When i see shell i see your own user interface as well (your own interfacing api buttons, scroll boxes, tabs etc) Half of the controls are windows controls (clock and calender) but a + for someone on here who has finally got the point that its about simplicity. Not about coolness. If you make your own common dialog library it will be more professional. Otherwise its just another beginners program. Source: gui developer for mine, and other operating systems. And my windows shell.
@SporeCreator2009 I tried this once in the VB version of the shell seen here. I decided to add a transparent ListView control to add icons to the desktop, but I couldn't get it to work. However, desktop icon support in the new µShell is on the way, but it isn't in Git yet.
@RedpandamCorporation This shell also took me a couple of months. I'm in the process of porting it to C#/WPF and giving it a major revamp, and it's now known as µShell. I'm also setting up a GIT repository for it, so stay tuned!
This is wicked! I like it! Can't believe your age though..:O I'm seriously jealous. Wish I had had the opportunities to start learning how to program at your age!
Well, actually, I'm 14; I just had my birthday recently. It's a bit out of date and I'm planning to upload a new version with version Altershell (now known as µShell) version 2.3.1.
@alestorm100 I don't fully undestand, but I can say that you're awesome! Coding is fun, but it's a shame i lost interest in it. because i have not much idea of what to code. but i still play with scripts to ease my works... ;)
nice job i did stuff like this with vista all the time but now i have windows 7 and no longer want to mod the shell, it has and does everything i want it to. 5* it reminds me of linux
No. An OS is made up of (mainly) three parts: the kernel (which does all of the computation and is the core of an OS), the shell (the program which launches and manages apps, ie: Windows has the taskbar and Start menu), and, of course, the apps!!! Anyway, this Windows app replaces the regular default shell.
It uses about 21, 908 KB of memory with my current version. The one that you see here is a very early version that used a lot less RAM.
It's got a lot more features now. It's got good skinning support with multiple theme engines to choose from, improved applets, a basic file manager called FileReactor, more RibbonBar functionalities, many more variables for PowerConfig, the ability to choose which dialogs in Altershell to password protect, and lots more stuff.
I'm thinking about releasing this project's source code and make it a base framework for constructing simple shell replacements. That way, other people can develop their own shells easily from a prebuilt platform. I'm also trying to get it to accept mods/plugins, sort of like the Quake games.
I did the same thing for a schoolproject, how much ram does it use?mine used 19MB on startup and also had some fading effects. But where can you see which applications are running?
I say 3/10.

I was also 13-14 when I made my shell replacement - Redpandam RedOS. Took me a couple months. How long did this take?

In the meantime, it's closed source.
