  • In evolutionary terms, NON CONFORMISTS DIE!

  • he lol look at that guys hair and we did this experiment in my sociology class bitches be conforming llike a motherfucker everywher lol

  • Me and my group of people stopped conforming. Now everyone else needs to as well.

  • @MrBastilleDay Made me laff :L

  • sad reflection. Stay strong people.

  • Way off topic I know, but an American guy wearing a Rangers football shirt?

  • everyone says that 911 was terrorists, so i agree that 911 was terrorists

  • Does anyone know when this specific experiment was conducted/recorded?

  • I was thinking exactly the same thing.

  • I love disc golf and fishing.

    Repair string instruments for living.

Smoke pot, playing in a band, and skate with my friends. I really can only see her spin clockwise, but she slows down sometimes .

  • follow the beat of your own drum ...even though when compared to others the beat is a little off.

  • these are the type of people that drive me up a wall in actual life. you can't get them to admit 2 plus 2 is 4 if there are a few people around saying its 5. IMO those are people one needs to stay away from or sooner or later they will fuck you over with lies.

  • And this is how Nazi Germany started...

  • @Apathyisthenewpissed This is how the Jewish owned Mass Media manipulate Americans to follow the corrupt Zionist agenda.

  • I think the guy in this video was over thinking it. The reason someone would go along with the rest of the group is for fear of looking stupid. If they're the only one seeing it differently, it's natural to think that you must be making some kind of a mistake.

  • Now you know how religion works.

  • Everyone conforms. There are people who mistakenly get credit for being non-conformists, but most of them are just like eachtother. The only reasons they're "being different" are because it makes them cool or because their friends are "being different" and they want to be like their friends.

  • @911FalseFlagTerror01 Ususally people just complain about conformity and try to be different because it makes them look cool anyway. Ironically, saying that conformity is a good thing makes you somewhat of a no-conformist.

  • Oh my god I am shocked.

I understood was it ment even if I did not hear the hole descripion!Every body trust yourselves!!!

  • Arthur R Cohen's book 'Attitude Change and Social Influence' (1964) has similar experiments on 'human behavior', 'experimental psychology' etc. This is partly about getting people - no doubt goyim - to accept things like bussing of whites to black schools etc. Material on Negroes, the Korean War (minus US atrocities) etc. Foreword by Leon Festinger & Philip Zimbardo. Note the Jewish influence. No wonder they think goyim are stupid.

  • how would they know that the subjects were ignorant of the Solomon Asch experiments?

  • This is how fashion trends occur. As an outsider, we can look at other cultures (whether geographically or chronologically) and think "How is that attractive?" At times, beehives, afros, spit curls, rat tails, mullets, undercuts, etc. were "cool" & many people had them, oblivious to how ridiculous it looked.

More extreme examples are neck rings, foot binding, tooth filing, piercings, etc.

The same goes for many other trends: clothes, slang, politics, religion, race & gender relations, music...

  • GROUPTHINK MIND CONTROL

MK ULTRA IS BEING PERPETRATED ON WORLDWIDE SCALE -- KILL YOUR TV

  • subjects who do not learn to lie, could more easily develop skitzophrenia in todays society...

  • in the book 1984 by George Orwell a similar scenario is outlined in the book, so i'm guessing that he just observed some people and drew his conclusions

  • I resist, not conform. Humans are very simple. Those who stand out from the crowd are always the most mentally powerful.

  • trust me, all my friends do!

  • they should try to do something else other than lines, like identifying animals

  • Ohhhh Wowwww...

Hearing about it on TheraminTrees' video about Conformity is one thing... but seeing their tortured expressions, their shaking heads... seeing their confusion and angst is very moving!

  • @ReligiousFiction

yea it's intense.. kill your own will as to not seem apart, fear of being alone in thought can cause someone to give up their own thoughts all together in order to adopt the comfortable conformity, crazy

  • I don't like to conform. but everyone else is conforming, therefore I will conform as well.

