  • S-M-R-T !!

  • HOW DID I GET HERE FROM CHARLIEISSOCOOLLIKE?

  • Not so secret anymore...

  • I find cutting it in half, then smacking it hard with a large metal spoon on the back works just as well.

  • take a big spoon or stick then hit the back of the Pomegranate, the seeds will rain into the plate.. trust me i always do it

  • you can also hit the pomegranate with a big spoon and all seeds are gonna drop!

  • Cypress Hill reference @ 1:04 ...nice

  • Comment removed

  • fruit with beer? psh sissy.

  • Omg I am going to buy a pomagranet just for this soo cool @;--

  • AHH THANK YOU SO MUCH !

  • Look at this : 1iHbSzM63Hs

  • "All that membrane...that stuff makes me insane..." Subtle Cypress Hill reference...

  • Bear Paws !

  • doesn't the taste get lost if the seeds are full of water?

  • @Rollysnop only if the seeds pop. imagine puttin a grape underwater :)

  • this is a fail

  • He only cut the pomegranate once? He still has much to learn if he wishes to become a true Fruit Ninja...

  • That is stupid, just cut it in half and bash the livng shit out the shell with something blunt, it's not messy and you dont lose that much juice as in this "secret technique".

  • @HaNk1e92 You'll only lose juice if you break the kernels

  • for pomegranate fast and clean watch?v=ncVP0uPBSgI

  • Sproolinski has a better vid. Your way sux. Choke on dicks and die faggot

  • @MrCoreyp08 whoa chill out you dumb kunt

  • Just because you thought of it doesnt mean you invented it lol >_> I thought of it two days ago and scoured the web for more ways, but it seems it was the easiest way everyone thought of. Its obvious the membrane floats and the juice filled seeds sinks. Also the messy juice spray can be reduced underwater with the added effect of less friction and a tiny water membrance protecting the seeds from breaking easily.

  • Can you eat the pomegranate flesh?

  • @HotSausageStealer try etaing it and say what it tasted like

  • can't believe i had to watch an ad before this clip

  • this would have to be done with a firm pomegranate

i seriously have sat for 2 hours picking out the seeds from just one

  • I just eat it with the membrane and let my mouth sort it out, then you can just spit the membrane out. Just like grape, but more skills is needed :-P

  • but wont the nutrients in the pomegranate run away in the water???

  • @irin42 I agree with you 101%.

Actually, you can just tap the skin of the fruit and they will drop off as easily.

  • @irin42 No.

  • @YungusCH yes they will.

  • @djteac sorry but no vitamins or minerals pass to water when you dip them into.. like wise when you cut salad with a knife the nutrients don't go away(unlike common perception).. even the idea of it is ridiculous..

  • this video is clearly 2 minutes long, return my money at once

  • isnt a big part of the juices lost in the water?

  • @lopasas Just don't leave them in the water long.

  • @lopasas no juice will be lost as the juice is n kernels and no kernels are burst opened n the process ... nice and simple method

  • Tried this, it works brilliantly!

  • Looks messy to me.

  • I wish I liked pomegranates! It's one of the only fruits I've had that I don't like.

  • That really works! I tried it was easier than hitting it on back

  • a bowl, chef john! a bowl! everyone knows you serve pomegranate in a bowl!

  • ngon the

  • Will try tonight thank you :)

  • Its easier to just cut the fruit in half the bang the outside on it with a spoon and everything will just fall out without the membrane ;)

  • Hahaha he said I invented this technique , but I cannot prove it hahahaha LMFAO.

  • i love love chef john

  • I heart this technique!!!

  • Sweet!

  • I love foodwishes -3

  • omg just gotta break the "sixhoundredsixtysix" comments!

  • so wrong you destroy all flaovers you pull him open in half en then smash with a big spoon on his but the appels fall out so we do it in europe

  • Comment removed

  • Love it .. My 7yr old Granddaughter did this... She loves pomegranates but we both hated them mess.. Thanks

  • just tried this on christmas but instead of cutting all the way through i scored the fruit on each of the four sides only barely cutting through the rind. the underwater trick is the best. thanks alot.

  • you lose sooo much juice by cutting right through it .. you just gotta cut open the top & bottom, then you see the little sections, cut slightly along where they're separated and THEN put it into a bowl of water..

