Daughtry didn't cover this to "one up" Lady Gaga, in his interview he clearly shows respect for the original (which she wrote) and says he covered it BECAUSE he liked the way it sounded melodically. Christ, why is everything a competition for people? Let art imitate art and stop fighting battles for people who never started them.

@AnimeCountDown I have to disagree. I don't really think that their songs can be compared straight up. Just because /you/ can't make sense of her songs does not mean that there isn't any meaning. Her songs are (for me) very artsy and metaphorical, but as with all metaphors not everyone can see them. (By the way, I am a fan of Gaga /and/ Daughtry, so I'm not just some Gaga fan who has no idea what the hell she's talking about.)

Well it's the original. While that doesn't always mean its the best, it certainly usually gives an artist a leg up over those trying to cover it. Personally, I prefer Chris's version because I prefer his overall style, but I gotta give mad props to Lady Gaga for coming out with the song in the first place.