  • This video just proves to me why I love conforming and why I'm going to keep doing it

  • Does that guy have spaghetti in his hair? LOL!

  • Maybe this is why the us bombed Iraq!

  • DISCOVERED in the 21stC: The Underlying Law of Nature

The underlying law of nature may be the world's most useful, profitable and encouraging knowledge.

The top 3 General Characteristics of The underlying law of nature are:

#1. The Way of All Things

#2. The Basis of All Laws and Principles

#3. The Basis of All Health, Growth, Efficacy and Efficiency

    Google it–as a start.

The empirical process for identifying the underlying law of nature was discovered in 2008.

Soon we may all do so.

  • I have to be skeptical of anything this experiment purports to demonstrate. It seems more likely the subject is more confused about what the instructions are rather than perceiving a line to be longer or shorter than it actually is. Try this experiment again with the instructions clearly printed above the cards with the lines and compare the results to this experiment.

  • @DeimosSaturn

This one is a classic in social psychology (almost from the fifties) and has been remade and re-articulated dozens of times around the world.

  • This is interesting. I think this has to wanting to be part of an in-group and not wanting to be perceived as an out-group member. I think we all do it some degree or not, whether we like to admit it or not.

  • its interesting because it seems that the first person will say an answer and as the next person repeats it becomes more likely the rest will. of course if his were me i would say the right answer if i knew it. but i can undersand on how this can get people. when i was in elementary school we would put on shows and sing and if one kid changed what they were singing the rest of the kids would follow because we were only singing what everyone else was.

  • p.s. was i the first? i've been waiting myself for such an answer.

  • this was obviously used to invade iraq, bush got everyone to say WMD's and wala, invasion. too bad.

  • People are robots. Even the well educated, rebels, skeptics, high knowledge about psychology, individuals, high level of self awareness are probably robots.

  • I got all the answers wrong

  • i knew all the answers :D

  • Really makes you think twice about not trusting yourself.

  • Hence why the whole world is full of Satanic mass murdering brain dead idiots! Hail Satan! I mean Hail USA! None of that Asch conformity shit ever worked on me!

  • This is what you see every freakin' day in society!

Him who controlls the media controlls our lifes ...

  • People are people, and people do that... it's fascinating how people conform to others just to be accepted... how can you explain the fucking nazis?

  • They probably just got really stupid people that wouldn't know the right answer. Obviously people that conform are ignorant and or sellouts.

  • omg.....i cannot believe this

  • so is there a difference between the test in the past and now?

    seems like it...

  • People are not as individual as the believe this explains how people can be apart of an group they know is wrong...

  • We are not clones, we are individuals. We don't all think and act the same way. I hate it when people try to act as if this were the case to feel "comfortable".

  • People who conform are at the pinnacle of stupidity. Thumbs down this to prove I'm right.

  • Comment removed

  • sorry please ignore my last remark.

  • I wonder if elderly people would give in too.

I'am 55+ and I would sure feel the force to conform, but I might not do so.

  • i think this is a good question, it would definently be useful to understand what affects people's choices to conform and testing across different groups and backgrounds might give a clue.

Theres a bbc vid on youtube for the milgram experiment, and out of 90% who accepted authoriative instructions to be knowingly immoral, only a chap who had a perspective of history refused (but only near the end of the experiment while the others had gone all the way).

  • (sorry i meant 90% accepted immoral instructions, and the 10% who didn't included that chap).

  • sheep

  • haha your stupid.

of coarse you can say that know because you are the observer.

I am sure if everyone in those videos saw this they would say the same thing.

  • yes, but there are some situations where you would conform even if you knew you were right wouldn't you?

I mean we all do that under pressure, its natural.

  • Humans are but animals. People need to swallow their dignity.

  • I wonder if this is conformity, or does the individual, on hearing everyone else's response, consider that he may have understood the rules incorrectly, and changing his answer thusly?

  • No, because they clearly explain what they have to do.

  • that is a good point.

