WTF !? not only he can play metal, he can play jazz ! and JAZZ IS A FUCKING DIFFICULT GENRE, its so difficult ot feel it and befriends with the beat and fingering ! salute to alex !
@believer06 Paul Waggoner from Between the Buried and me does same with Dustie Waring (also from BTBAM) I use a set of twelves but I bend a lot so I can't get 13 with the wound G :P
@rallyivan1234 duh alex. listen to the new order, over the wall, and souls of black. alex's solos sound better, fit the songs better, and are WAY more technical and advanced. alex can sweep like crazy and shred like a madman. not to mention he can play almost any style. Jazz is HARD to play and alex can do it.
I've always been an Alex Skolnick fan but this machine doesn't sound all that good. I have to also add, he is most definetely under the influence of a controlled substance. I've seen it many times, been there many times, and dude is tuned in.
@jacksonabuser u should be using 11's because 9's are to light and once u get use to 11's it'll be easyer 11's have great sound may be awkward at first =D
4 years ago I took voice lessons from a women here in NYC after seeing her ad at Manny's. I went each week for about a month. Then she asked if I had recorded anything, and I played her a demo. She said to me I gotta play this for my husband- so she called him - I didn't know she was married. He said he liked it too. I asked him if he plays also, he said yeah.I didn't know him, but he was the nicest guy-and his wife said he was a great player. Of course, it was Alex Skolnick.
I had the oportunity to buy his Jazz trio's CD direclty from him after a concert in a small NYC club. He was real cool. Not to mention a kickass player.
I saw him with Testament, but before the show he was out running.... I didn't really get a good look at him until after he left though, so I didn't get to talk to him :(
His house is awesome, just cuz he lives there

he uses 13 gauge strings!!
guithero11 2 years ago 2
Yes, but on a short-scale guitar (LP-style) and half step down. More or less, it's like a .11 set of strings on a Strat with standard tuning.
virgult 1 year ago
@virgult There may be some truth in that statement, but to be honest 13 gauge strings are still beastly, even if its a Eb les paul!
