God created music and it can be used for his good. If anything can be turned around to bring glory to God, I say use it. I can't stand that whole "secular" term!
What is secular music? If the name of Jesus Christ has to be in the song then Amazing Grace would be secular music! It implies him but his name is not mentioned! We discussed this topic at the most amazing church in the world! This would be Newspring!
Who says Christian songs has to include Jesus Christ. Your reasoning would imply that How Great is Our God is a secular song. Amazing Grace talks about God's saving grace and how the writer's life was changed. By the way Amazing Grace does includes "God" and "Lord."
You just have to look at the intent of a song, why was it written and and to who. If I was standing before God and singing a song to Him, I couldnt imagine Him being honored with this song. It brings Him no glory.
It doesnt speak of His greatness. It doesnt tell how people feel about Him and what He's done in their life. As for ministering this song to the congregation, it doesnt encourage them. It doesnt say, as an example, you may be going through this but things will get better, a song ex. Praise you in this Storm Casting Crowns. Everything by Lifehouse some people relate it to God while others relate it to someone they love and Lifehouse said in an interview "propose while we sing it"
There are so many Christian songs that can be used to go with any sermon that is preached so why use a secular song? If the Christian songs aren't good enough for your message then write a new one. God is holy and righteous. Why would you bring the things of this world into God's temple? Romans 12: 2 do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. How can one grow spiritually when still holding onto the ungodly things they had before they were saved.
deranderd it had to do with the message. Just because you do not say Jesus name in every song does not mean you are not praising him. Please open your mind,
Oh...I am a member of this church, and from time to time, we will sing a secular song to prove a point, and she sang LOVE STORY when we were doing a series on love and relationships. Hope this helps!
nothing against the girl (she can sing very well) and nothing against secular music, but i guess what i'm saying is that there's a time and place for singing those songs--and church isn't that time or place.
Music was created as worship unto God. If the music is not WORSHIPING Jesus then technicaly its not "Christian".