  • interesting

  • Why would subject six do that knowing that the answer is wrong?

    Peer pressure?

Is this how religion works too?

  • No, this is how atheism works. People repeat the same lies over and over until, to them, it becomes the truth.

  • You probably shouldn't bring religion onto the Internet. It never bodes well even if you are convinced you are right..

  • yes, that is what religion is

  • I have Asperger's, when a secondary school student, I underlined all the wrong information in a science book and every time my teacher read a wrong fact I put up my hand to correct him - he wrote the book.

I had no idea I might make myself unpopular by telling the truth, by contradicting people. They should do this exp. on autistic people.

  • Researchers of Devlopmetal Psycholgoy found that Adolescents are more likely to confirm, mainly Normative influence rather than Informational. That is because they still not mature enough, they still in the idetity seeking, so getting socail acceptance for them is part of the Identity formation.

  • dont conform...join the group of nonconformists united....yay!!!

  • wouldn't that be conforming into a nonconformist...

  • @bexsullie you can't conform to non conformists, they are all differant

  • @ClearFiend there is no such thing as non conformists. if there is a group called non conformists (which requires two people or more, to be called a "group") then they are conforming to the "non conformist" trend/lifestyle/choice

  • @MrJoshmadd yes there is.

you cannot confor to a non conformist lifestyle cos every non conformist is differant , there is no accepted "non conformist trend/lifestyle/choice" non conformist is just being outside of the group, the people outside the group don't have to share any triats whatsoever

  • @ClearFiend ok ill give you that one

  • @bexsullie wouldn't that be an oxymoron?

  • Small children aren't an exception. Murder is ok as far as war goes; my government and all of my classmates told me, so it must be true!

Children's blood on my hands. Their blood is on all of our hands. Who do you think is paying for the war through taxes in the end...

    You.

  • Learn spiritualism, no matter what religion or sect you belong to.

  • 2:18, that is what it looks like to see someone's will BREAK.

  • rangers fans are dumb:))

  • For anyone who wishes to know, this is a very nice replication of Mr. Asch's classic experiment on conformity (I won't re-explain the procedure). There are really two possible outcomes, Subject one displayed Normative social influence, he conformed to the answer simply not to stand out. Other subjects will possibly undergo Informational social influence where they actually believe the group is right and that they are perceiving the lines wrong or missunderstood the directions.

  • I know what he means. I doubt I would cave on this particular test, because it's just a silly line--who cares? And most of the time I couldn't care less what everyone else thinks. But then I know I've occasionally been in situations where appearance was important to me and I pretended to agree with everyone else just to avoid rocking the boat. Sometimes disagreeing just isn't worth the energy expenditure. Nobody is totally immune to this. It's part of being a homo sapien.

  • TheMathGuy,

so very true, and also at the expenditure of unneccesary energy it would be more wise to "choose ones' battles". the experiment lacks the full scope of resilience in truly moralistic concepts where one would be deciding against a larger group when perhaps a person's life is at stake (which would indeed paint a more definitive picture in whther humans fall into this conformity, based on prolonged exposure & resistance of)

  • well there was the kitty murder in newyork in the 1960's were about 19 people watched for 30mins as she was stabbed to death before even calling the cops

  • Is everyone else in these experiments subjects or just the non-conformists?

  • We are pushed to conformity through constant bombardment of obvious dishonest information about ourselves and life--and end up conforming to a worldview that empower the elitist amongst us

  • David Icke talks about this. He uses an analogy of sheep and a sheep dog that keeps them in line... eventually, the sheep dog is not an external person, but in our own heads.

  • i here ya people like us are rare and put down cause we don't comform i say fuck conformity

  • this experiment explains a lot about why people agree to the validity of the hiv test simply because most everyone else does, but the hiv test only identifies the presence of 2 proteins and not a virus.

  • But a virus is made up of only protiens, that's how it is recognized. We find it by looking for the specific protien that makes it up. Find a biology book or study viruses and look how they reproduce, that will explain it.

