The bitch about it is that I'm writing a paper questioning the historicity of Jesus, and being a good skeptic I'm trying to find a strong argument FOR his existence, not against. The only reason the idea even came to me is bc we all just assume the biblical description of Jesus is 100% fact, failing to realize that the one source most accept is, well, alotta bit biased. Chrestus is a greek word, translated to english as Christ, and the meaning is 'annointed one' which they considered all their pagan greek gods to be 'annointed' or Chrestus. But the historical reality of Yeshua's -(Jesus) existance cannot be denied. Some have tried to deny Kind David existed as well, and other Biblical figures many have been proved to exist through some artifact or another bearing their name and title.

All of this comes from Origen (the work by Celsus is lost) in his comprehensive refutation. Thallus is next, but I'll wait until Part IV for that. Tha fact that Celsus was aware of the story of Jesus is no proof of Jesus,only that Celsus was aware of his story.No writings of Celsus exist only references made by Origen in HIS writings & Origen,the church's first theologian,often quoted Josephus but never the 127 word 'Golden Paragraph' supposadly writen by Jo about Jesus.There is NO contemporaneous writings about Jesus, anywhere.The first 4 books of the NT were not writen by any desciple. I don't know if this is in Part 4 as I have not read it but Archaleogy confirms findings of Jesus and his mother Mary and Joseph. The Shroud of Turin has his DNA in it and he has no biological father, further proving he not only existed but he is Divine. May I know the researcher of this 4 series proving the existence of Christ through historical data. I wish to commend the said person for a good and well laid argument that hits the very heart of agnostics and skeptics plays their logic games. This is a good educational materials that should be a MUST SEE and studied well by Christian theologian before they set out on their field assignments. Great video series. As a student of history, I must say it is nice to see someone depict the events in an accurate matter, instead of manipulating them to try to prove a falsehood. It is also interesting to note that if we apply the same standards that atheists use to attempt to discredit Jesus, to other historical figures, we wouldn't be able to prove anyone before the 17th century existed.

Celsus lived some 150-200 years after the existence of the supposed Jesus, his works although a very good explanation of history like most early historians, men of letters and philosophers was by NO MEANs ACCURATE. Celsus naturally had an opposing view of Christianity and saw it as in direct conflict to his own beliefs. His writings in no way support the apparent existence of a man god deity named Jesus but reflect not only the mood of the day but also hint at opposing myths to the xtian one

your talking about people who lived some 80-200 years after the apparent Jesus, but getting back to Thallus. His work does not survive and is only mentioned some 110 years (roughly) after his death. Christians tend to link this with that to get this.

For example I know Jesus was a real person because Julius Africanus wrote about Thallus and all these other people wrote about jesus and they did not lie when they wrote about Jesus.There is no evidence, the only stuff they can draw on is hearsay
