alex on Bass Oo lol

  • fantastic tool wow

  • Oh my fucking god! Alex scares the shit out of me... Outstanding guitarplayer

  • Goodness, look at those strings! I don't see how he can shred so easy on .13's!

  • you get used to it eventually. cant use a floyd rose but you get super awesome tone

  • its no as hard as it sounds. I use 13s and you get much better tone than with liter strings

  • 19 years of playing jazz.

  • Looks REAL painful to do bends on those .013s! His fingertips must be like shoe leather by now!

  • something like paul gilbert stuff in the metal part , just my feeling

  • Did he get remarried?

  • 4 years ago I took voice lessons from a women here in NYC after seeing her ad at Manny's. I went each week for about a month. Then she asked if I had recorded anything, and I played her a demo. She said to me I gotta play this for my husband- so she called him - I didn't know she was married. He said he liked it too. I asked him if he plays also, he said yeah.I didn't know him, but he was the nicest guy-and his wife said he was a great player. Of course, it was Alex Skolnick.

  • Haha, no way, that's kickass.. Guess that's his now ex-wife.

  • Happy Birthday Alex Skolnick! 29 sept;)

  • Alex Skolnick is like the Alan Holdsworth of Metal.

    Awesome!

  • Alex Skolnick is absolutely my favourite metal guitarist. He's so versatile.

  • He is so badass.

No if, and, buts about it.

  • Thats a nice guitar! Alex has his shit together on guitar. Awesome!

  • ALEX BRUTAL!

  • Groso el loco!

  • cool so see ol Alex. had no idea he was back with Testament.

  • excelente, cuando vienen por Argentinal.

  • go ALEX GO ~~~ MORE ALEX ON THE LOVE PROJECT DVD COMING OUT IN THE NEXT FEW WEEKS!!! ;)

  • i got his pick and play with it xD

  • Megadeth's "reckoning day" riff...!!!

  • no its not

  • Kind like it, but's not.

Not even the same chord progression.

  • alex skonlick is a fuckin god tanks for posting

  • Oh nevermind I was thinking it was like a boomerang type device....

But yeah, it sounds solid state or digital to me with the bass too high...

  • What song in the beginning of the video? The Intro song?

  • I think he was using a solid state amp to be completely honest. I'd like to see you do better.

  • I had the oportunity to buy his Jazz trio's CD direclty from him after a concert in a small NYC club. He was real cool. Not to mention a kickass player.

  • I saw him with Testament, but before the show he was out running.... I didn't really get a good look at him until after he left though, so I didn't get to talk to him :(

  • Glad you enjoyed it. : ) And I agree the rhythm tone blew

  • Awesome, such a versitile player and a humble dude!

  • Good, ' cause I'm gonna, bitch

  • Hell yes, he has some great pivot licks going on, esp. at 1:58 and 2:34. Nice phrasing, he kicks fucking ass

  • that riff he plays kind has a Megadeth's "Reckoning Day" feel to it

  • SKOLNICK IS AWESOME!

  • oohhh alex el mejor guitarrista que existe ..

  • Such an underrated player...

  • and a very downearth guy....i meen, with the kind of sucess that he has,i know a lot of people that would start to act like morons

  • @Beebaboo NO WAY! I haven´t seen anybody badmouth him! It´s impossible lol

  • Someone forgot to tell him not to walk under the wet paint.