  • gnastygnome, yes, proteins and glycoproteins, i am also aware of their molecular values, but the hiv test does in no way shape or form solely identify the 11 proteins that comprise hiv, and for that reason the test is fraudulent. not to mention that flu shots will cause one to have a false positive on the hiv test according to a 2006 New England Journal of Medicine report, with the western blot 'definitive' test. please pray for all those who have been misdiagnosed with hiv and AIDS.

  • who is the subject here?

  • It was my understanding that everyone in the room was a real subject except the first two.

  • Maybe its compliance. Maybe its failure to resist an authority/majority, fear of being mocked (odd one out, blind, stupid)-avoidance of negative consequences. Also, humans are funny animals. If someone you can connect with yawns, you will normally yawn as well. Are you complying though ? I think this baser instinct is a main motivator in this experiment, leading to an apparent temporary acceptance of a new norm (line length) they know is wrong/invalid. The reason for this is not pure conformity.

  • Tell me: do you think that the phenomenon can correspond to "normally rational" people doing things that they would, on reflection, consider wrong?

Also, "failure to resist an authority/majority, fear of being mocked (odd one out, blind, stupid)-avoidance of negative consequences", these are potential causes/excuses, but that doesn't give us a new behavior or action that's not "conformity".

Conformity is a behavior. Conformism is a belief.

And this is a terrible-looking video.

  • I haven't even begun to dissect the bullshitness of the word "conformity" in this context yet. What kind of conformity are we talking about ? Idealogical, brainwashing, subliminal, peer pressure ? Whats the source of it ? Will it lead to anti-conformist behaviour later on in order to compensate (thus nullifying any previous conformity; peace demonstrations after voting for bush for example) ? My explanations are as valid as this vid is crap infotainment.

  • No, its not in line at all. It's a different kind of conformity here. Not at all comparable to large-scale phenomenons such as the Third Reich or the current situation in the USA. This experiment is but a tiny fraction of the whole thing. And yes, their reasoning is important. Conformity implies some kind of permanance, because otherwise its mimicry amirite ? So.

  • No, youre assuming the reason. I just explained how its not "social influence". Youll need to come up with another argument.

  • no but they would have to argue, or they think they would be up to scrutiny (which theyre not interested in) if they gave an answer that's not in line. that's what i meant with getting over it faster. the conforming part of that is only secondary, its a mean to the end of: getting the fuck out of that room with as little hassle as possible.

  • if they were to write a report about this, im pretty damn sure they would mention how everyone was giving wrong answers. its not like the people are idiots. they didnt actually honestly conform, since they knew it was fucked up somehow. conforming is believing, they didnt believe, they played along. thats not conforming.

  • some gave the correct answers, which shows they categorically do not mind being the odd one out (oops, there goes the conformity theory). if it happens more often (being the only correct guy), the explanation for lying shifts away from conformity to self-doubt and/or thinking its all BS anyway and playing along. simple as fuck innit. people arent all sheeple. and this experiment tries to prove were all sheeple deep down inside if you only probe often enough. fuckin bullshit.

  • and doctor titanis or whatever his name was, did not decide to "find out". its not his experiment, hes only pulling it off and repeating it like some cheap street performer.

  • for example: whos to say they arent "conforming" only to get over with it faster, but if not pressured would answer otherwise.

  • there's more to the experiment than meets the eye, and mere "conformity" isn't the only answer or explanation. i think this experiment proves fuck all and that it's a piece of failed, obscure shit.

  • 2:05 , dude's going 'wtf??'

  • let's go

  • im comeing weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee bhh "death"

  • Very interesting video to see and really weird shall I say.

  • I will follow you! Anyone else wanna follow us?

  • people are sheep

  • shit. its sad to see!

  • wtf man

  • watch it a few more times... conformity is changing one self to adapt to the social environment around itself. so really it just means that we dress up and talk different and dis and respect simply for the fact of fitting in to a certain clique
