Unfortunately (for me, I guess), Steve Goodman has not recorded this song for distribution. I wish he would, especially since my father, Moe Jaffe, was the lyricist; Dwight Latham was the composer.
@Jontongweir You are stupid. Steve Goodman is a legend. If you don't like him, fine. But take your comments elsewhere. BTW, Steve Goodman is dead. Show him a bit of respect.
@Jontongweir eat &%$# and die naked you ignorant piece of pond scum. Ruined is a subjective opinion your free to hold and share or as Goodman says in a love song I think is outstanding, "You're the girl I love" SING IT FROM THE OCEAN, but watch your statements about the man that has contributed positive things to world who has already passed away or hunt you down and spit in your face fully prepared for anything you opt to do about it.
I have heard many versions of this song, but have not heard Steve Goodman's version until finding it here.
The first time i heard "I'm My Own Grandpa" was from playing a Grand Ole Opry commemorative album that was sold to make $ for restorations. The album included a small piece of the original blue Martha White Flour stage backdrop.
The album attributed this song to Oscar and Lonzo who performed it at the Opry.
Thanks alot,Janice E. Laney, for selling all my albums!!!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
Originally recorded by Lonzo & Oscar in 1947. That version has been posted and can be found with a search, but personally I like Steve's version better.
hardly surprising that Steve recorded this... after touring with Jethro Burns... (of Homer and Jethro fame)... Homer and Jethro had a pretty big hit with this song... I don't know who wrote it, but there you are...
I like this version, thanx for putting it on the tube.

I can almost follow this version. I didn't have a chance with the version on the radio a long time ago. Love Steve's version. Thank you for posting.

@UP58 Unfortunately, Mr Goodman passed away in 1984. I don't think he's recording anymore. Except on Pearly Gates Records.

One of the great old songs from Grandpa Jones, though it originated in the 1940s. Very clever and enjoyable.