  • wow that is so awsome

  • awesome:DDDD

it's so yummy with cheesecake <3

  • Perfect! This is the BEST video out there for correctly preparing pomegranates to be eaten! Thank you so much!!!! Happy Holidays to you too!!!

  • This is so much mess and water wasted!

  • If it had bad spoiled parts inside, you're scrood.

  • yummy

  • I just got one and totally did your way along with scoring the sides

  • this is too hard i think i'll stick to eating cup noodles

  • @1992420256152118 how the hell do you remember your username?

  • I'm just seriously amazed.

  • :o thank you so much!

  • You loose some of the precious juice in the water – not a good way to do it I think.

  • @MrROTD You eat the seeds stupid.

  • @BirdNerdCentral hw knew that idiot, it was a joke... stupid....

  • seedless pomegranates, that's what I'm talkin bout

  • cool

  • I agree with sgrvox i agree with you I always do the way you said we don't lose any juice and it is not massy as some people thinks.

  • iactually like beinqq messy w' it xD

But this is a qood idea too :)

  • Excellent video my friend. I just added this to my favorite How-To's playlist.

  • beer?

  • I just love doing it natural messy

  • actually if you just cut it in half and then pat the back of it into a bowl you dont loose any juice, or seed, the water idea is not good!!!

  • This pretty much just made my life. I just used this method and had a bowl wicked fast that my one year old and I got to share. Woot! First mess-free pomegranate experience of my life. :D

  • That's amazing XD

  • You NEVER cut pomegranates in half. Always section it off to get 100% of the red delicious jewels inside.

  • I am glad I live in a town where we have a freaking pomegranate festival. Pomegranates are awesome.

  • add some salt on top of those. OMG. <3

  • @desig1rl I owe you one :)

  • Genius! Simple, efficient and mess free, I'm gonna try it right now with the two i have in the fridge!

  • Such a bad idea if you enjoy the juice

  • @fidobanna

This. There is so much juice in the pom that you'll lose it.,

  • made a huge mess the 1st time i ate 1. mom was pretty mad lol. now i know how to avoid that in the future =) thanks

  • Thank you! I love pomegranates and did not buy them for that very reason.

  • You have such a soothing, comforting voice :D Thanks for the trick!

  • Insane in the membrane.

  • What about all the hard white seeds in the middle of the kernals? Are you meant to spit them out. Not fun to chew.

  • ahh...finally my mom wont call me lazybones..u saved my life Sir !!

  • this is the wrong way to do it. you need to cut it on the ridges.

  • @jadeyjewel74 It's not a wrong way to do it, it's another way to do it.

  • @jadeyjewel74 I guess there's only one way to skin a cat... Looks like he managed just fine

  • @GladesPythonHunter what does that have to do with anything i said!?!?

  • Doh!

Sometimes (usually most) the simplest things are the best.

    Gr8 share!

    Happy Holidays

  • fuck! why didn't I think of that

  • omg you're a genius! Where were you yesterday! You would've saved me a shirt!

  • 1:02 nice joke XD

    insane in the membrane haha

  • @crapeldra aww I didnt catch that lol!!

  • @crapeldra INSANE IN THA BRAAAAAAAAAAAIN!!!!!!

  • i tried this..so much fun! the seed came out easy and all of them! thanks chef john, you genius!

  • because I'm also very talented in weaving (or so I'm told) I can eaily pick the seeds out with out mess...unless i wanna be lazy that is.

  • There will be blood LOL

  • @Pantonesara ikr

  • i swear i was just listening to techno

  • Lots of water going to waste & also requires more effort than just banging the top with a spoon which releases practically every seed(and all the precious juice) :)

  • Beautiful fruit!!! and Very delicious!

  • We eat Pomegranetes ALL the time WITHOUT the mess. This wastes the water unless you use the water. Which I bet you don't. Here's how we do it. We cut a circle at the top. Then, we slice the skins like we do oranges. This is the Art part. Slice just deep enough to cut the skin but not the seeds. Then, using the white sheath between packs of seeds, split the fruit into many small parts. Then, peel apart. Its EASY PEAZY. Don't waste resources, people. Thanks, anyways, Chef :)

  • @JannahWannabe Chef John's way is easier and yes water is being wasted away in every glass of water you drink

  • THANKYOU!!!! This will be so useful. D=

  • You cut a square at the top then break it open and you will have no blood it's my dads secret he picks fruit :3 please correct

    It

  • Youre doing it wrong.

