I hope that you continue with these videos. I have watched it more than once. I agree with you reason for the computer voice and I like it. So what it mispronounces things. For those who don't like it, don't watch.
I remember seeing Colecovision DK boxes back in the day. Very small quantities. You forgot to mention the expansion modual that was going to be a laserdisc player for Dragon's Lair but deemed too expensive and then they came out with that crappy Adam DL game instead.
Sorry if this is a silly question, but why is this video unlisted? It says 'to be continued' at the end and I'd really like to see the other parts if they exist, are they also unlisted?
@omegaxi I'm tired of getting the same comment over and over again regarding the computer voice. so, I've unlisted the clip to limit the access to it. I will decide later what I will do next regarding ColecoVision unreleased stuff, it will depend on my enthousiasm and free time.
@newcoleco Thank you for the response, I don't blame you for getting tired of the comments having read some of them. For whatever it's worth I think the synthesised voice is perfectly fine. Anyway it was a really interesting video, thanks for the upload ^_^
Question: You said, "This is a FAKE Coleco ADAM computer..." Daniel, how do you know that's fake? How do you know it wasn't a working prototype? Do you have a source? I am trying to get as much factual information as possible. Thanks.
Very cool man. Nicely done. I do like the computer voice too. I think you have to be a child of the 80's to appreciate this stuff.. ignore the haters! :P
Thanks again for sharing this stuff, it's epic and timeless!
I read recently that Coleco was nortorious for using artists renderings of computer graphics on the boxes of the games. Made the game appear more arcade like, on the box.
I like your video's but fuck man, Use a real voice. The microsoft sam type voice is just aweful. I Can't watch your videos like this, its just too annoying.
@DarkPlagueStudios - I'll not re-upload these videos with another voice. I've asked for help to do nice voice over but no one replied, so deal with the computer voices, they became part of my style, using computers to talk about computer stuff... even Steve Jobs did this long time ago during a MacWorld, remember?
@newcoleco Didn't ask you to reupload, but 10minutes of bad computer voice is painful. I know it sorta adds to the effect of classic game videos. Just because steve jobs did it, doesn't mean its good :).
@DarkPlagueStudios You're right, just because someone with a big name do something special that makes it good or more good than it is. And I've cut with other footage so it's not 10 minutes of computer generated voice... or you're just focussing on what you dislike in my video, which is sad because I like the MaximumRD review and teh news report of the CES.
@DarkPlagueStudios I don't know Daniel's reasons for the CONTINUED use of the digitized voice, but being that I had a cleft-palette and a speech problem, I would use a computer voice as well.
A few years ago on ebay, one person sold about 20 (maybe more) BOXED Donkey Kongs. I waited for the price to drop thinking he had a larger stash, oops he didn't and i never got one. I think they sold for between $40-$150 each.
@MrLangley59 : Is it really the only thing? If so, go over it and appreciate the video. And to tell you a secret, I'm a french canadian and in french it's "Coléco" which is pronounced "Co-lay-co". ;-)
I know, the majority of you prefer hearing "co-lee-co" rather than "co-lay-co". But I've an argument to defend the text-to-speech tool. First, coleco is not a real word; it's the first part of 3 words, and the second word is leather, which doesn't sound like "lee-ther". Second, coleco logo variation is using a little accent over the letter "e", and in french coleco is pronounced with this accent "co-lay-co". think about it. ;-)
The problem with your argument is that we have TV ads (archived here on YouTube) that say "Co-LEE-co" and one assumes that pronunciation was approved by the company itself.
Sure, the company did probably approved the pronunciation... they also approved the logo variation which looks like this : coléco, with an accent over the e... and that gives "co-lay-co".
Bashing on the way Coleco is pronounced in the video is pointless. Like I've said the majority of you prefer "co-lee-co" instead of "co-lay-co", but it seems that both ways are correct after all.
Hardly "bashing" dude! Jeez! :-) Your video is awesome! All I said was that the name is pronounced "Co-LEE-co" in all of the commercials. I don't think anyone would consider that "bashing." And where can I see that accented Coleco logo, btw???
Well, considering it was an American company, I guess it officially was/is "Co-LEE-co" then and any accent marks appearing in other countries were the product of those countries and not Maurice Greenberg and his staff. It's all good.
You seem to ignore that Coleco Industries did have an address in Canada too, in a town named Montréal, where about half of the people can speak french and english. Ignoring other countries in the history of Coleco Industries is ignoring part of Coleco's history.
I've been to Montreal. Lovely city. Not ignoring it, but the argument doesn't hold water. McDonald's has addresses in EVERY country on the planet, but it's still spelled and pronounced "McDonald's", right? :-) The same could be said for "Toys 'R Us" stores, for example. In Quebec, it's "Toys 'R Us" not "Nous Sommes des Jouets" (or words to that effect (thank you Babel Fish!)). Same goes for "Cirque du Soleil"... We don't say "Circus of the Sun" here in the States.
No. Different persons give different pronounciations for the same things. McDonald may sounds more like "McDo N'Ah!-ld", and the english way to say french words like "cirque du soleil" sounds english not french in every country.
The interesting fact about the Coleco logo is the existence of a variation, made by Coleco, but looks like "Coléco" because of the accent added over the "e". If you take time to search it, you'll find it.
@newcoleco But - the word "Coleco" was formed by the taking the first two letters of the three words that make up the company's original name, which was the "Connecticut Leather Company". So, unless they have léather in Canada, I think the accent mark is not supposed to be there. :-)
@timsteryt - I suppose you need proof that Coleco Industried did put the accent by themself. Well, if you look carefully, you'll find some pictures of the Coleco logo with the accent over the letter 'e' for systems like Coleco Telstar, it really depends how far you go into the investigation to find the logo variation.
I preordered a Colecovision way back when and was blown away by the graphics compared to the 2600 I owned. Games were spendy at $35 and Zaxxon at $69. Received Turbo with the steering wheel at X-Mas. I remember lots of games never made it to the light of day. Actually considered buying the Adam and glad I didn't.

