@elchafa If you look at the live performance (lip synched to this track) under Baby Please Dont go Mp4 you can see it appears as though the bassist is at th 7 & 9 fret area & the guitarist is definiately playing first position E chords and licks, though you hear F. the Romantics "What I like about you' has a older version in E & also a sped up more dancable whatever re-release in F as its easier to do that, then re-record, or for 'Them' the unlikely option they all tuned up a half step to F
@guitargold77 I think the most reasonable assumption (I haven't seen the video you mention) is that their instruments are tuned differently than the regular E-A-D-G-B-e.
The band was called "Them" Van Morison was lead vocalist and harmonica, Billy Harrison lead guitar. They where from Belfast Northern Ireland, they split up and Van went solo, The greatest blues band EVER
@bracemachine09 No, jimmy page is playing the bass. He was just a kido, morrison gave him a couple of chances. Dont you listen that the bass has a guitar spirit ?
I remember walking the streets at night in Sacramento with my buddies, I was 14 years old and listining to this song on a small transistor radio. Good time the early and mid 1960's

@artistssoftpastels I like it, and i couldnt care less if you dont, I just listened to it 5 times in a row... and guess what im gonna listen to it again :D
Thanks for posting. For anyone who is interested, the edgy guitar part was done by a young Jimmy Page working as a session musician. Always loved this song.
smoke...pure fire...I would love to see one of today's bands attack in this style. A great rendition...my favorite of this particular song. Thanx for this superior post.
That is his right, but it's his attitude that lots of people don't like. In The Last Waltz , Van who is normally not charismatic did a pretty good job on stage with Caravan . I think it was someone else. So if Van wanted to he could probably get his record companies to put some of his earlier great stuff here. He doesn't care about us.. hey being a big star has it's price and I understand Van's aloofness but still condemn it. He is not a bad guy, he could just be nicer.
@11xzxzxz I watched an interview (search for Time Magazine Interviews: Van Morrison) where he kinda says he doesn't like the fame. He doesn't make music to be famous or for his fans. He does it for himself. In that sense, why should he be nicer to fans if he doesn't really care about them?
@elchafa Well you have a point. But I am not asking him to sign autographs or make nice to his fans. Just be a little more friendly. He seems to relish in his aloofness. If a famous person asked Van to do a request, Van wouldn't do it just because so he is not going out of his way for anyone. . maybe he is spiteful maybe he is true to himself or both.
@elchafa And frankly I am not really pissed off at him for not be open, and haven't thought about him much in years. Mainly I think his songs mostly suck now and he once was a great songwriter and I want to be entertained and music today sucks.. Well take care.
I was lukcy enough to see Van several times in Dublin and Cork. He always givena fantastic performance. He's been great a interacting with the audience particularly when performign with Brian Kennedy,a fellwo Belfast man, he kept jokign with him and having the craic! So not always cranky!
@11xzxzxz Gotta speak up for one VERY cool thing about Van. I'm an impressionist and sing several Van Morrison covers. All that his people requested was a copyright notice and a link to his official website for info, which I thought was more than fair. There are other artists, like Don Henley for example, that will totally torpedo covers on Youtube in a very heavy handed, decidedly "unfriendly" way. So despite Mr. Morrison's aloofness or candor about his feelings and his music, he is cool.
@JeffMcNeal Well that is good for you but not me. I am not into covers at all and one who would want them separated on another youtube site.. Oh yeah I'm such a bad person now - worse that Van ever was? Van was the first major artist that I realized was lacking many videos a couple years ago and that it seemed a crime .. if you want your favorite artists to get known, even for the sake of conversation or enlightenment, one doesn't want covers- 1 wants the real thing.
@11xzxzxz I have no quarrel with you. All I was trying to say is that there are aspects about Mr. Morrison that is very generous and very cool regarding his music. That is all.
Them was really good.. This is actually Them. I have no idea why so few videos. My unconfirmed suspicion is Van is just naturally a pretty bitter guy (Napoleonic complex perhaps?) and goes out of his way to piss people off. He probably doesn't give anything away free or he just wouldn't care what his fans think. He has written songs about his annoyance with fans who ask to much and he said he has explained it all ..BS I say. He never explains anything except that he doesn't want to explain.
The fuckers never had much Van Morrison videos. No Astral weeks, no Caravan, Gloria, Mystic Eyes (a great instrumental rave-up that I think is stil up on utube), Listen to the Lion, And it stoned me, and he wrote a song with Them that came close to a pedophilia theme song that was a good tune despite making me feel a little uncomfortable. Look, I doubt he's a pediophile .. its just one of those songs that's a little embarrassing to hear.
Well I can't check right now to be certain but this sounds exactly like Them's version to me.
