With a minimum time of 35 seconds, the contestant should still be able to win every time if they practiced 30 minutes of strategy. I would go down the columns. Pick 1 4 7 10 and REMEMBER THEM. Don't try to remember any others until you have exposed the remaining 11 tiles and matched them with the 4 you remembered. At that point there are 7 or 8 tiles left, then just remember 3 and do the same thing. Time is taken up by trying to think. Use brute force instead with just the FEW you remembered.

Instead of 15 selections, and getting the one car without a match, they should have 16 selections so the contestant could potentially have any of the 8 cars instead of the one without a match.

Actually, this version's title was a misnomer, because it was the Downs-Clayton version that was truly the "classic Concentration." If anything, the Trebek years could be called "Concentration Revisited."

I even distinctly recall, as a kid, seeing Art James substitute host for Downs for a period. Also, in our family home we had two or three home versions of the game, which were produced by Milton Bradley, a company that, like Parker Brothers, is now owned by Hasbro, sadly exists only as a line name & not an actual company anymore.

I think the reason they called it "classic" is because a 1985 pilot for a revival had some drastic, really stupid changes involved. This was the return, in Goodson's eyes, to the "classic" show.

I'm guessing that Mark was overly excited throughout the show, and it eventually annoyed Trebek. Since this footage was all that Joe Madigan provided from this episode, I don't know.

Now that you mention it, Mark is the only one I remember actually running up to his new car, after he won it. Notice how he reaches back to the end of the rail, as he climbs the stairs... I'm guessing the car key was hanging on the end of it?

Now that I looked closer, a cord did get hung up on the rail, and that's definitely an obsolete wireless mic he's holding, when he's up there doing his "excessive celebration." We could hear his loud hoots and hollers even without the mic attached.

I'm guessing this was from 1990 or 1991, because they didn't always display the contestant's grand total on screen.

Well...NBC actually owns the rights to the Concentration format and has since the 50s. This was originally a Barry-Enright show but after the scandals NBC got the rights. G-T has produced two editions but NBC has ownership of the show.

Right, I have read this also, that NBC owns it. I think I even read somewhere that Hugh Downs himself bought the rights to the original "Concentration" and owned it ahile, to save it after Barry-Enright encountered difficulties after the quiz show affair.
