We still have tons of '87 Wayne Lifeguards in my area, and I love those. There was a time when we had a bunch of '95 Lifeguards (Wayne Wheeled Vehicles) that were in near perfect condition, but I'm pretty sure that those were sold to another bus company.
Reminds me of what my old bus sounded like, my driver well all the drivers layed on those buses like that, was fortunate enough to have a bus that was only a few years old, 2000 bluebird tc-2000.
dude first of all get off of youtube hating second of all i know he didnt buy the bus he bought an instrument and third of all i can afford one bitch so get outta my business
dude seriously im not even trying to be sarcastic i like buses and i like this one i was actually giving him props u dumb bastard so leave me the hell alone
"Bus Driver" by SCS Software, and a German company is coming out with "Omnibus Simulator" sometime soon. Look at my favorites for a demo video of Omnibus, it looks so badass, I'm really excited about it.
By the way. Do Wayne still make school buses any more? Because all i see now is more & more International (AKA Genisis,AKA Ward, AKA AmTran) & Blue Bird Vision Series.
The B300R could be had as early as 1994 (was in test market from 1991-93), and could be had as an alternative to the AT545 and MT643.
The other WTEC transmissions available in 1994 for buses like this were the MD3060 (for engines up to 285 hp) and the MD3066 (up to 360 hp) and they replaced the mid-range/heavy-duty crossover MT647/648 (descendants of MT644) and MT654CR transmissions.
@AllAmericanFE - Yeah the Allison World series transmissions came out in mid 1992, but this one is not the World series with that transmission selector. I believe this one is the Allison AT or MT series transmission.
I own a 1988 Wayne Lifestar with a 3208. It is a Mighty bus. The biggest one ever made. 84 passenger. Watch her trip getting out at 7:45. Ha Ha Ha my foot gets stuck too.
I don't know much about school busses but I do know that you need to be 21 to use it as a school bus. But if you want it for Personal use... You only need to be old enough for a CDL... which in most cases is 18.
you have to be old enough for a CDL with airbrakes... which in most states is 18, but its only a limited license meaning you can only operate air-equipped vehicles in that state. once you turn 21, you can drive airbrakes anywhere
a smaller bus with hydro brakes will only require a minimal CDL, and if the bus is under a certain weight limit you can drive it with a regular driver's license in most states
all assuming it has been registered as something other than a school bus
Nice Ian! Youve got that driving thing down! My mom hit 4 parked cars this year with her truck backing up and trying to park. Imagine her trying to park that thing O_O
I wanted to know. Did you buy this bus???? Also, NEVER buy a DT-466 coupled with a AT-545. I've heard from several people that the DT-466 eats 545s for breakfast.
Unless that DT-466 has a torque rating of less than 475 lbf-ft. Allison Transmission official specs state the AT-545 handles up to 445 lbf-ft of torque.
The more I listen to it, the more it reminds me of our TC/2000 FE's with Cummins diesels. I also realized now that there is an International symbol on the engine bay. Anyway, thanks a bunch for taking the video. I never realized how nice the DT466 sounded
Well since I am going to have the bus titled as an RV I did not need a CDL or age requirement. If you are going to drive for a school district generally the age is 18 or 21 and you must have a CDL
I thought if the vehicle is designed to carry more than 16 passengers including the driver you needed at least a Class B or C. But still your lucky, I've always wanted to drive a bus since i was little, by the way did you go to Myers Equipment Corp. for your bus?
Wow, you know.. I thought the idle sounded like it, but I wasnt too sure. It certainly sounds like it has some Cummins in it. Especially when you pull out of the lot.

I love the DT466, the DT360 was my favorite though. I don't like the MT-643 auto. It doesn't make that nice whinny noise that the AT-545 made. :)

SSC20091 2 years ago
is it made by maxxforce because my 2007 ic ce300 has a DT 466 maxxforce engine and it sounds much different than this one
zusca159 2 years ago
MaxxForce does not make anything
International Truck and Engine Corp. made the DT466 which is the old mechanical version of the MaxxForce DT. The new MaxxForce is mostly electronic.
There is no such thing as a DT466 MaxxForce engine. There's a chance that your 2007 CE does not have a DT466, it probably has a MaxxForce DT.
ICDave 2 years ago
Is that like the 444idi engine but a development of it?
tpvalley 2 years ago
I dont know what you're asking.
The bus shown has a DT466 Engine. The newer, electronic version is called the MaxxForce DT.
ICDave 2 years ago
is the engine a development of the international 444idi v8 diesel sometimes used in buses and pickups etc?

no, wayne corp folded in 1992, and wayne wheeled vehicles(the successor to wayne corp) was only around from 1993 to 1995.

Nice sounding engine. Great shifts. Is it an Allison B-World Transmission ?
Dkels219 2 years ago 4
This transmission is a MT643. This bus is too old for an electronic transmission like the world series I think.

Okay now i see. LOL! I have to remind myself that this is 2009 & not 1992. Thanks for correcting that for me :-)
