ah yes, I graduated H.S. in 1979 and it was a great decade for music!!! The 80's weren't that bad either. But Cheap Trick, Tom Petty, etc. etc. all great, great stuff. Ha ha - even Foghat!
@wisers001: I bet they ALL got laid massively on the Budokan tour. Devo did on their first Japan tour (check out their talking about it on the Devo in the Land of the Rising Sun DVD)
One of those few songs that became so popular live that it was never recorded in the studio...it's one of those songs that needs the audience feedback for the proper energy and why so many live performances are totally worth it.
@schallenbergerj - I guess I never looked hard enough...especially after being told (wrongly) that there wasn't a studio version. The song kinda needs the audience feedback for it to feel right, though.
Whatever happened to the days of no autotune, guitar solos instead of chugga-chugga breakdowns, and no image needed to be a star, I wish i was alive in the 70's :(
@LetsDanceOnOurGraves To put things into perspective, every era has it's share of vacuous music. There does seem to be more now as anyone has access to sharing their "art". That being said, Rick Nielsen is known more for guitar fills than full on solos. And MANY artist took/take their live shows into the studio and overdub new vocal and instrument tracks to make them sound better for release. Also, having an authentic image is not a bad thing. Look at Bun E. and Rick with his six neck guitar.!
@Gharization he's to the right of robin. he barely comes out, but you can see him clearly 3:25-3:30 unless you didn't listen to the whole song. hahaha
@mOBSCENEm I was there in the seventies and I still am a huge fan. People today have no clue how good music was back then, how friendly the bands were, how affordable concerts were. I am not surprised so many young people today still prefer these old tunes to what they call music today. Glad you like this.
@chevychevelle396 yes.apparantly with the mainstream and all these modern musicians have this rule to be as demeaning to women as possible.its horrible, and its crazy how its the women who make it so popular.
Great song! Rick Nielson plays that guitar so naturally I bet he could play it in his sleep. I would like to have a guitar like his. It plays so nice! This song reminds me of my newlywed days. Now all of our kids are grown. This is an oldie. So are my wife and I. Rock out in grey hair. We love it!
Vevo shows a Kanye west add while showing cheap trick. What the fook has this world come to??? Kanye can shine my shoes.Oops!!! I should take that back as it sounds racist but im only referring to the talent. With that being said git your shine box you no talent hack.
@ThePolyweave i'm not a fan of Kanye, but i wouldn't say he has not talent, he sure has a talent for making himself look like an ass (swift incident). no, but seriously he has some talent for lyric writing and other things... as i said i'm not a fan, so i don't know much about him, but he does have some talent.... So tell me what's your talent?
@mctasticbitches You're hilarious! SOUNDS a little like lip syncing?! You cant HEAR lip syncing, they arent singing anything if they are lip syncing!!!
i saw Cheap Trick and Squeeze at the Mann Center yesterday, the 16th of july. they were really, really good. Squeeze was good but i kinda liked Cheap Trick better, but then again Squeeze played more of their hits than Cheap Trick did.... but over all bravo!
fantastic; would have been better with Zander & Nielsen relaxing a bit, playing it out a few more minutes, dueling on guitars, etc. but their fame was so fucking fast & huge, as were their subsequent tours; Cheap Trick was/is truly a great band, and so undervalued in the way America scores these things, I think. Glad I saw them many times; they ROCK live! NO fucking lip-sync or instrument-sync here; these guys were true artists. "alternative" with a few exceptions, means "flawed."
What an awesome song - to dance the night away!!