I like the voice. Mac Text to Speech? Might try the female, Victoria. Also spelling phonetically helps. "Koleeko" should come out pronounced correctly, yes? Anyway, nit picks. Great work, and makes me wish I still had all my old Electronic Games magazine collection. Had a stack of two years worth in my closet as a kid, and I remember those ads, especially the Dracula screenshot. Isometric! Amazing!
When I look at the pictures I've of the Super Game module, it looks like this thing should exists.
We can hear in this short clip about CES'83 : "Apparently the real hit of the industry has been the personal computer business." So, the market back then was ready for the personal computers... but it didn't means that every personal computer will be a success.
I've a few pictures from another source that shows in more details the spinner on the Coleco controllers. It's exactly the same spinner as the one you can find on a SuperAction controller, but it was originally planned for the regular Coleco controller. In fact, the circuitboard inside the Coleco controllers shows the place where it should be between the stick and the numeric keypad. It's true. Coleco did speculate a lot on what is coming out soon.
Coleco Industries was not the only one who did announced new products and finally not marketing them. In fact, I did mention CBS Electronics which is one of the third party developers.
Also, ColecoVision didn't had the time to grow. And the developers had to deal with rom size optimization to cut price, arcade quality to fit with "arcade at home" vision, number of games to do, and low-price home computer era.
Hey newcoleco, keep up the great work.I love these documentary style videos.Damn that video game crash! It figures all the best games were scrapped do to crash.
Amazing video! I love how you constrast the releaased with the prototype. And I had no idea that "Swords & Serpents" or whatever was a non-playable bit of animation. I had only seen it in the pages of Electronic Games.
Thanks NewColeco, this video fills so many "holes" in my Coleco knowledge. I can't wait for what your future releases hold!
Exposing each module and controller with what the prototypes did look like is more historical information than real unreleased stuff, but it's something important to understand that they didn't make this in one shot, it did takes time, trial and errors.
No, you are not the only one who gets freaked out by the robotic voice. However, I do like using this voice rather than my own voice and I think it's cool to hear a computer talking about video games.
I hope that you continue with these videos. I have watched it more than once. I agree with you reason for the computer voice and I like it. So what it mispronounces things. For those who don't like it, don't watch.

Merci!

Exposing each module and controller with what the prototypes did look like is more historical information than real unreleased stuff, but it's something important to understand that they didn't make this in one shot, it did takes time, trial and errors.

This is cool...but am I the only one who gets freeeeeaked out by the robot voice videos on youtubez?

No, you are not the only one who gets freaked out by the robotic voice. However, I do like using this voice rather than my own voice and I think it's cool to hear a computer talking about video games.

I wish they had released some of those 3d looking games. Dracula looked interesting.

Many people still wish to see these unreleased games... like myself. It's why some fans are actually trying to reproduce these unreleased games.
There is a ColecoVision Dracula game project going pretty well, programmed by Dale Wick (youtube account hardhatpsp).