  • Nice Cypress Hill reference.

  • but i've done this before...is there and EASIER way!???

  • i just did this :-) thanks for the tip it worked great!

  • Really helpfully . I always eat pomegranate . I love that. Thanks for sharing.

  • Very Clever

  • Comment removed

  • pomegranates are delicious!

  • @instantdry1 what do you want? a cookie?

  • lol insane in the membrane

  • Inuyashalover92 - the flavor will not be drained out as long as the seeds are intact. You lose flavor when the juice comes out of the seeds - so if the seeds are broken, yes, blaah, but if intact (as he's showing) - it's all good.

  • I like the fun and mess of picking out the pomegranate seeds. :)

  • i tried this! it worked(:

  • Yeah, but won't that drain all the flavor out of the kernel? Cuz I usually rise mine with water after I'm done peeling and it tastes all watery...

  • thanks!!

  • Okay so, you know how you see the crazy people on TV that are afraid of Muppets or peaches? I am terrified of Pomegranates. I can drink em, I can taste em but only if they are pulverized beyond recognition with a blender. IDK why but They creep me out so bad.

  • really, with beer??? do they go together? never thought they would i will try :D

  • boy youuuuuuuuu got hairy hands

  • haha...

    Insane in the membrane joke...

  • 62 people must have failed at this

  • wont it lose the taste though?

  • @MrKiNgTuTZZ Nope. :D

  • @MrKiNgTuTZZ actually the seed's flavor is locked within the seed so it doens't lose it's taste(:

  • yes pleaase now i can open it

But how in hell does i seed it ? !

  • And then you lose most of the taste of the the fruit....

  • theres a pomegranate tree in my neighborhood :D

  • @herp94 This has to be my favourite comment...HAHAHAHAHAHA!

  • @herp94 u r so lucky (;

  • Omg ive always been annoyed by the membranes and eating by taking the seeds out little by little! Youre a lifesaver!!! Thanks dor the tip!^^

  • Omg

  • Omg

  • cool

  • i have wanted to know how to do this almost all my LIFE! i always thought pomegranates were such a tease!

  • just hit it with a spoon

  • Hey chef John. Do you eat the little seeds in the pomegranete cernells?

  • omg....thanks for sharing the secret!

  • I tried eating this like an apple, it didn't work too well.

  • interesting....

  • This guy sounds like a Fucking boss

  • hahahaha your voice reminds me of seth rogan! so pleasant (: I wanna hear you laugh

  • *agrees with steven199912 and chloelizlotherio*

  • or cut it in half place it face down in your palm and bash it gently. This is coming from a chef, I have never used this ^ method in my kitchen.

  • its easier to cut it and hit it with a spoon on the beack

  • @steven199912 LOL

  • Another good way to do it, which I personally use in my restaurant, is to cut off the top part then through the whole thing in a blender. Now if you wanna just separate the seeds hit the Chop button and if you wanna make a pomegranates juice hit the Liquify button.... You all are welcome :)

  • I usually seed 3-4 and eat them like a bowl of cereal..sans milk of course

  • I like it i like it :)

  • your videos aare always fun and helpful ^.^b

  • Who was first? Chef John or Alton Brown?

  • Simply Brilliant!!!!

  • peel it like a orange! its so fun specially with little kids

  • wish would've watch this first screw it i'll just mine the the seeds out

  • No no!

  • AWESOMEEEEE I FOUND A WAYYY WOOOOOHOOOOOO NO MORE MESSS THANK THANK THANK YOU FOODWISHES

  • Just tap the pomegranate with the back of a spoon.

  • chef jooohn! this is the first time you have failed me D:

only1genious's method is the best. i love all of your other hilarious, awesome videos, but this is wrong

  • i made the "mistake" of trying it out of water, quite frankly the only juice spilled was from the seeds cut when I cut it in half. didn't break any more when removing them.

  • YOU TAKING THE JUICE OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OF SEEDS

  • can i seed a watermelon the same way. i like watermelons

  • Time to post the video of me doing this in 1972...

  • If this guy didn't sound so cocky, I might actually enjoy watching his videos.

  • @leoraac Oh come on, that's just his humour - he's not cocky!

  • 0:32 jigsaw is the secret narrator

  • easier way:

    1-take the pomegranate

    2-eat the fucking pomegranate.

  • @0o0Tyler0o0 I second that method.
