True that. The body panels are for aerodynamics and asthetics, not for crash protection. While they do offer SOME protection, it's very minimal no matter what they're made of.
Actually Saturn do very well in frontal and side crash tests. I was in a wreck with a Saturn SL2. NO one in my car was injured. That can't be said for the people in the Honda Civic though.
@TheLeeno Dude.. The only part of the car that is plastic is the doors and the bumpers. The rest is metal. And you can crash a 40 and still be okay. They are safe cars, I have a year 2002. And about the "slow shitty cars" part, they are slow and they aren't shitty. I've had mine for 108 thousand miles and had my first problem yesterday, which was just replacing the brake pads, which isn't really the cars fault. And not all of them are slow, I'm getting a v8 put in mine.
@gieco53 I've been in two different car accidents in Saturn vehicles, the first was a 1999 SL 4 door, second was a 93 SC1, both were great cars and saved my life, but they are not the safest cars (honda). Pretty much all saturns are slow, they were not built to be fast. Good luck putting a V8 in a saturn.... Why wouldnt you just buy a mustang/camaro or any other V8?

And the reason I'm doing it is because I've come across some extra money that I don't need and I'm going to use it to do something I'd think would be cool. The DOHC saturn only makes 125hp so barely over 100 at the wheels, my cav makes 30 more at the wheels stock. and im am lighter than the 4 door and not much heavier than the 2 door. No they are not. first of all civics and del sols are slow unless motor swapped or boosted. Second take your car to a track, dont street race. When you take it to a track you will realize how slow it really is. A saturn is underesimated yes, but not by that much, The best one could run with a good driver is a high 15, I run high 14's. my cavalier is nearly stock. Try it once then talk. I have been beaten by a saturn once. It ran a 14.5. it also used a 75 shot. lol

My 2000 sl2 with bosch platinum 4 prongs and fully synthetic oil pulls like crazy. I love the look on civics faces when there screaming and shifting twenty times and I go by them on the freeway with a automatic just enough of a growl from the cams.
I am actually planning on dropping a Turbo in my 96 SL2 to try and beat my friends stock Mustang GT. I just did a tranny swap, it already has the DOHC 1.9 in it.

my stock 96 sl2 murders alot of cars. Has yet to lose to any civics or integras. it surprises me aswell on what it beats.

hell yea i know how that guy feels like cause i had an auto staturn and i was beating V6 mustangs and gettin beat by GTs by 2-3 cars, but then again i had I/E/H on mine, but it feels good to win again cars u think would be u.

I have a 93 SL1 5 speed with the 85 hourse motor, it hasent won alot, but it keeps up with most that want to run it, or just gets it's doors blown off. This is also on a tired motor of 250K keep in mind too. I want to do just the DOHC swap just to feel the extra 40 horse power is like.

haha I totally know how you feal! I got a 96 SC2! I bought it just for a reg car to cruz in, and lol man I beet a good number of cars. AND IT'S AN AUTO!! lol XD I beat scions, hondas, a few lexus, celica's, and like a good number of other cars. lol surprising! Even in top speed runs. My friend is going to give me his wrx turbo....so I miiight be putting it on. Who knows?? lol!
